❗️❗️MATTING❗️❗️
When your dogs coat is matted or has areas of matting the kindest thing to do is to clip it off. Yes - the coat will be short and your dog may be a little cold to start with especially in the colder weather but it is the kindest option. There is no other way to get rid of the matts apart from taking the coat shorter. Dematting large matts is cruel as it causes discomfort from pulling the skin. It can also be dangerous if you are cutting matts close to the skin. The only way to safely remove them is to use a short blade to get under the matt and clip it off.
If a dog is matted in places, depending on the severity I will do what I can. If there’s matts on the chest I tend to clip the chest short and then try and blend in with the rest of the body. However I will never leave a dog’s coat patchy and uneven and in this case I would usually clip the coat short all over to start again.
Leaving matts on a dog is painful - it pulls the skin, can be covering sores and skin conditions and in severe cases can eventually cause loss of limbs.
When brushing through your dog please make sure you use a comb. This will get down to the root. A lot of the time with matting the top may seem fluffy end fine but underneath it is compacted and matted.
Here is a video of matting. This is nowhere near the worst case I’ve seen. This is just to show you that sometimes unless you feel a coat or use a blaster to part the hair that you can’t always see matting!

I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend!
As some of you may know, my family have been isolating this last week. We have had lots of time to do DIY including giving the salon its yearly refresh!
I thought it would be a good idea to do a video so you can all see the salons fresh look and also thought it would be nice for those of you who haven’t actually seen my salon.
For new clients - this is where the action happens!!
If you have any questions, feel free to message me or comment 😃
Have a fab weekend xx
PS here’s the video I forgot to add 🤣
📌 Just a little update for you all! 📌
If you have any questions, worries or concerns please reach out to me (even if it’s not about your dog - I love a chat).
I will be contacting you all individually regarding your dogs appointment.
Please continue thoroughly brushing your dogs coat with a slicker brush and comb. I can send you links to the ones I use and recommend - please message me if you’d like the links. I also have one comb left (£5) if you need a comb.
Take care and stay safe and watch this space for more videos and information.
Xx
