Bonnie certainly cheered nurse Olivia’s day up today and was a ray of sunshine on a wet March morning. Olivia called to see Bonnie for a routine nurse appointment and Bonnie enjoyed lots of tummy rubs and schmackos in the comfort of her own home. Well done Bonnie definitely the star of the day ⭐️

Fred has been poorly for the last couple of weeks. Completely off his food and just not himself. He is terrified of going in the car, so has enjoyed his vet visits in the comfort of his own home. He’s much better now and doing what guinea pigs love best. Eating 🥰

Meet Daisy, she just loves to smile and show us all those pearly white teeth!
This month is pet dental month and we would love to see your pet's beautiful smile on our new local Facebook site.
If you do have any concerns over your pet's oral health then give one of the team a call on 07930 742830 to book an appointment in the comfort of your own home. One of the team will be able to show you some of the many ways in which we can care for our "pets" teeth at home and stop them needing more invasive treatment in the future. 😁

We would like to welcome Sian and Olivia to the Vetcare at home team, they will be working in the High peak branch and will be covering the Chapel, Chinley, Whaley Bridge and Buxton areas.

Sian Beard BVSc MRCVS qualified as a vet from Liverpool university in 2012, she has been working in the local area ever since so she may already be known to some clients. Sian lives with her husband, two young children, her dog Plum and cat spidey. In her spare time Sian loves to go open water swimming and walking in the peaks with Plum and her family.

Olivia Duffy Rvn qualified from Lite ltd in 2008 and has also been working in the local area since. She has a keen interest in nurse consultations and is excited to now be providing these consultations in the comfort of peoples homes. She lives with her boyfriend, two children, two cats (Dizzy and Dodger), her horse (Peggy) and her border collie Daisy in the new mills area. She loves getting out with the dog or horse in the fresh air and can also be found in the kitchen baking treats for her work colleagues in her spare time.

We had a lovely afternoon at St John’s Primary school today. We took in our two very well behaved Guinea pigs and talked to reception children about life as a vet, what it involves and how to care for animals. I think we enjoyed it as much as they did, and hopefully inspired some to become a vet in years to come 👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️🐶🐾🐱

Update: Thanks to all who looked for him today he has been found. Unfortunately, it was very sad news. Our deepest sympathy to his family at this very sad and difficult time. He was so very loved ♥️🌈😞.

One of our clients cats from Appletree Road area in New Mills is missing - please keep your eyes open for Bracken and spread the word to check sheds and garages! Let us know if he is spotted - his family are very worried!

🌞OUR SCHEDULE🌞

We can’t wait to see you all tomorrow for this years Thornsett Dog Festival. Here’s our schedule of the day so please arrive in good time to get involved in our “Have a Gos” and enter the dog show.

ENTRIES FOR THE DOG SHOW WILL CLOSE AT 11:15 AND THE SHOW WILL BEGIN AT 11:30.

The weather is set to be quite warm especially in the afternoon. Please make sure you bring adequate water for you and your pooch, cool coats/bandanas & cooling mats for your dog.

There will be access to water, shade and paddling pools. You know your pooch better than anyone so please watch them closely throughout the day.

Don’t forget the good old factor 50 sun cream, shades and hat for yourself. Refreshments are available all day. We are quite lucky with our location that there is a constant natural breeze. We will continue to monitor the weather closely and keep you guys informed of any future change.

Most stalls will accept card, however please bring CASH as well. The Dog show is cash only.

So, the warm weather is here again! Time to refresh our memories on how best to recognise when our pet is too hot and how to act early to prevent heat stroke.

Dogs don’t just die in hot cars. Exercising on a warm day is a GREATER threat to U.K. dogs. The most at risk dogs are young males, older dogs and flatter faced dogs.

Early recognition of mild heat related illness saves lives!

Panting, tiredness, less keen to play - time to take action!

- Take your pet somewhere cool
- Give your pet a drink
- Pour cool water on them/hose them down
- Put a fan on
- Call the vet for further advice and support

Sometimes a day doesn’t turn out as planned. Today I was late for all my visits! My morning dog walk turned into a bird rescue mission. A grebe was spotted caught up by its neck on a barbed wire fence - so I waded across a river and scrambled up a nettle embankment to rescue it. Wrapped it in my coat and took it home. One of our nurses, Alex, headed over to help me clean him up, assess his wounds and settle him in a cage (in my daughters bedroom!) to rest. After speaking to wildlife rescue, we were advised he should be rested, fed and watered then released back onto the river. He made a great recovery over the course of the day, and has been returned home to the river this evening.
