This page is dedicated to the best chinchilla care possible in a light-hearted spirit. I’m a licensed and experienced pet therapist and animal communicator with a love of dank memes and flamboyant set design. My chinchillas are my family and we aim to show people chinchillas in a way they’ve never been seen before. We encourage enlightened discussion but remind people that this page needs to be a safe space as many of my human clients enjoy it and may be triggered by aggression.

Some of our chinfrendz may remember me talking about anti-nutrients such as oxalate. Oxalate is an anion which drains the body of nutrients and it's found in large quantities in grains.
THIS brilliant little seed, milk thistle seed, is a nutrient ENHANCER. That means it aids metabolics of nutrients in other foods. Some genius studies have been done on horses, showing the vitamin & mineral levels in their bloods when milk thistle seed is added... In much larger quantities than the seed contains itself.
The seeds are yummy, crunchy and provide tooth wear when fed whole. Go easy on them though- just a few per day- as they're also high in fat and protein. :)

This rather disappointing picture represents Mylo in a large tub of nom noms.
I've been concerned about dehydrating already dried herbs to make pellets for some time. I think it was a really positive improvement on shop bought pellets as the health issues we had vanished and we've had six astoundingly healthy kits on my recipe. However, from point of view of tooth wear and nutrition, serving the food as a forage mix is a far better idea.
I made the pellets to eliminate selective feeding.

Since we've had so many kits, I just can't continue with the grinding and pellet making- I keep finding myself cutting up little squares to go into the dehydrator at 12am and I'm exhausted.
I've told the chins they're getting a forage mix, to please eat it and help me out.
So far we've had a three enthusiastic youngsters jumping into the tub to eat it.

This is also something I can potentially sell, should I ever need to sell a kit- I can supply food to keep it healthy.
It's so important to keep pushing forwards with solutions to help chins live healthier lives. :)

WARNING: BROWN HERBS.
Guys- brown herbs are dead. They've been picked when they're dying and / or dried badly. They have little nutritional value.
On the RIGHT, you can see some HayBoxClub dandelion leaf and some Galen's Garden echinacea leaf. Both of these are very popular with my chinchillas. On the LEFT you can see some Pets @ Home plantain and dandelion. I would ask for my money back if P@H sent me this and throw it away, it's useless. My Grandma had a botany degree and I'm only just realising that other people DON'T have the knowledge I take for granted which she taught me as a child. HERBS NEED TO BE GREEN! Kthx.

I had a massive heart-to-heart with the chins last night. They are absolutely heartbroken people don't want chins any more, that so many breeders are saying the chin industry is collapsing. The chins want us to learn how to look after them, to love them and value them. I know we're all broke, ok? I get it- I'm working with a disability- but we can't give up on them, because the natural world is vanishing at an alarming rate. Both wild chins AND domestic chins must be provided for. 🖤

Yuki You 🤍 He passed away from bladder stones. I asked the vet if I could prevent it hapening in another chin with diet and she said no but to encourage them to drink more water by having bowls as well as bottles. She was wrong about the diet- most bladder stones are comprised of potassium, either potassium or calcium, so correct cal:ph ratio CAN prevent them- that's 2:1 cal:ph. I did take her advice and now have little bowls of water under each bottle, but I also addressed the diet issue.

Beelzebub: World's Happiest Chinchilla. First she breaks her arm raving on a Friday night and fixes it herself, then she gets herself pregnant, pushes them out & raises them like it's nothing. I'm not sure whether to laugh, call the Vatican for an exorcism or book myself into hospital for heart attack treatment. 😈😈😈

I don't talk much about my pet therapy work on this page, mainly because it's confidential but also because I work mostly with dogs & cats. But when Moh died so tragically, Lilu was shattered. It was a massive betrayal, she said she trusted me and I took her love. She wouldn't let me touch her, when I approached she ran away. She did nothing but glare at me from a distance for six weeks. Many of you will remember how tame and affectionate Lilu has always been with me... Her little hands curled around my finger here... I had to do something.
So we started doing a simple Subconscious Elimination of Pain Signals (STEPS) daily, as a group, allowing our consciousness to merge and find the best ways forwards as a group. We also did the 'Love & Fear' protocol as a group because I was waking up in the night, terrified. Waves of pure terror would wash over me at regular intervals. I thought they could probably feel it too.
So after about three weeks of daily treatments (I use a recording so I can relax with them) she's letting me scratch her again and has even given me a kiss. She's no longer glaring and will ask me for treatments when she feels bad. She's starting to forgive me and accept that I thought I was acting in their best interests.
I've also been able to successfully introduce Moh's son, Lilim, to the two new baby girls. The older girls were all in love with Moh and it's been incredibly sad to see them treating Lilim badly when he's gone through a horrendous procedure for them. Seeing him with the two 8 week olds, who are very excited to meet the big, handsome boy, was just such good medicine.
Therapy works, it's an absolute pleasure doing my job.

There's a story behind these pictures...
When Sweetie & Dusk were born, their mum's milk didn't come through straight away. This is often the case with chins- it can take 24hrs.
So I skated to the Co-Op and bought their own brand evap, which comes from Dutch cows (the Dutch banned glyphosate), plus some goat's milk, so I had options.
I've hand fed enough kits to know how patient I need to be to prevent the milk bubbling back through the nose and hurting them. I didn't force anything, I only fed them 0.01ml at a time. It was just a precaution, to make sure they didn't bite each other in frustration.
But they didn't like the milk. Mum's milk is yummy and my milk is bloody disgusting, no thank you very much.
The protests were hilarious and of course, I stopped offering it as soon as mum's milk was flowing better.
The hands- the little protesting "NO!" hands!!! One of the funniest things I've ever seen! 😂😂😂

I know, it looks rude. 😂😂😂
PETS AND SUMMER HEAT: this year I'm going to make it simple. Dogs: anything above 22ºC is a heatstroke risk. Chins: anything above 21ºC is a heatstroke risk and 20ºC is better.
My chinchillas start looking at me pleadingly as soon as it gets to 22ºC. THEY ARE CLEARLY UNCOMFORTABLE EVEN SITTING STILL.
I know there are people saying 25ºC, I've heard people saying 26ºC. As a professional animal communicator and therapist I cannot agree with this. 20ºC is best if you can, I'll gladly pay £1 p/d to keep my beasties cool. and if your A/C is eating more power than that then hit me up- there are better ones on the market now with more environmentally friendly eco refridgerant.
Kthx, as you were. 🙂

Our Story

Welcome to Little Fluffy Crowds Chinchillas! Services provided from this page range from custom and made-to-measure cage accessories to models-for-hire, animal communication & mediumship, and boarding. I studied animal care under Sheila Morgan, who is renowned for her internationally prized Royal Jordanian horses, I worked for her as a stud groom, part time for seven years. I have studied nutrition independently and have a wide-ranging and deep understanding of the importance of top quality food and water. I favour organic and wild crafted feed whenever possible, with supplements to top up vitamins & minerals lost through the drying process. I also use filtered water to cut out chlorine, fluoride and harmful synthetic hormones. I also worked in the Care Service and NHS for many years part-time so have a broad understanding of healthcare from a professional perspective. I specialise in animal healing, animal communication and mediumship. My clients are mainly involved in showing but I also work with rescues and animals recovering from surgery. Any sceptics would be astounded at the results- animals respond very well to healing and remote hypnosis- they are used to communicating in a non-verbal way and so take to me very naturally. I give healing to any new arrivals to optimise their ability to adapt to change. Animals with a wide range of issues have made remarkable progress under my care and been awarded prizes at the country’s most prestigious events. If you need a new bed or cage liner for your beloved furry then please see our ‘For Sale’ album in the ‘photos’ section. I recommend supplying dimensions for anything required to fit a certain space and can discuss your needs in depth via the messenger function on the page. Our chinchillas can be booked for modelling via www.petlondonmodels.co.uk
