Sunak delciars that the American XL Bully will be banned by the end of the year!

Banning the breed isn't the answer to this issue. We already have 4 band breeds in the UK and that doesn't stop people being bitten or seriosuly injured!

The Kennel Club doesn't recognise the American XL Bully as a breed. This leads me to believe that these dogs would then be "typed". I.e. any dog that shares physical characteristics. I have known a couple of large leggy staffies that has been typed as Pit Bulls (a banned breed) and have subsequently been moved to a kennels for the rest of their lives or PTS. This had nothing to do with their temperament, only what they looked like. So, that would mean any large bull type dog or crosses, could potentially be caught up in this - should they meet the criteria of the characteristics. A scary thought!

There is no denying that these are big and powerful dogs. Yes, they have the potential to be aggressive, like any other dog breed. Yes, the can do serious harm, like any other small, medium or large dog breed. There are so many beautiful example of this breed with wonderful temperaments, living in harmony in family homes getting a long with children and small furries. With every animal (and human) it's nature vs nurture.

The issue here lies in two areas:

1. Backyard, careless or illegal breeders, that are breeding poor examples of the breed. Caring more about making money, than they do about ensuring the genetic lines carry good heath and temperament. (Nature)

2. Irresponsible owners, who have brought the breed to look the dog boll*x. And have no idea how to handle, train or care for this breed of dog. But, it's OK because they look 'ard. (Nurcher)

So put 1 & 2 together. A badly bread big powerful dog, with temperament issue being owned by someone who wants the dog for status value and can't handle the dog. There will always be a destater.

We have seen it in the past with Staffies, Rotties, GSD's and Dobermen. All powerful dogs with a certain "hard man" look about them. Many of which still cary the stigma that they don't deserve.

The solutions is to crack down on these breeder's, hard! And, to issue tougher (and I mean tough) sentences to irresponsible dog owners, with out of control dangerous dogs. Not ban the breed!

If you ban the breed, the sh*t*y breeder's will find the next best thing to breed and the moronic roadmen will buy them and the cycle will continue.
