We all love getting out and about in our beautiful countryside with mans best friend for a good long walk and some fresh air.

However, please be mindful of the animals in the field and respect the farmers livelihood by keeping your dog back and on a lead. Therefore making it safe and pleasant for everyone!

This is definitely worth a visit for anyone wanting to start their veg growing.
It’s such a lovely place and Jo is amazing. X

I’m delighted to be visiting to teach a Grow-your-own workshop (From Seed to Scrumptious) on Friday 12th April. 🧑‍🌾

Together we will learn how to grow food from seed - trust me, there is nothing more satisfying! 😊🥬 🥕

We’ll discuss where, and how, to buy the best quality seeds. Ways to sow seeds to produce happy and healthy seedlings. And how to make the most of your growing space - no matter how big or small - a window sill, garden or even allotment! 🪴

I will of course be demonstrating one of my favourite growing tasks - how to make soil blocks - the perfect medium for growing seedlings! You can all have a go! I’ve perfected my recipe and technique so you can get it right first time, and give your seedlings the best start! 🌱

You’ll leave with a pot of sown salad leaf seeds to nurture - before enjoying some delicious salad over the summer months! 🥗

I love to talk all things growing so very happy to field all your individual questions on the night! 🤓

I can’t wait to meet some of you very soon! 😊

Until then,

Jo 🌱

Easter 🐇 cuteness alert

Well Spring has firmly Spring with the first baby Mammal to come through the doors...

This little Leveret, who is actually around 10days old already going by it's weight, was picked up by well meaning walkers at Alder Grove, thinking it had been abandoned as there were no adults around.

Baby Hares are very different from rabbits.. they are born fully fitted, eyes open, up and hopping about and even nibbling at solid green leaves virtually right away..
2 to 3 babies are born and they do NOT have to be together. They can be scattered around a field area..
Mum will drop in 2 or 3 times a day to check on them and feed them her milk.. outside that time they are on their own and will sit quietly in a 'Form' (a little arch of crass buried in the vegetation)

It's very important of you are in areas known to have hares living there, countryside, farmland, mountains, Belfast Hills etc.. please keep all your dogs on a lead. Free running dogs cause massive disturbance to not only the Hares but nearing ground birds. Dogs risk lifting baby Hares and taking them away from their Forms,
Chasing away the parents..

Please be vigilant and aware of the nature around you so these babies can stay with their mum's who do a way better job than we can ever do... :)

If you find a baby bunny/rabbit out on a walk and aren't sure which it is and what's the best to do, please send a photo before ever touching them. We can identify which it is and whether it needs to be picked up or it's actually fine to be left on its own.

If you would like to help support the continued daily work keeping us on the road to get to the rescue calls, help provide food and external heating for all the wildlife coming in you can use PayPal and send a donation to the below email address ,

Abit of a plea...

We are searching for a dog run,(must be a minimum of 6ft wide and6ft- 8ft long so it might be trimmed down and reattached to fit the space required.. ) similar to that in the image below.. panels that can be put together and potentially cut down to fit a set space..
Maybe you have one in the garden your not using anymore that you might be happy to donate??

We need to get a metal framed pen to fit in the back of the hospital shed. This will house larger animals such as Badgers, foxes, swans etc that need to be kept under a heat lamp...it can be kept relatively empty and allows us to put in various housing to suit whatever species needs it at that time. It needs to be metal so mammals cannot chew out and damage the structure etc.

If you might be able to help or know someone who has mentioned having an old dog run they must get rid of and is in good enough shape please think of us.

Help much appreciated..
