Bowen is unique in that Therapists work with the body, rather than using any force or hard manipulation. We also leave breaks during the session, initiating “interoception” – your brain’s perception of your body’s state, transmitted from receptors on all your internal organs.

The therapist will make Bowen moves drawing attention to an area of the body, then during the breaks the brain asks the body "how do you feel, and do I need to do anything about that?"

You may not have heard of interoception yet, but it is one of the fastest moving areas in neuroscience and psychology. Bowen is the only therapy that deliberately leaves breaks, allowing interoception to take place.

"Ever wondered why Bowen affects people on so many different levels? A painful touch will set off alarm bells in the nervous system and will go to a part of the brain called the motor cortex that will trigger an emergency reaction. Not caring too much about the reason for the pain. A gentle non-threatening touch - like we use in Bowen, will trigger a different part of the nervous system that is connected to a part of the brain called the insular cortex. The insular cortex is an extremely busy integration hub, collecting all sensory input and information regarding our blood pressure, digestion, heart rate, pain levels, and much, much more. It is also involved in motor learning, all emotional and life experiences, helps to regulate pain, and the main area that our Vagus nerve feeds into. It is constantly creating output, triggering other systems in relation to all of this input received. And that is why Bowen is so powerful - we tap into the insular cortex.".

Equine Bowen Level 3 Students

A great few days spent with our Level 3 Students improving their knowledge and taking the next steps in achieving their Equine Bowen Qualification.

A huge thank you to Sally at Greenways Stables for allowing us to treat her horses and ponies. Also to Sarah Dove for her wonderful facilities and log burning stove. Plus Kelvin Williams CEqDT Equine Dental Technician for giving us a lecture.
