Veterinary Physiotherapy with Alison Caldwell-Nichols

I always wanted to work with animals, growing up as a horsey teenager, then pursuing my interest in training dogs. I taught dog training (pet and competition level) for over 25 years and have competed in obedience and agility with my own dogs.

I undertook my veterinary physiotherapy training at University of Nottingham. It was a challenging level 7 postgraduate diploma and we had fantastic training in musculoskeletal anatomy, biomechanics, manual therapies and electrotherapies. I was trained in practice, by some superb veterinary physiotherapists and I am now qualified to treat dogs, horses and other species. I now combine my training and teaching experience with musculoskeletal therapy, thus living my dream!

There is significant evidence that veterinary physiotherapy can have a positive impact on healing and functional movement, making a huge difference to an animal’s quality of life as well as enhancing athletic performance in performance animals.

I offer a wide range of therapies including massage, range of motion, stretching, and exercise prescription. I love designing exercises to help patients to improve their normal functional movement and to improve their athletic potential. I also offer electrotherapies such as laser (phototherapy), pulsed magnetic field therapy, neuromuscular electrical stimulation and ultrasound.
