Who can you thank or leave a review for today?

It's easy for us to remember in HD the less than ideal clients or the lost luggage at the airport. The way we can change this is by amplifying the good stuff.

Who can you thank or write a review for today? A business? A service you used recently? A friend? A colleague?
It will take you 5 minutes and probably make their DAY.

Thank you to the community members who drop VetYou a line, it means a lot and this is why we exist, to empower you to build the financial future you deserve.

PS: Fancy some negotiation tips? Why not schedule some CPD time and watch back one of our many negotiation replays on our YouTube Channel https://youtu.be/yJ6w3uOIvSA?si=aY9XTg8jqLJ2CYCo

What advice would you give your younger self regarding finances?

As summer ushers in a new wave of graduates into our profession, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the newcomers and the teams that have guided them to this significant milestone. Transitioning into professional life brings with it numerous questions, one of the most pressing being: How do we balance quality of life now versus securing our future?

Reflecting on this, what advice would you give your younger self about finances?
We would love to compile your gems and add them to our resource hub for new grads and students https://www.subscribepage.com/vetyouresources

How is it best to balance quality of life now vs retirement/future?

What would be your advice?...

FRIDAY FINANCE - Can we take a moment to help you with your personal finances in vetmed?

Here's one thing nobody talks about enough....

You'll hear the phrase....

"Money doesn't buy you happiness*"

*But, in fact, to an extent - it does.

A 2010 study found that day to day happiness DID go up with money, but only up until about $75,000 per year (approx £60k). Now, obviously, adjust that for inflation too in 2024.

We can't ignore how finances affect our wellbeing. They impact our ability to meet our basic needs, to care for ourselves and those we love - and of course to follow our dreams.

Now, you can see from this study that it does reach a plateau.... but the vast majority of professionals in vetmed earn less than this amount.

What if we gave ourselves and our teams more resources to understand and take action on personal finances? That's where VetYou comes in, and wh we are SO proud to do what we do.

You can nab a free chat with many of our network of financial professionals directly on our website.

You can find a time that suits you so that you can go back to recharging after a busy day, rather than playing email tennis trying to arrange a call.

You matter.
Your money matters.
Let's keep opening the conversations.

Looking after your money helps you in turn to look after your happiness.

The best best time to take action is now 🔥

Sometimes, the unexpected happens.🤦‍♀️

Reposting this after nearly one year!

"Katie here, I'm one of the VetYou team - I'm also a vet and run my own business(es).

For 2 weeks, I haven't been able to do any work.

I put my back out.

Here are 5 things you can't afford to miss...

💥1. This could happen to anyone.
I am reasonably fit. I go to the gym. I don't do extreme sports. We aren't invincible, even when young.
Life happens. Work happens.
Whether you're on a farm and hurt by a crush, kicked by a horse, bitten by a cat....or bend down to pick something up...don't be naive enough to think this can't be you.

💥 2. Check your contract and benefits NOW
Don't find out *when* you're injured that your workplace doesn't pay you if you're sick or injured...be forewarned and forearmed.
Some places may give 2 weeks or 6 weeks pay.
Others will give nothing.
Statutory Sick Pay from the government is just £109.40 per week. Would that cover your bills? I know it wouldn't mine.

💥 3. Income Protection exists
This is a special insurance policy that gives you a tax-free monthly payment if you're unexpectedly sick or injured. It's generally a % of your regular income.
Be aware different levels of cover exist - much like pet insurance.
Some kick in straight away, for some, there's a delay.
Equally there is different cover depending on the work you're able to do.
There are still options with pre existing conditions, we did a series on this.
Sounds complicated? It's something worth getting right and hence why we work to intro you to trusted financial advisers that help you make sure you're properly covered. Drop us an email (UPDATE: now you can book in directly with a financial professional on our website! Plus you can learn about another protection product on there too.)

💥 4. Other policies can he helpful.
One of the (few) good financial decisions I made in my 20s was taking out private health insurance - it was a much lower investment because I was younger.
I'm so grateful for our NHS and aware of the privilege having cover is, this is a debate in itself, but it has helped greatly in getting back on my feet so I can get back to helping others.

💥 5. Get your emergency fund in place.
Is there a delay before your income protection pays out?
Create a pot to cover you for the unexpected.

You won't regret it.

Share far and wide 🙏"

Pssst... I know lots of people tend to message us and say they can't get income protection for various reasons. We ran a whole series in collaboration with BVCIS on this topic, busting myths, explaining alternative options and how often having a financial professional in your corner can be valuable. The series is on our YouTube page, check it out.

Home Protector
If you follow VetYou, you’ll know that we often talk about the value of protection policies, in case you become injured or too unwell to work.

For veterinary professionals, VetYou, along with FutureProof Limited are very excited to launch Home Protector from Holloway Friendly, as an option to help cover some of your monthly costs, in case you’re unable to work.

What is Home Protector?
Home Protector is a way you can take control of being able to pay for your home, for up to one year, if you couldn’t work because of an illness or accident. It pays out the money you need for your mortgage or rent, plus there’s the option for a bit extra on top, if you need it.

How is Home Protector different from Income Protection insurance?

Income Protection is based on a percentage of your income and you can choose how long you want to be paid for. This will typically be for one year, two years, or until you retire. Income Protection requires you to answer a number of health and financial questions. Essentially you have to apply for Income Protection, and while you may be accepted, you may also find the answers you’ve given cause your price to increase or for you to be declined.

With Home Protector, there are no health or financial questions, and rather than your income, Home Protector is based on your mortgage or rent (plus a little extra on top if you need it). This makes Home Protector much easier to buy. Home Protector pays out for up to one year and repeat claims are possible (please read the Key Facts and terms & conditions)

https://vetyou.co.uk/home-mortgage/home-protector/

If you’re looking to cover more of your income, for a policy that pays out for more than 12 months, or to discuss your individual circumstances in more detail, you can speak with one of our financial advisers. Head to www.vetyou.co.uk to find out more.

Future Proof Limited are leading protection specialists, who are available to provide support and assistance should you decide to take out the Home Protector product.

VetYou is an Appointed Introducer of Future Proof Limited and their Firm Reference Number (FRN) is 971606. Future Proof Limited is an appointed representative of St. James Place Wealth Management plc which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Would you be able to pay your rent or mortgage if you were suddenly unwell and unable to work?

Within the veterinary profession, many of us know stories of unexpected illness and injuries amongst ourselves and our colleagues. Those times can be stressful, let alone with potential added financial challenges.

VetYou are delighted to work with Future Proof Limited, to introduce you to the Home Protector Product from Holloway Friendly.

Future Proof Limited are leading protection specialists, who are available to provide support and assistance should you decide to take out the Home Protector product.

With Home Protector, your mortgage or rent will be paid for up to a year if you are too unwell to work in your job. There is an option to add a little more on top of this too.

There are no health or financial questions - the policy is quick and easy to purchase.

You aren’t covered for conditions that you’ve had within the last two years, or permanent conditions.

The full details can be found on the website; there’s a brilliant video that explains everything.
https://vetyou.co.uk/home-mortgage/home-protector/

When you buy Home Protector, you’ll also get free access to a fantastic 24/7 GP service, with the choice of video or phone appointments. It’s also available for your partner and children under 18 to use, if they’re living with you. We know that working in veterinary practice, it can often be tricky to find time for personal appointments, so we were excited to see this offered as part of the policy.

If you’re not sure whether this is right for your given circumstances, or want to explore other options, there is the option to speak with the provider directly, or to book in with a financial adviser.
