Thought of the day flexileads on collars are ALWAYS a bad idea!

Flexileads have their place and we used one to help with Jacks recall training but flexileads on a collar are a pet hate of mine.

Jarring to the neck can lead to injuries both to the spinal cord and the trachea. These injuries can be severe and in my opinion are just not worth the risk. If you are using a long line or flexilead please attach these to your dogs harness and not their collar.

No pets have a perfect movement pattern.

Erin started having regular bi-monthly veterinary physiotherapy to help improve her trot gait as she had started to pace (where the legs of one side of the body move together instead of in diagonal pairs).

Erin continues with her sessions to manage her back pain associated with her changed movement.

Thought of the day- You are good enough.

I spent a long time not feeling good enough especially when it came to my pets and maybe you’ve felt that way too?

Save this for when you are not feeling good enough to remind you that you are brilliant.

I want to say 2 things!

1. Lameness is almost always linked to pain
2. I can’t help you with lameness until you’ve seen a vet.

Lameness is a fancy word for limping. If your pet has been suffering from a limp please take them to see a vet to check for the cause.

You may think you only need 1 vet physio session but I promise you, you do need regular physio sessions at least every 8-12 weeks even in fit and healthy pups.

No one is perfect and it’s the same for our dogs.

They don’t move perfectly, they don’t always allow us to warm them up correctly and at the end of the day they’re not robots.

Even our cars need checking every year and if yours is anything like mine it always needs something fixing!! Our dogs pick up tiny areas of pain and tension and if we leave these areas they become something bigger and can lead to injuries if not noticed.

Get those areas noticed and treated now so they don’t become something bigger.

“Is medication enough to control long term OA pain?” Have you thought it too?

Medication can be a huge help to pets with OA but in my opinion is not the full story.

Medication can help to reduce pain but where there has been pain we get decreased movement too which in turn leads to decreased muscle. So with just medication how to we fully increase movement and muscle?

We can’t.

Our pets need help to regain that movement and muscle mass. This help can come in the form of controlled exercise, veterinary physiotherapy and hydrotherapy.
