THINK PIECE: Financial Stability Isn’t Luck—It’s Planning.

❓ What do you feel is your biggest financial concern making a career change?

Reflecting on Financial Concerns During Life Transitions
“I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.” Louisa May Alcott

Major life changes—whether starting a family, moving abroad, or shifting careers—can be both thrilling and overwhelming. One common thread through all these transitions is the question of financial readiness.

Recent insights from our Community Mastermind at The London Vet Show revealed that nearly 37% of veterinary professionals worry about sustaining their lifestyle amidst fluctuating income.

Others feel uncertain about pricing their services or navigating tax implications when stepping into freelance or consulting roles.
Interestingly, 73% of respondents are new to financial planning for significant changes like these, while 16% have tried but lack confidence in their approach.

This highlights just how unfamiliar financial planning can feel when facing new challenges.

But here’s the truth: financial planning isn’t just about spreadsheets or budgets—it’s about creating a safety net for your aspirations, whether they involve raising a family, exploring new opportunities, or moving to a different country.

Take a moment to reflect on a couple of these that resonate:
💭What’s your biggest financial concern about your upcoming life change?
💭What small step could you take today to feel more prepared and confident? Perhaps you could start by going through a helpful financial healthchecker
💭Are there any unnecessary expenses I can cut to build a financial cushion?
💭What is one financial habit I can start today to make the transition smoother?
💭If I’m worried about pricing my services, what research or advice can I seek to feel more confident?
💭Who in my network could I reach out to for advice or inspiration about managing similar changes? Why not join our free community events next week (see comments)
💭How can I stay focused on progress rather than perfection during this time? Why not book a free call with a financial advisor like Ruth

It’s okay to feel uncertain. The key is to start small—setting financial goals, learning about your options, or seeking advice. Whether your focus is family, location, or career, every action brings you closer to feeling secure and empowered.

Transitions are opportunities for growth, and you’re more prepared than you think to take them on! We are here to help! Join us

We wanted to give one of awesome Financial Advisors Ruth Downs a huge high five and we will be cheering you on virtually!

Ruth will be at too and you can book in for a one on one coffee and cash catch up! Plus she will be at our mastermind too:

Here is what Ruth had to say …

Tonight’s THE night!

It is an absolute honour to be a finalist at the 2024 Women In Financial Advice Awards int he category Woman of the Year – Vulnerable Client Care.

I never thought that doing what i do and offering advice to the deaf and hard of hearing community would get recognised at such prestigious events. I do it because the industry needs to change and make advice more accessible and I will continue to help do this.

Only 16% of financial advisers int he U.K. are women. Read that again. It’s shocking and I will be the first to say, it is NOT easy. I do this because:
A) I love what i do!
B) There is a need for women to be in this industry.

I am very honoured to be a finalist and whether i win or lose tonight, I will continue to strive to make this industry better.

Who can you thank or leave a review for today?

It's easy for us to remember in HD the less than ideal clients or the lost luggage at the airport. The way we can change this is by amplifying the good stuff.

Who can you thank or write a review for today? A business? A service you used recently? A friend? A colleague?
It will take you 5 minutes and probably make their DAY.

Thank you to the community members who drop VetYou a line, it means a lot and this is why we exist, to empower you to build the financial future you deserve.

PS: Fancy some negotiation tips? Why not schedule some CPD time and watch back one of our many negotiation replays on our YouTube Channel https://youtu.be/yJ6w3uOIvSA?si=aY9XTg8jqLJ2CYCo

What advice would you give your younger self regarding finances?

As summer ushers in a new wave of graduates into our profession, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the newcomers and the teams that have guided them to this significant milestone. Transitioning into professional life brings with it numerous questions, one of the most pressing being: How do we balance quality of life now versus securing our future?

Reflecting on this, what advice would you give your younger self about finances?
We would love to compile your gems and add them to our resource hub for new grads and students https://www.subscribepage.com/vetyouresources

Let's be honest – budgeting might not always seem like the most thrilling of topics.

We've all had that moment of stubborn resistance when someone suggests we should be more 'mindful' of our spending. (Cue defiant Pingu...)

But here's the thing: taking control of your finances doesn't have to be a chore.

It can actually be empowering, especially when you have the right support and resources.

That's why we're thrilled to announce our collaboration with Veterinary Woman for their upcoming event series, Facing Up To Finances, empowering veterinary women to take control of finances.

These sessions are designed to make financial planning feel less daunting and more doable, no matter where you are in your career.

Whether you're a new grad, practice owner, or anywhere in between, there's something for everyone.

And the best part? You'll be joining a community of like-minded professionals who understand the unique financial challenges we face in veterinary medicine.

Ready to learn how to harness the power of budgeting, step past limiting beliefs and re-write your money stories?

Head over to the link to learn more and register. Let's tackle this together!

Remember, while we aim to educate and support, individual financial advice should come from a qualified professional. But don't worry – we can help connect you with vetted experts who understand our industry!
