Meet Bexley & Pixie 🐕

Bexley has been coming to see me since he was a pup and has never been a huge fan of the grooming process. It didn't take long for us to realise that he has a noise phobia and so anything loud like the clippers, dryer, shower etc really stress him out.

Instead of putting him through the whole groom, I've found that with plenty of encouragement and support he can handle the clippers and shower but the drying is a step too far. So we do his groom slightly differently to keep Bexley under-threshold; making these changes never gives the perfect finish but he is comfortable and happy. He feels much safer and comes running in to say hello ☺️ we all think he looks super cute 😍 !

Working with dogs (or any animal) is about so much more than just loving them. Of course, that's a vital part of the job 😂 but understanding their breed, temperament, character and reading their body language is top priority!

It's also important to remember that not every groom will turn out "Instagram perfect" and each dog must be treated as the individual they are. This means working with them and learning their limitations ❤️ kindness, patience and respect go a long way!

🐍 World Snake Day 🐍

Today is world snake day and whilst they're not as popular as fluffy animals there are over 600,000 kept as pets in the UK!

Sadly many are given up to rescue or abandoned due to lack of understanding, knowledge or care- several of our snakes have been rehomed from people who could no longer look after them.

They are some of the easiest animals to look after with the correct setup, are often misunderstood and are absolutely fascinating- we love our snakes 😁

Meet Rosie 🩷 who landed on her paws with her new Mum after a horrible start in life which has left her nervous and anxious......she visited me last week for a bath and tidy up and was an absolute superstar ⭐️ we took our time and by the end of the groom she was much more relaxed and interested 👏 Well Done Rosie!

Tortoise Towers has new residents 😍

Trixie and Tinkerbell came to us a few weeks ago and have been quarantined and introduced to Turbo 🐢 now living in the outdoor enclosure they are settling in very well......Turbo thinks he's Hugh Hefner 😒

Both torts came through the Tortoise Protection Rescue. Tinkerbell was sadly attacked by a fox in her previous home so has some shell damage and is missing her toes on her front legs but that doesn't stop her enjoying life 🌻

It's International Turtle Day 🐢 a day to celebrate all things Turtle!

This is Squirtle, a female musk turtle we've had for the past four years, she's estimated to be around 14 years old.......she lives in our purpose built Turtle pond which mimics her natural habitat.

Musk turtles are also known as Stinkpots and only grow to approx 5" in length. They can live to be between 30-50 years old!
If kept in tanks they should not be kept with other turtles but they do well in ponds, especially down here in the south west where we have warmer weather.

They live in shallow ponds and rivers in the wild and brumate through winter in the muddy depths. They eat many high-protein foods like fish, crickets and shrimp 🍤

Yesterday was International Chameleon Day!

Pascal joined our family after his previous owners needed to find him a new home as their child had grown bored of him......they are fantastic creatures but like all pets you must do your research!

Pascal is a Yemen/ Veiled Chameleon- they can reach up to 24" long including the tail and live in the forest areas of Yemen and Saudi Arabia. Do they change colour?

Yes! But not the extreme colour changes that Disney portrays 😂 Pascal will go blue spotty and black when he's cross and pale green and yellow when he's happy.

He is our only pet that we feed live food as he needs the opportunity to hunt and feed naturally- he eats locusts, morio worms and occasional crickets.

Sadly Chameleons don't live very long compared to other reptiles with a lifespan of up to 8 years for a male so making sure they live in the best environment possible is super important. Pascal will be getting his own upgrade soon to a bigger home so we'll keep you updated

Multi-cat households!

The best thing you can do is give plenty of space and hiding places. When you run out of space on the floor.....add space to the walls! This gives your cats a safe place to rest, scratch and play without the pressure of other cats right in their face 🐈😍
