One of our clients found what is presumed to be an escaped indoor cat last night in Westbourne. He is male, neutered but his microchip unfortunately isn’t registered so we are unable to find out who the owners are. Please contact us on 01202 532817 if you recognise him/know the owner.

Poor Cleo was experiencing sneezing fits and bloody nasal discharge. She was sedated and had her nose and throat investigated. Rosanna found a big grass blade caught down the length of her soft palate and nasal cavity! Cleo will be much more comfortable now it’s been removed 😺

*FOSTER HOME FOUND*

This elderly gentleman has been surrendered over to our care and is now looking for a loving home. According to his microchip details he is 17.5 years old. He is a chatty boy and enjoys a fuss. He’s had his vet health check and although whilst he has fleas (which he has since been treated for) his heart sounds healthy and he seems in good shape. He has also had a basic blood test (liver and kidneys) and all of his results are within normal limits which is rather unusual for a cat his age. His teeth aren’t in the best condition so he may be needing a dental clean soon.

Please call us on 01202 532817 for more information on Oscar

🦎 Reptiles suffer from dental problems too!

All sorts of reptile species can suffer from dental/mouth infections, often known as ‘mouth rot’. Bearded dragons are particularly suspectible to dental problems, which can progress into severe calculus build up, gingivitis (inflammation of the gum line), gingival recession and even deep bone infection - particularly in older animals. Studies of beaded dragons have shown that dental disease was present in 50% of the studied animals (Mott et al, 2021).

Brucie came in to us with periodontal disease and an infection of his tail. He had surgery to amputate the end of his tail and descaling of his teeth. He has been recovering very well!

If you would like to book a health check with our vet Emily, she is happy to see all your furry, feathered and scaled pets!

*Reminder to check your cats nails!*

Elderly cats are particularly at risk due to their limited exercise and wearing down of nails, so it’s always a good idea to check your cats nails every few weeks to ensure they aren’t growing too long and curling round into the skin!

🎉💥New Year’s Eve Fireworks!💥🎉
Most of our fur babies fear the sound of fireworks so please follow these simple steps to ensure they feel as safe and calm as possible.

✅ If possible, keep them inside the house. This prevents your pet escaping!!
✅ Shut windows and close blinds/curtains
✅ Have music playing or the TV on for background noise
✅ A safe space such as a crate with comfortable bedding and their favourite toy (as a place for them to escape to)
✅ Remain calm yourself and provide comfort and reassurance to them

We hope this helps!🐾
We wish everyone a Happy New Year and a safe start to 2023🎉🥰

We are open today until 12.30pm if you need us ,otherwise we will see you all on Tuesday 3rd January 2023.

Aside from presents, if there’s one thing we all associate with Christmas, it’s food. We humans love to tuck into a festive treat while we play board games with the family or enjoy a cosy night in front of the TV, and there’s no reason why your cat should miss out on enjoying some goodies, either. These homemade cat treats are perfect for sharing with your feline friend as you enjoy your Christmas dinner, or popping into their stocking for a festive present.

If you could smell a FB photo, this is the one 🤢 Sorry if you are just about to have dinner

Picture below * the dental procedure our super vet Emily along with our amazing nurses had to perform today *

Let's chat about teeth and dental health 🦷

🗣 Allow me to de-bunk the wives tales:
👎 Dogs (and cats) have stinky breath, it's a part of getting old. NOPE! Imagine not going to the dentist for 10yrs?
👎 Old dogs (and cats) lose teeth as they get older. Umm, have your teeth fallen out recently without seeing a dentist?
👎 Older pets are picky with food, they don't want to eat biscuits. Yep! Ever chewed a cheap steak with a toothache?

🦷 - Dental pain is a real thing for your pets.
It can create behavioral changes, especially in cats and small dogs.
We see little ones getting aggressive, or picky around food and refuse to have a cuddle or a pat around their face.
Some of the teeny ones might bite you when your going in for a face smoosh.
Medium and larger breed dogs get picky with food, change their eating habits and can refuse (hard) food altogether.

What NOT to do:
❌ Offer softer foods, and change food routines..
❌ Hand feed.
❌ Create a terrible food time regime to try and convince the little fluffy-bums to eat.

Simple solution?
💁‍♀️Our wonderful nurses provide a service for grading the Dental disease for FREE! Yay!

Regular dental descales are a great way of minimising periodontal disease 🦷

Finger brushing, tooth brushing and dental diets all help to prevent the build up of calcified plaque (tartar) but if you think your pet needs a dental check up, please call us on 01202 532817 and we can book you in with our vet or nurse who will then decide if a descale procedure is needed.

For patients on our Premium pet health plan, there is 15% off our descale packages!
