Even though our dogs have the emotional maturity of a child aged between two and three years, and are able to experience fear, happiness, comfort, hunger and thirst - just as our youngest children can - they do not have the ability to communicate their emotions and tell us how they are feeling. However we do see changes like shivering,shaking, skin and coat issues and changes in their toilet habits, these are all important things to discuss with your Vet to help them understand what is happening 🐾🐶🤔

Feeding your dog a complete diet, which is correct for its life-stage is important to ensure the correct nutritional balance for its age. If your dog is a working dog finding the right food formula for their activity level is important too. If your dog is overweight, it is better to change to a 'lite' diet such as OSCAR High Fibre Lite or Pinnacle Plus. These diets have reduced calorie and fat content to help with weight loss. It’s good to find the right nutrition 🐶🐾🤗

Happy Wednesday 🙂 Let’s look at How Often to Feed Your Dog.
For most adult dogs, feeding twice a day is ideal unless otherwise advised by a vet. Your dog should not go more than 12 hours without eating, as this can cause digestive issues. Consistent, regular mealtimes help maintain healthy digestion, avoid accidents, and keep your dog’s weight in check. A regular schedule also reduces stress, as dogs thrive on predictability. For puppies, we recommend the following feeding schedule:
Up to 12 weeks: Minimum of 4 meals per day
Up to 16 weeks: Minimum of 3 meals per day
Up to 12 months: 2-3 meals per day

Lets look at why you would change your furry families food, as they get Older the food needs to match the change in activity or joint care needs. Maybe it’s time to change to a low fat diet or if the activity levels have increased like working dogs, you need to move to a high energy food. Some fur babies develop sensitivities and then benefit from a grain free food like Fish and Potato or Turkey and Potato rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. A snowy start to the day which of course for me is lovely ☺️ Let’s look at Ear infections in dogs and what signs to look out for. We all know that sore and itchy ears are a common condition in dogs, but it might surprise you to know that these conditions can be the reason for up to 20% of veterinary consultations. 👂Most dog owners will spot the tell-tale signs: the dog tilts or shakes its head or rubs and scratches around its ears. Let look at Puppies and Tummy issues 🐾 If your puppy has diarrhoea, don’t panic. 🐾If your puppy remains bright and cheerful, give a diarrhoea paste which will help to dry up the motions, bind gut toxins, and usually contains probiotics to help rebalance the gut flora. 🐾Make sure that your puppy drinks plenty of water to avoid dehydration; flavouring the water with a little unsalted chicken stock or using a dog electrolyte drink can help. 🐾Do not starve a puppy with diarrhoea, instead offer small meals of an easily digested fish or chicken-based food. A chilly start to the day with snow and ice 🥶 If your dog is a short-haired breed or feels the cold easily, introduce a dog coat on walks to keep them nice and warm. Keeping a longer coat will help your dog to keep warm and protected from the cold weather. Regularly groom your dog to brush away the dead fur.
Be careful when letting your dog off the lead in icy or snowy conditions. An excitable and energetic dog could easily injure itself. Have a great day 👍🐾🐶

Well 2nd of January and things are getting back to normal (what ever that is lol 😂 ) This is the time of year we start to have thoughts about Diet after all the goodies 🫣 So here’s some tips for our furry family members.
Divide allowance of food over 3-4 meals, 🐾Feed a reduce calorie food such as OSCAR High Fibre Lite or Pinnacle Plus, 🐾Gradually increase regular exercise. 🐾If your dog has any health concerns, speak to your vet before making any changes. 🐾Use ‘slow down’ bowl and interactive feeders such as Treat Egg 100% Rubber Dog Toys or the Buster Activity Mat , 🐾Weigh your dog’s food daily, 🐾Feed lower calorie treats and adjust feeding amounts where required. Hello weekend 😁 this is my cat Alfie she loves catnip however my other cat Toby isn’t bothered. Why is it some cats go mad for it and others can take or leave it? This is what I looked at from https://www.petmd.com/news/view/why-do-some-cats-not-react-catnip-37525 It has been noted in scientific literature that about 50-70 percent of cats show the positive response to catnip. Why? It appears to be genetically related. If the cat was not born with the genes that cause a response to catnip, then he will not show the immediate response to catnip. These cats might be missing out on this experience, but that doesn’t mean their quality of life is poor.
