Well I’ve still a good amount of the white stuff ❄️⛄️ If your dog is a short-haired breed or feels the cold easily, introduce a dog coat on walks to keep them nice and warm. Keeping a longer coat will help your dog to keep warm and protected from the cold weather. Regularly groom your dog to brush away the dead fur.
Be careful when letting your dog off the lead in icy or snowy conditions. An excitable and energetic dog could easily injure itself. More info here https://www.oscars.co.uk/blog/cold-weather-with-pets

Today lets talk about Dementia. This subject is very close to my heart ❤️ I have a family member in a care home with dementia related issues. Can Pets help people with dementia? There are animals and their owners, who are often volunteers, might make regular visits to care homes. The animals will often be breeds of animals with a calm or gentle temperament. This is often known as ‘pet therapy’. This site talks about some of the benefits https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/blog/can-caring-for-a-pet-help-a-person-with-dementia This is a fantastic way to interact with these individuals.

Does your fur baby have loose stools? Or maybe they are Scratching more than they should? Food sensitivities are more common than allergies and do not involve the immune system. They are generally triggered by the digestive system and are less serious than allergies. When your cat or dog has a food intolerance, it means that something in their food doesn't agree with their body. It does not trigger the immune system to react like a food allergy does, however, it can cause other unpleasant symptoms for your pet. I can help you find the right nutrition give me a shout 👍🐾

A winter feel to the day -1 to start the day. There’s always so many chats on social media about Dogs being off their lead in parks or on walks, with unfortunately triggering events leading to bites and very frightening experiences for other dogs and their parents. It’s so important to keep your fur babies on a lead to help you have control. (Even locking an extendable lead)There are special closed in areas in some parks for dogs to run safety, however even here you would need to keep a close eye. Stay safe and Lead Up.

Why are Boxes one of a cat’s favourite places? This is Tog 🥰🐾In the wild, small, hidden spaces protect cats from predators. A box is a secure, enclosed environment that triggers a cat's natural instinct to find a safe den. Curling up in a box lets a cat keep watch while feeling hidden and safe. And because cats typically sleep up to 12–16 hours a day, finding the ideal (and safe!) spot to snooze is important to them.🐾 theres lots more interesting facts here https://www.petmd.com/cat/behavior/why-do-cats-like-boxes

Hello weekend 😁 this is my cat Alfie she loves catnip however my other cat Toby isn’t bothered. Why is it some cats go mad for it and others can take or leave it? This is what I looked at from https://www.petmd.com/news/view/why-do-some-cats-not-react-catnip-37525 It has been noted in scientific literature that about 50-70 percent of cats show the positive response to catnip. Why? It appears to be genetically related. If the cat was not born with the genes that cause a response to catnip, then he will not show the immediate response to catnip.
These cats might be missing out on this experience, but that doesn’t mean their quality of life is poor. They also aren’t aware that they are missing out. 🤣 By the way if anyone what’s the catnip mouse get in touch 🐾🐈👍

Dalmatians are more susceptible to urate crystals. They have reduced reabsorption of urate in the renal tubules (kidney) which causes them to excrete large amounts in the urine. A presence of a high concentration of urate in the urinary tract appears to predispose this breed to the development of urate urolithiasis (uroliths). It is recommended to ensure adequate hydration and feed a diet with moderate to low levels of high-quality protein and low purines to promote alkaline urine. It is important to choose an appropriate diet that is suitable for your dog dependant upon age, body condition, s*x and other health considerations. Have a chat with your vet OSCAR have a food which you can discuss with your vet please get in touch for details 🐾 more information ℹ️ https://www.oscars.co.uk/blog/low-purine-requirement-dalmatians

It’s that time of the year again! 😁🎄Some people just love Christmas shopping - spending time looking for and choosing gifts for friends and family. But what should we buy for our pets?
As very important members of the family, it is only natural that we want to make sure that our pets receive presents at Christmas time; but we need to think about what things are appropriate and, more importantly, what things are safe. Many treats and chews are imported from China and are processed via several chemical treatments, some of which involve toxic chemicals. Theres also a huge variety of clothing, dressing your dog or cat in a Santa suit might make you feel good, but, a word of caution; leaving your pet dressed up on Christmas day could cause him/her to overheat. They may also attempt to chew through it and, in doing so, accidentally swallow wool or fake fur resulting in urgent veterinary treatment. 🐾Have a chat with me my gift boxes are totally outfit free and full of amazing treats and toys. 🧸 You pick your budget I will take care of the rest 👍 😁🐶🐈 https://www.oscars.co.uk/blog/christmas-presents-for-pets

Let’s look at Dental Care Tips for Dogs. Firstly, never force your dog to have its teeth cleaned! Teeth cleaning should be an enjoyable experience for both dog and owner. Forcing your dog to have their teeth cleaned can make them feel stressed and worried. It can also have a negative impact on your dog's confidence when handled in a similar way by a vet or groomer. If you would like to chat about toothpaste and hints and tips just get in touch also more info here https://www.oscars.co.uk/blog/dental-care-for-dogs

Welcome to OSCAR Pet Foods Ballymena

“Hello! I’m Lin Hunter. Together with my daughter, Maxine Mcilreavy, we are your OSCAR pet food suppliers in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. From the seaside town of Ballycastle – to Ballymena and beyond – and from Belfast to the rugged Giant's Causeway, our special home delivery pet food service is designed to support all your pet care needs. We are professionally trained Nutritional Advisors providing a personal service that supports honestly labelled, high-quality dog food, puppy food, cat food and kitten food. We leave no stone unturned when it comes to catering for your beloved pets. Come and explore our extensive range of toys, treats and terrific pet supplies – all waiting to spoil your treasured friends. “They say the customer is always right … and we agree! Being longstanding OSCAR customers ourselves, we wanted to keep the OSCAR paw print alive in friendly County Antrim! So, as soon as the franchise came up for sale, we decided to join forces and start our own family business.

"We discovered that using OSCAR enabled us to live our lives to the full around family, friends, home or work because we never had to worry about running out of pet food, treats … or pretty much anything pet! Not to mention the convenience of OSCAR making pet shopping so easy. And, with four dogs, plus two rescues, we also found the expert nutritional advice very reassuring.

“Between us, we have a good thirty years of experience working for the supermarket who quotes 'every little help's'. When I took redundancy to find a new way of life, help also followed. With Maxine by my side, transferring our skills from HR and communications proved a natural progression. And, with two in our team, we can be on hand whenever you need a visit.

“We love to spend precious time getting to know you and your pets. Becoming your ‘right-hand women’ when it comes to pet care means carefully listening to your needs in order to provide you with a service you can rely upon … and we never say ‘no’ to a cuppa! “It's important for us to make sure all of your pets receive carefully thought out nutrition designed to match their lifestyle. Our love of animals is strengthened by offering high-quality pet foods that have been individually designed to cater for all breeds, life-stages and conditions. We only supply pet food that has been formulated by experts and honestly labelled: giving you confidence that we are providing optimal health and wellbeing for your dogs or cats.
