It is always lovely to be appreciated and today both Carla and myself received a lovely box of chocolates and a card from a grateful client.
The dog in question arrived with nervous lead defensive behaviour and an elderly owner who just couldnt hold him on a lead. Carla worked with him on a 6 week course and then in a small group.
In my card was a lovely message, which I am going to share. I know this is a long post but hope it will be read. We can probably all relate to the story, myself included.
"When I telephoned you many months ago asking for help in training my yound German Shepherd Dougal VI you didnt know how helpless I was. Somehow his predisessor Dougal V and I had, without training, built a relationship of trust and friendship which is impossible to describe. He had atributes that most adults dont have. We walked sise by side on forest paths, explored the countryside together and were happy in each others company. I was the luckiest man in the world for eleven years. Then he was gone and I was bereft. After about a month our present Dougal VI arrived and I looked forward to a similar relationship. He was energenic and strong at a young age and broke a couple of leads, later he escaped into the hillside on several occaisions through ineffective fencing, but was always found walking peacefully with other dogs and their owners. They assured me that he had never caused any problems 'what a lovely dog' was a common remark. I always walked him on a lead, and his pulling and jumping became noticeable as he got stronger. People who didnt know him thought he was trouble and either turned around or took alternative paths. Non locals made sarcastic or unhelpfull remarks and 'my lovely dog' was getting a bad and misunderstood reputation. It seemed I had lost my last chance of reliving one of the most rewarding friendships in life - that betweena man and his dog. You were my only hope when I telephoned you and explained the problem. You invited us to your training centre and a few days later Dougal jumped out of the car and gave a demonstration. When you said you could help us you changed our lives for ever and no words can ever be enough to thank you for your discision.
You have been interested and involvced in Dougals progress from the beginning and will be pleased (as I am) with the wonderful work that Carla has done with him. She really is a genius. Dougal and I are getting closer through increasing mutual respect.
You may still see us working side by side on a peaceful path in beautiful countryside in the still, cool, fresh airof an Autumn morning, but, perhaps, not this year.
Thank you for your support and for your kindness to me. May you have many more successes".
