💭Before you buy, think PETS🐾

Bringing a pet into your life is exciting – but it’s also a big responsibility. Before you decide, ask yourself:

🏡Place – Is your home suitable for the type of pet you want?

🍃Exercise – Can you provide the daily exercise and stimulation your pet will need?

⌚Time – Do you have enough time for training, play and care every day?

💰Spend – Can you afford the lifetime costs of food, vet bills, housing, and more?

A pet is for life. Make sure you’re ready before you welcome one home💚

Hold your horses!🐎💨

Horses are majestic, intelligent and loyal animals – but before you gallop into horse ownership, keeping a horse is a huge responsibility and requires major commitments of time, care and money!🕔

Did you know horses can live between 25 – 40 years? Before you saddle up, make sure you’ve got everything in place!🐴

✅It’s import that you do your research before getting a horse – choose a breed and temperament that will be suited to your abilities, circumstances, and requirements

🏡Prepare their home – Your horse will need secure, comfortable and appropriate accommodation. That means stables and areas to graze🌱

🤝Don’t go it alone – surround yourself with the support of knowledgeable people who can guide you: Trainers, vets, farriers and fellow horse owners

📲Our latest round of pet advert moderation shows just how risky social media platforms can be:

🚫72% of adverts broke PAAG Guidelines, showing the lack of animal welfare, buyer safety and the high risk of scams

🚩73% even breached the platform’s own rules!

📣Social media is still full of concerning adverts and unscrupulous sellers. That’s why we’re urging everyone to not buy pets through these platforms!

🐾If you spot a post that looks suspicious or breaches the site’s rules, report it directly to the platform to help protect animals and people

We’ve just completed this year's moderation period, and the findings are clear: social media is still flooded with misleading, unsafe and scam pet adverts❗

📣This is why we strongly urge you to never buy a pet directly from social media.

🔦Instead, always choose responsible sources like reputable rehoming organisations or trusted breeders

🚨Did you know?🤔

As part of our work to keep pets safe online, PAAG carries out an annual social media moderation across Facebook, Instagram and TikTok to track and understand the growing trade in pet sales across these platforms💻

🔎During these checks, volunteers from PAAG member organisations monitor pet-sales posts to see if they meet our Advertising Standards. Sadly, many don’t💔

🐇Bunny Love💞

They’re adorable, inquisitive and adventurous by nature🐰But, before hopping to buy a fluffy friend, make sure you do your homework!📖

Rabbits thrive with friends – they require the companionship of at least one other well-matched rabbit🐇This means double the floof and fun but also double the care and cost! Don’t forget their must-have vaccinations💉

They can also find being handled, loud noises and movements scary and stressful. Rabbits are sensitive souls, but with time and patience, they can become very loving and affectionate pets!💘

✨A HUGE thank you to our amazing Google volunteer, Sophie – and her adorable pup for all their help moderating pet adverts over the last two weeks🐾

As part of our work with pet advertising websites, PAAG carries out regular moderation of these websites that commit to upholding our Advertising Standards, for ethical and legal pet sales💻

During our moderation periods, PAAG members (or volunteers from organisations such as Google) review online pet listings to assess current compliance with our guidelines and Advertising Standards. This data gives us an opportunity to identify any issues, and make recommendations to these websites✅

As these platforms play a major role in the pet trade, insights from this project helps:

📊PAAG track trends and build a picture of how pet sellers operate

📣Improve animal welfare online

🔎Inform evidence-based government policy recommendations on pet advertising

Our goal is for every classified website selling pets to engage with PAAG and adopt our Advertising Standards – so future pet owners are informed, and animals are protected!

🙏PAAG really appreciated all of Sophie’s (and Ellie’s) hard work and time to safeguard our furry friends and to hold more websites to account on their standards of their pet advertisements!👏

🐾Ferrets: Small explorers with BIG personalities! 😋

Playful and full of curiosity – Ferrets love to explore their environment and benefit from their own ferret parks to stretch their paws, with lots of tunnels, hammocks, hides, toys and climbing frames!🎡

💭But before you fall for those adorable faces online, consider:

Ferrets, like dogs and cats, need vaccinations, neutering and routine flea treatment💉

Ferrets require companionship – They love interacting and playing with humans as well as their ferret friends for safety and happiness👪

🥄Ferrets are carnivores so they require a proper diet and very spacious housing to run, climb, stretch and forage🏡

While ferrets are known for being active and playful – They also love their power naps, often sleeping for up to 18-20 hours of their day!💤⏰
