Who's been there? 👀🤷🏻♀️🙋
Last year, VetYou founder @theleadershipvet gave an awesome webinar on negotiation. If you'd like to watchback, pop a comment below and we'll send it out.
You are allowed to discuss pay with coworkers under the 2010 Equality Act, and there can't be clauses calling for total secrecy. However, it's essential to be respectful and professional when having such discussions in the workplace. 🙌
It is worth noting that some contracts have additional clauses in about confidentiality, so whilst pay can be discussed between colleagues, we'd suggest doing your due diligence before posting in public spaces or social media. This might not be covered under the Equality Act, so check your contracts 🙌.
HR Magazine wrote an interesting piece on this in January 2023:
https://www.hrmagazine.co.uk/content/comment/the-dangers-of-being-too-open-about-pay
Other places you can find out information about expected pay:
The SPVS Salary Survey
Glassdoor
Looking at job ads for similar roles
Speaking to friends
Asking for confidential insights
Alice from @thisvetcan_blog has been posting insights too
As Paul said in his webinar, spend twice as long preparing as per the actual discussion.
Don't forget, you can negotiate on many things other than salary too.
If we can help loop you in with a financial professional, drop us an email [email protected]

VetYou Finances: How do I run a side hustle?
Are you excited to run a side hustle but a little bit overwhelmed with the finances? Who do I pay taxes to? How much? Where do I declare it? What should I be tracking and keeping records of? We know the entrepreneurial amongst you are super keen to launch your ideas, so let’s not let the financial aspect of this hold you back. We’re thrilled to be joined by chartered accountant and chartered tax adviser, Nichola, who has worked with many veterinary professionals, businesses, and side hustlers. This session will be approximately 30 minutes with plenty of time for Q&A.
Don't forget early bird ends this evening for VSGD Live 2.0 x Get Set For Vet. Tying in nicely with this session is the panel on starting a business - I just know there will be some absolute gems in there.
If you're watching us on our page or in Vets Stay Go Diversify, please drop your questions and we'll either address them live or we'll come back to them later.

Ruth and team are offering a FREE protection health check, to make sure that the products that you have (whether Income Protection, Life Insurance, Critical Illness Cover, Keyman Cover) are fit for purpose.
Someone this morning fed back that they'd had a super experience and their policies were actually suitable for them, no changes needed - happy days (and most restful nights)!
If you'd like to take advantage of the protection healthcheck, email [email protected] with the subject "PROTECTION HEALTHCHECK"

💰💷Who here does an annual family financial plan?
We have certainly been inspired to, and we couldn't resist a repost!
“And at that point, you go, right, what do I need? What do I actually need to get through and get by? Then what do I want, so that I can do the things that matter to me. And all of a sudden, you see that in the world, money is an enabler of what you want to do. Money isn't the goal.
You have to have sufficient of it at stages in your lives. And that's why sitting down and probably the output for the guys into this now is to say, just get that piece of paper, and actually write down and make it a discipline. And once a year, I do every January, after Christmas, I sit down and do the financial family plan.”
