Our Story So Far
Almost seven years ago my eldest daughter was offered a bunny from her friend as her grandad bred bunnies. I reluctantly agreed and told her as long as she was looking after the bunny and I didnt have to hold the bunny she could have one. When her friends grandad brought us the bunny it was a cute little black and white one but she was offered a white one too as it was his companion so we agreed to take the two instead of the one. The black and white one was a boy and the white one a girl and we named them Alvin and Beth and for quite a few months they got on well together.
Christmas Day Alvin seemed to be really quiet and looked really ill so we kept a close eye on him. A few hours later Alvin moved to the other side of the cage and the straw started to move Alvin had given birth to 3 kits who we later named Smudge, Rainbow and Starburst. Alvin wasnt in fact a boy she was a girl so we renamed her Alvina. After many consultations with my daughters friends we renamed Beth as Jimbob as he was a boy.
Alvina went onto have another two kits who we named Dewdrop and Stardrop and on boxing day she gave birth to Honey.Three months later we adopted our first lop rabbit who we named Snowflake and she got on very well with the others at first. Two months after that we adopted another lop rabbit who we named Snowball. In September 2015 Snowball gave birth to 4 kits who we named Snowy, Fudge, Snowdrop and Pebbles somehow she had got together with one of the male bunnies we will never know how and who it was though.
Now comes the sad part we lost Dewdrop at 2 to suspected bloat it was so sudden it was too late to get her to a vet. We lost Snowy and Fudge at 6 weeks old to diarrhoea. When Rainbow was three we lost him to a bleed on the head which was also very sudden. At 3 and a half years old we lost Starburst we believe it was just his time to leave us at 1 year old he was diagnosed with a deformed jaw so he was always at the vets with his teeth and his eyes. At 4 years old we lost Stardrop to Headtilt he only survived a few months after being diagnosed with it. It was awful seeing him so ill, in hindsight maybe in this case euthanasia would have been the kindest thing to do, but at the time we couldn’t bear to do it. At 5 years old we lost Alvina but we found her just permanently asleep one day she had died in her sleep. At 4 and a half years old we lost Snowflake to we believe natural causes and she too died in her sleep.
