Onto a slightly more humbling pageant post…

We’ve had what is possibly close to being one of the most disastrous outcomes for our very particular style of events; an issue with pageant scoring.

Our pageant entrants are marked out of ten by 3 different judges, on three different categories, creating a score out of 30 from each judge for each dog. Those scores are then added up to create a total out of 90. The winners are then determined by the order of scores highest to lowest and the top 8 are awarded.

It was bought to my attention after the pageant had finished, that in noting the winning 8 down, there was an error made.
The first place winner was correct, but, there should’ve been another tie breaker for 2nd/3rd place who both scored 78/90.

This was missed and I apologise profusely to all involved

The dogs that were placed up on the red carpet from 2nd - 5th all had scores of 71/90, and were called up again to be put into the order the judges wished to place them. I have re checked the scores after being made aware and can confirm this to be true.
It was a human error type mistake that I’m surprised is only happening for the first time, 7 years into running the event.

Here’s what has been done to rectify the situation:

Having identified which two contestants should’ve been in 2nd and 3rd place, I decided that as I would never dream of taking other people’s wins from them, I’m going to create two additional places between 1st and 2nd, called ‘first reserve’ and ‘2nd reserve.’ So everyone who placed yesterday still retains their placing and prizes.
I have personally ordered new pageant rosettes, crowns and Jollyes Kettering - The Pet People have very kindly offered to send something to them too.

I sent images of both of the dogs in question to all three of our judges this morning and asked them to confirm which of the two they would choose to place higher, with the plan being that the majority would get the vote - as it was, it was unanimous. Thank you to the judges for extending your duties to this morning to allow this situation to be resolved!

So, now introducing, our Mr DogTown 2024, our 1st Reserve Mr DogTown 2024, our 2nd Reserve Miss DogTown 2024, and our 2nd place Miss DogTown 2024!
