🖤In Loving memory🖤

🤍Pets are a privilege to own, they enrich our lives in so many ways. Their unconditional love, their trust and devotion and their loyalty and characters give us so much. Whether they are with us only a short time, or for what feels like a lifetime the memories we make with our pets will be cherished forever.

🖤You may not think about it, but veterinary professionals often experience some emotional burdens from the loss of pets too. Many will look back and remember numerous patients, who they cared for deeply. They may also experience burden transfer. This emerges from a wide range of different veterinarian-client interactions that occur when that client is providing care for a sick pet.

🤍These include situations like the veterinary professional needing to preform euthanasia, or working with clients who are experiencing anticipatory grief.

🖤There is an emotional paradox in the veterinary world. One we haven't quite got the hang of yet. A paradox that entails the need for emotional involvement with our patients, but at the same time we need the ability to detach in order to survive emotionally.

🤍This job is tough. We laugh with you at those silly characters, and we cry with you when we lose a patient. Sometimes we think about your pets all night and can’t sleep. Sometimes we run over cases again and again. And often we think about pets who we have brought into this world, and pets we have allowed to pass peacefully too.

🖤So here is a post to remember all those, whose owners and veterinary professionals alike look back on and smile, remembering all the happy times, all the love and memories.

🤍In loving memory🤍

Socialisation isn't just about direct interaction with people, playing with other dogs etc. Particularly for the more sensitive pups watching the World from a distance is even more important.

Forcing a dog to ‘face their fears’ and taking away their control over their own movement is probably not a good idea as the risk of creating a negative learning experience becomes very high.

Luring a fearful dog with food can sometimes work out fine and can sometimes help a dog realize that an object is safe, but it can also create feelings of inner conflict and some dogs will suddenly startle. I would never advise anyone to lure a fearful dog into meeting other animals (including humans) as this can become very risky. Once the food has been eaten, the dog may freak out in being too close and suddenly react with defensive responses.

Offering space, time and social support is my preferred option. Having the freedom, time and space to decide for themselves whether or not to explore and allowing them to process information at their own pace can boost the self-confidence of a dog. Being there for your dog and offering social support can reduce stress and fearfulness. You can be your dog's safe space🥰

Excellent advice!

Excellent advice!

Reasons to Bag it and Bin it:
💩 Nobody wants p**p on their shoes💩
💩 Dog p**p can carry bacteria and parasites that can infect people💩
💩Dog p**p can spread illness to other dogs 💩
💩 Dog p**p can carry disease that cause illness in farm animals 💩
💩Dog p**p can damage the ecosystem as drugs used to prevent parasite infestations in dogs can also affect invertebrates in the soil 💩
💩 Leaving dog p**p reflects badly on all dog owners and is a major factor in dogs being banned from public places💩

Always carry p**p bags. Always take p**p home if there isn't a bin. And never hang it in a tree to collect on the way back... you will forget it!

Paws in Partnership

I take a holistic approach to dog training, trust is paramount to any relationship and this is the cornerstone of my teaching. Every dog, their human carers and their circumstances are individual and therefore all of my training is bespoke. I firmly believe that we learn more when we are relaxed and enjoying ourselves, so I make sure that lessons are fun for both dogs and humans.

My extensive and specialist experience means that I have something to offer everyone, from the first time dog owner to the experienced professional. My passion is real life training and helping others develop the deep connection that comes from true partnership with their dog.

At Paws in Partnership I offer a wide range of services including puppy visits and training packages, help with problem behaviours, general lifeskills, support for rescue dogs, training walks, countryside awareness and a variety of scentwork activities. I also offer bespoke workshop and holiday packages including the popular Paws in Partnership retreat weekends.
