She's home ❤️💔
In memory of Indy, our main girl...
Indy, our second Labrador, she was the dog who changed our lives forever.
Indy was the eldest of the Family Dog Services team. Born on 12th May 2012, she passed away on 1st July 2024
She retired from her role as a working gundog in the 2022/2023 shoot season.
For the last year Indy enjoyed a slower pace of life, she was our sofa buddy, always by my side, unless John offered a blanket next to him, she loved a blanket, especially my heated one in the winter.
She achieved quite alot over her 12 years. When she was just a year old she won an obedience competition, and after rigourous auditions, Indy and I appeared on TV competing on Sports Relief Top Dog.
Sadly, when she was 2 years old she had a doggy breakdown after she was attacked by another dog. Following this attack she became fearful of dogs, various sounds, the dark, and even people she didn’t know.
After being told by multiple trainers, she could not be 'fixed' we enlisted the help of our now very good friend Robert Alleyne and after months of rehabilitation, we finally got back to gundog training, and back out doing what she loved.
She became a fabulous picking up dog, and enjoyed 7 years working on various shoots before retiring in 2023.
Indy is the reason Family Dog Services exists today! She is the reason John and I studied behaviour and training. The reason we are passionate about helping others with their dogs.
Being very photogenic, Indy went on to model for a dog food company appearing on their packaging and appeared in multiple adverts. She made me so proud, especially working alongside a actress in one advert and a vet in a short nutrition film.
Indy was awarded 3rd place in a charity gundog working test, and she also passed her kennel club working gundog certificate.
In her spare time, she liked nothing more than to hunt for tennis balls, snooze on the sofa and enjoy countryside walks. She loved visits to the pub too.
Indy was never a fan of puppies, she never really played with Dude or Rose when they were puppies, she loved them, in her way, but she recently welcomed our youngest recruit Genie into the family, and decided this one could share her bed and would roll around with her in a way we never witnessed before.
In her final month's she slowed down, and seemed content to watch the others do their thing, sometimes she enjoyed a few retrieves, sometimes she just sat and watched.
In her final week she came to life. She wanted to do everything, maybe she knew.
In that final week she enjoyed water retrieves, dummy launcher retrieves, hunting for tennis balls, and we even relived some of our fun obedience moves.
There isn't a single thing I would have changed about her. She was my 'main girl' she was my light, my best friend, and my dog of a lifetime.
I only wish we had had more time.
RIP Adniel Victoria (Indy)
