Veterinary Care Over the Bank Holidays
Nobody wants to come to the vet over the bank holidays, but what happens if your pet is poorly or hurts themselves?
Are your veterinary team not at home enjoying their time off too?
All veterinary practices in the UK have a legal obligation to provide round-the-clock care for their patients.
While some practices do this themselves, such as having a vet on-call, most provide this 24-hour care by agreement with a designated Out of Hours veterinary clinic for while they are closed.

Regular routine blood screening can help to detect ‘hidden’ disease early.

🐾Screen for conditions such as liver disease, kidney disease and diabetes
🐾Help us to identify early signs of disease such as anaemia, electrolyte imbalances and protein loss

Well Pet Blood Screens are designed for pets with no outward signs of disease.
They are available in conjunction with routine vaccination, six month health check, or senior pet clinic attendance.
Members of the Healthy Pet Club receive a 20% discount on the cost of screening - for more information and the full list of benefits: vetcollection.co.uk/health-plans-and-products/healthy-pet-club/

Did you know that chocolate is poisonous to dogs and cats?
With Easter coming up, we’re creating awareness around chocolate toxicity in pets.
Accidents do happen and these are the signs to keep an eye out for if your pet has chocolate toxicity:
The poison itself takes between 4 and 24 hours to cause signs which include:
🍫Muscle stiffness
🍫Tremors
🍫Vomiting
🍫Heart arrhythmias and fitting.
If your pet has eaten chocolate, we would recommend giving us a call immediately for advice.

Most pets will develop a lump on or under the skin at some point in their life, and some pets may develop several. 🐾
It is impossible to know for certain what a lump is just by looking at it.
Many different types of tumour can look and feel identical, especially those that sit under the skin.
However, making sure you feel your pet every few months will help you to understand what is normal, so you can spot any lumps and bumps early on.
When checking your pet take things slow, and stop if they seem unduly concerned at any point Find out more about lumps and bumps here: https://bit.ly/4fFwV76

Good news, pets! Breakfast is coming early ⏰🐱🐶
The clocks spring forward this weekend, which means our furry friends get their breakfast an hour earlier (at least in their minds!) 🥓
While we might struggle with the lost hour of sleep, our pets will be thrilled with an unexpected early meal.
Just be mindful that some pets have sensitive routines, so a gradual adjustment can help. ❤️

Antibiotics in vet practice 🐾💊💉
Occasionally, antibiotics are used to prevent infection, where an infection is considered very likely, or where infection could be catastrophic (such as after surgeries like a hip replacement).
However, bacteria can develop a resistance to antibiotics. As pet owners, you can help protect from antibiotic-resistant infections by giving all medications as prescribed, including finishing the course, and returning unused or leftover medication to the clinic for safe disposal.
You can find out more about this here in our blog: vetcollection.co.uk/health/antibiotics-in-veterinary-practice
