We're so proud of what we, and all the other traders at Leah's Yard have achieved over the last month. From an empty shell to a fully fitted shop in less than a week, this space has allowed us to share our Sheffield grown flowers with so many of you!

Heads up, new opening times! Now we've had chance to settle in at our new shop, we're having a little switch up and have decided to change our opening days. Starting this week we'll be open from Friday to Tuesday. Same hours - 10am to 5pm weekdays and Saturday, and 11am to 4pm on Sundays. The new hours mean we can work more efficiently, bring you some new offerings and share our flowers with even more of you!
The dahlias are looking lovely in the sunshine today, freshly cut this morning and straight to the shop. We're loving the peachy, vintage tones at the mo, so we're hoping the dahlias carry on flowering for a bit even though the temperatures have dropped suddenly 🙈🫣

Our favourite day of the month, our Gather & Grow sessions! The work we do with people who are living with dementia is vital as it enables them to connect with nature, socialise in a supportive environment, and to take part in something meaningful. Nature is a powerful tool that can reduce stress and agitation, spark memories, and encourage creativity so it's important that people can access the natural world.

This month the gang tidied up the containers full of annuals that have been flowering over summer, and made flower arrangements in vases to take home. We're always happy to see everyone's personalities expressed through flowers 😍💐

These sessions are partly funded by the flowers that we grow and sell in our shop and on our website, so next time you think about sending a bouquet, remember you could be supporting your community at the same time!

We blinked and all of a sudden it's nearly the end of day 2 in our new shop! A massive thanks to everyone that's come to visit us already. There's still a few hours left if you'd like to come and get some flowers, we're here until 4pm then we're off for a very long sleep before it's time for round 3 tomorrow. Bank Holiday opening hours are 11am to 4pm 😁.

We made these yesterday whilst dodging heavy rain and I think we must have needed an antidote to the horrible weather, because they're waaaay more colourful than normal! These technicolour beauties are at but you can order to collect from our farm at Manor Lane over the weekend too!

We're back from our little break and the flowers seem to have changed their tune overnight. Working with nature gives us small, early hints that a change is on the way and this bouquet said it all this morning! We're loving the bronzy, caramel tones but feeling a little sad that our growing season will be over in just a few short months. Is anyone else feeling that autumn is on the way? Have you noticed any signs yet?
The dahlias are INSANE at the moment, lots of glowy berry and pink tones flowering this week! Bouquets have been restocked at but we've turned off orders for delivery/collection until Tuesday as I'm away on a lil birthday trip. You can still order for Tuesday onwards, or pop into Knab Farm shop if you need your flower fix this weekend!

“We’ve been keeping a rather large secret for the last few months. We’re opening a shop! We’re really excited to bring our social enterprise, Roots & Bloom CIC, to Leah’s Yard. The building has such a rich history of local makers and craftspeople so it seems fitting that our florists shop will be based there.
Flower farming was a widespread British industry in the 1950’s, until imported flowers took over, but we’re bringing a small piece of that back with a modern, sustainable take on traditional floristry!
We’re offering a truly eco-friendly alternative to imported bouquets with all our flowers coming from our farm just a mile away, or from other local growers.
Our mission as a CIC is to improve the health and wellbeing of people who are living with young onset dementia through Social and Therapeutic Horticulture and each bouquet we sell directly helps to support isolated or marginalised people in Sheffield.

We're not quite sure how we still have stocks at the beginning of August but, we do! These blackcurrant beauties have taken such a long time to flower but we're kinda glad becuase they're the perfect pairing with lavender snapdragons 😍.
Loads of gorgeous bunches going out today, and there will be flowers at tomorrow morning too!
We hosted the cutest private workshop yesterday to kick of a birthday celebration. A cream tea with fancy fizz, a wander through our flower field in the sunshine collecting stems, then a bouquet making demo before getting creative with a huge bucket full of flowers. and both made such gorgeous bouquets!

All of the things - Sweet william, snapdragons, stocks, yarrow, tanacetum, ammi, alchemilla... there's some jam packed bouquets going out this week!

Each of our delivery options now comes with a vase and box included in the price, so if the recipient isn't home, we can safely leave the bouquet with a water source. It makes displaying the flowers super easy too. Just remove the box and tissue paper, replace the water in the vase, and enjoy for at least a week (or more)!

What's changed on our website?
🌱Delivery days are now Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning.
🌱Collections available on Friday afternoons, Saturday and Sunday. (Self serve)
🌱You can now book your delivery/collection date up to 30 days in advance! (Click the day and time in your basket to choose.)

We're at again today, and for the first time this year our bouquets are made with 100% our own flowers 😁. This feels like quite a big moment after a VERY slow start to the season! The field is bursting with Sweet Williams and campanulas, and there's much more about to come into flower too. It's been a long wait but bouquet season is finally here!
Just a week to go and then we'll be able to take bouquet orders again 😆. Everything is so close to flowering, we just need a few more days of sun and then flower season can begin properly. This time of year is always tricky with the unpredictable weather and we've had a few setbacks, but our late spring plants are almost there! Plenty more summer flowering things to come too, so we'll have flowers right through to the first frosts 😍💐

Wooohooo! Our anemones have flowered, just in time for today! Their stems are a little short for big bouquets so these will be making their way into the mini jam jar arrangements that you all loved so much at the last market. Come see us at Castle Gate today, 10am to 4pm ☺️💐
🎉Today is World Therapeutic Horticulture day!🎉
We support people who are living with dementia by using Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (or STH for short). But, what does that mean, and why is it so beneficial for people with dementia?
STH uses 3 main principals to bring about positive change in people lives: Connection to nature, meaningful occupation, and social interaction. Everyone can benefit from improvements in these areas but for people with dementia, who often find themselves isolated from their communities, working alongside others in a nature-focused setting can have profound effects!
Through our Gather & Grow sessions, people find companionship and are able to share their skills with others, creating a sense of inclusiveness and helping them to feel valued. Working with plants and flowers has a calming effect which can help with dementia symptoms like agitation, and it can help to stimulate memories too!
The plants and flowers we grow on our flower farm support the work we do during our STH sessions, meaning our bouquets are not only beautiful, but they support our community and our social mission as well 😊.

The first bouquet made from 100% our own flowers has gone out today! During our off-season we rely on stems form other British growers but as we move into warmer weather our little farm will start bursting at the seams!

We've started off this year with a few setbacks - something stole/ate all our tulip bulbs 😭, and then this warm weather has sent most of our first crop of ranunculus over before we could harvest them, so bouquet season is coming a little later than planned this year. We're going to hold off opening our website until we have a few more flowers in bloom, but it won't be long now!

There's some midi bouquets and one mini jam jar arrangement, all available for self-serve collection either tomorrow or Tuesday. Just order through our website then nip down to our farm at a convenient time. Instructions on how to find us will be emailed to you as we can be a bit tricky to find.

Our tulips are taking their sweet time but we've got some awesome locally grown blooms from other growers lined up, and we're hoping our own ranunculus and anemones will make their debut too!
A new flower for us this year. Lupins! They've grown SO fast and that alone might make them a new favourite 🤣. Sown on the 23rd of Feb and they're already 3 inches tall. It's really nice to see some vigorous growth after watching all our autumn sown seedlings languishing over winter. We're taking advantage of the warm weather today and potting them up, along with getting a head start on our summer seeds 😁.
Connecting people through flowers and nature is what we do best, and this week has been full of beautiful moments! Our partner Heeley Trust Community Hub have been celebrating their incredible Women's wellbeing project and at the beginning of this week, we had the honour of delivering bouquets to all the people that made it happen. Lots of smiles, and some tears (from us as well) made it clear how much passion everyone has for improving the lives of people in the area.

Mid-week we were back at Heeley Community Centre for our monthly Gather & Grow session for people with dementia. We've been running these sessions for 2 years and this year the group are improving the garden area so that everyone who uses the centre can enjoy it. These sessions aim to make gardening accessible for people so it's always a pleasure to see people getting stuck in and creating something they can be proud of!

And lastly (we might as well move in at his point 🤣) we were back at the community centre AGAIN for a bouquet workshop to say thanks to all the women who worked on the Womens' Wellbeing project. We had loads of fun getting creative and learning some floristry tricks, and shared a meal together. A lovely way to finish off the week!

We want to say a big thank you to Heeley Trust for supporting the work that we do too. Community support is vital if people with dementia are going to live fulfilling lives and by working with Heeley Trust, we're able to improve people's wellbeing and help them feel included in their community ☺️.

That's it, decision made. Our growing season is officially over! The rain has been relentless and even though there's still some dahlias bravely soldiering on, they're damaged and soggy and are looking pretty scraggly. 🌱 This year has been filled with so many flowers its been hard to keep up. We want to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you that's supported us by buying bouquets, coming to chat at markets or entrusting us with your wedding flowers! With your help we've supported a group of people who are living with dementia (and their carers), enabling them to connect with nature and experience things they wouldn't usually be able to access. 🙏 So here's a massive high five from us! 🌱 The end of our growing season means it's time to move onto Christmas things. Wreath orders will soon be live on the website and we've got some really exciting new projects to announce too, so watch this space!
So, this happened today! It's a bit bare at the moment but soon this will be a cosy workspace where we can dream and plan and start creating the next chapter of Roots & Bloom! 🌱 I've been feeling burnt out lately and a lot of that is down to working from home. It's so hard to find a healthy balance when you run your own business as the lines between work and home life get blurred really easily (and in my case, have disappear entirely 🤣). 🌱 This new space will be a place to focus, but also a place where work can be locked up and left for the night. And finally, the best bit... It means we can start to employ people! Our first job advert will be going out next week, so if you'd like to work with us, keep an eye out! 🌱 A big thank you to @wearethehide for offering us the space and making all this possible 😊.
Locally grown flowers just hit different, right? I sometimes get asked why our flowers are more expensive than the bouquets in supermarkets, and this is why. Each bouquet is carefully planned, cared for, grown, arranged, wrapped and then delivered by hand by someone who knows every stem inside out. I'm full of gratitude today, for the wonderful people that these flowers have brought us into contact with. The aim of Roots & Bloom is to use our flowers as a way to connect people with nature, themselves, and each other, and last year we saw their power in action! 🌱 Communities were formed, friendships were made, and some of our clients got to experience gardening and working with nature for the first time in years. As this spring gets underway I'm so excited about where these flowers will take us next, and to see the smiles and joy that they're going to bring to people 😊.
