A very big thank you to Penmellyn Vets in St Columb in Cornwall for taking such great care of our special little girl Bonnie today.

Bonnie went to her furever home last Friday after coming into our care sadly limping with a possible cruciate problem.
We had Bonnie scanned at Medivet Referrals here in Nottingham a few weeks ago that confirmed it was indeed a cruciate problem.

We decided to find Bonnie her furever home and promise to fund her cruciate repair so she could start her recovery at “home”
Bonnie was seen this morning and underwent the necessary surgery.

All went well and it’s been reported that Bonnie is all good, she has been for a short walk, had her tea and is very happy and lots of tail wags.
Bonnie will stay over night and be ready to be collected tomorrow.
Thank you Ailsa & Steve for loving her as much as we do.

Little Bonnie will be up and around in no time. The hard part will be keeping her quiet for the 6 week recovery period. 🙈

We have also promised to fund her physio and hydro program to ensure her correct rehabilitation.
This is really just as important as the operation itself.

Thank you also to our wonderful supporters who have also donated to us to help Bonnie.
Your kindness to our special rescues is so very much appreciated.
We may be only a small rescue but we give our all to every single one that is lucky enough to find us.

Edward will be looking down smiling knowing his rescue is safe in our paws, and it’s being run and managed just as he wished it to be.
Edward has himself graced Penmellyn vets a few times whilst being on his holidays in Cornwall so we know first hand how wonderful they are. 🤎🐾🌈
Team Edward, the small charity with the big ❤️

This is Teddy, a very brave patient we’ve had the privilege of caring for recently🐻
He came to us as he was lethargic, vomiting and had some diarrhoea. He was admitted for pain relief, anti sickness medications, intravenous fluids and work up to a diagnosis.

During his stay he required a whole host of diagnostic imaging which included abdominal ultrasound scans, x-rays, an exploratory laparotomy and a CT scan. The exploratory laparotomy (a surgical procedure where an incision is made into the abdomen to examine the internal organs), this showed he had severe necrotising pancreatitis. This is a severe form of pancreatitis where the pancreas becomes inflamed and begins to break down causing the tissue to die (necrosis). This is a life-threatening condition that requires immediate and intensive treatment.

After performing an exploratory laparotomy to assess the extent of the damage, we followed up with a CT scan for more detailed imaging. To ensure Teddy could receive the nutrition needed for recovery, we placed an oesophageal feeding tube. A central line was also placed for fluid and medication administration, as well as being able to take blood samples without causing him to become needle shy or sensitive to this. All while closely monitoring his progress.

It’s been a tough road, but Teddy continues to show incredible strength and resilience. Teddy is continuing his recovery at home, eating and drinking well, is very bright and doing really well🤍🫶🏼

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Rue, a lovely Huntaway x Kelpie, to Penmellyn for her laparoscopic spay procedure.

A laparoscopic spay, also known as keyhole surgery, is a minimally invasive technique for neutering female dogs. Unlike traditional spays, which involve a larger abdominal incision, laparoscopic spays use small incisions through which a camera and specialised instruments are inserted. This advanced technique allows for reduced pain, faster recovery times, and smaller scars, making it a more comfortable experience for your pet.

The photos capture Rue’s journey with us, beginning with her calm admission and progressing through surgical preparation by our dedicated surgical team. The surgical images show the careful precision of the laparoscopic procedure.

Following surgery, Rue was closely monitored as she recovered comfortably with plenty of TLC from our nurses. She was soon enjoying a tasty post-operative meal and a gentle stroll outdoors in her stylish zebra-patterned recovery suit. Rue was a star patient, and we wish her a smooth and speedy recovery!🐶🤍
