Positive Equitation teaches a different way of training horses, using encouragement, easy stages and rewards to help you and your horse achieve your goals - and have fun in the process! I have a run of poles set up in the field at the moment ready to start Maja's strengthening exercises once the ground has dried out again, and in the meantime Pip has been having a play. <3 This is one of his favourite games, and he understands it completely, as you can see, happily trotting up the line and waiting at his target for his treat delivery to arrive. While we were playing Honey came over to join in. Honey has a bit of a thing about poles. She has learned to cope with walking over ground poles but as soon as any poles are raised off the ground they become Very Scary Indeed and should be approached with much Welsh-dragon-ness. We usually just work with ground poles or very-slightly-off-the-ground poles, but occasionally she decides she wants to join in with the scarier versions. Honey knows the drill with this exercise; go through the corridor of poles and touch the target at the end. By this point the two end poles were on the floor, so she entered the corridor there. She then, in a very dramatic Welsh-dragon style, proceeded to trip over the two poles (that were on the ground) leaving a long skid mark in the mud in the process, then very proudly went to touch the target at the end of the line, with a very definite attitude of 'Look, I did it, I'm a superstar too'. She earned herself a very big reward for being such a brave (and entertaining) pony. <3 <3 <3 If you'd like to have a go at this exercise (although possibly without the dramatics) but don't know where to start please get in touch - I offer online coaching worldwide. :-)
