🎉 Today marks exactly 2 years to the day that I saw my first patient as a qualified veterinary physiotherapist. 🎉 I can’t believe where the time has gone! I want to say a huge thank you to anybody that has supported me during this time. We also have some new things in the pipeline so watch this space 👀

I received this lovely thank you card from my private physio client, who also attended hydro with me at Bluewaters Canine Centre - Hydrotherapy and Physiotherapy. I love incorporating both hydro and physio into my treatment plans. Do you know about the different forms or hydrotherapy?

As always, anything urgent please feel free to get in contact and I will do my best to respond, as quickly as possible. Is anyone else attending/watching crufts this year? A couple of weeks ago my gran’s nearly 21 year old cat passed away. Obviously we miss her dearly, but with her current health it was the right time for her. It is never an easy decision, but here are some tips that may help you decide if the time is right.
🐴 Are they eating and drinking normally?
🐶 Are they struggling to clean themselves?
🐱 Are they aware when they need to use the toilet and have control when they do it?
🐰 Are their comfort levels being managed effectively?
🐮 Are they struggling to move around?
🐷 Have you noticed a change to their normal behaviour?
🐹 Are they having more bad days than good days, writing a diary can be really helpful with this?

What actually is physiotherapy and how does it work? It’s not actually some kind of witchcraft 🧙‍♀️ it uses a range of different techniques to maintain and restore a patient’s mobility, function, and well-being. Physiotherapists have been trained and assessed to be able to read scientific papers to understand how treatments work and provide a safe and effective treatment plan. To find out more about the treatments I offer and how they work, please feel free to visit my website or contact me directly.

Chase had his first session with me this week and this was him at the end. He was asleep on the vet bed but unfortunately went camera shy when I went to take a photo. He did so well, particularly as he gets anxious and struggles with new people, due to his previous life! We made sure to give him plenty of breaks, but he quickly came back for some more attention. Excuse the hairy trousers, they were clean on I promise!

I’ve been seeing Rosie regularly since October last year and today was her first time in the pool, as previously she was in the underwater treadmill. Rosie’s owner has been really dedicated with her care and is proof of that using a multimodal approach really effective at keeping her mobile and comfortable. If you have any questions regarding a multimodal approach please feel free to get in contact.

With the weather getting warmer I thought I’d share some myths that are not supported by science for keeping animals cool. Each title states the myth and the descriptions talk about the actual science. For any heat related advice I strongly recommend Dr David Marlin. How do your animals like to stay cool?

As I’ve not officially introduced myself for a while on here, I thought with today being my birthday it would be a good day to start. From as young as I can remember I have always been drawn to animals. As a birthday present 18 years ago, I started horse riding lessons at a local riding school. That’s me in the photo around 7/8 years old! At 14/15 years old, I began work as a stable hand at a local riding school, which led onto me teaching lead lessons for beginners. Due to starting uni I had to give up the role. However, I am really lucky to still able to ride currently, instead I tend to ride and help a friend with their horses.

Tune into my next posts to find out more about my animal experience 🐶🐴🐮 and why I became an animal physio.

⚠️ Did you know? ⚠️ Like animal physiotherapist, the veterinary nurse title is not protected? 👩🏻‍⚖️Legally that means anyone can call themselves a veterinary nurse with no qualifications! The BVNA (The British Veterinary Nursing Association) is trying to change this and it is why this May it is veterinary nurse awareness month. Would you like to understand more about your pet professionals’ qualifications?
