I've not really been on social media much, but I just wanted to give an update on Digger as he's asked after all the time, so thank you for being so understanding and caring about our boy 🥰
Snuggles with my boy in-between clients are my everything right now ❤️💔
These photos were taken during the week. As you can see, the mass is huge. We are absolutely torn on what to do as it hurts so much knowing we have got to make a decision when he's still acting himself. I keep hoping he will show me, just a day where he lies down and lets me know. Everyone keeps telling me that I'll know when it's time.
I've never had to look after a dog with a terminal illness. It's so hard, it's stressful and upsetting. He's not just a dog or a dog that's unwell. He's dying. He's family, he's our son, our boy . Digger helped me through the most difficult time of my life. The pain of many operations, post natal PTSD, low moods, long-term health issues. He is my rock, he was there for me and he looked after me. He made me stronger, and he is the reason this business started - it will always be his place, Diggers Den 🥰
He had a check-up on Friday as he was showing some discomfort above his other eye. Our vets have added an additional painkiller and a course of antibiotics.
We are so grateful that he's given us this time. He was only given 6 months to live in May, and we've had some occasions where we thought it was time, but then he bounced back and started eating again, or the swelling reduces.
He's been himself all this time, going walkies, running around with his squeaker toys, and playing with Ginny and the kids. His weight has dropped a bit, but some days he eats one meal. Other days, there is no filling him - eats his own, then comes back for Ginnys. I constantly have the bowls filled and treats out to let him graze whenever he feels like it
We are now at the point where we are discussing when is the time... I don't want this to burst, and the kids see it. I would love him to be there for some Easter Adventures with the kids, but I think he would struggle. Sometimes, running around, chasing the ball can cause a nose bleed.
I look at dates in March, and I just can't bring myself to end his life, so please, please understand that if I cancel last minute, I will be at home with Digger
If anyone has old squeaker toys you no longer use, then please donate to Digger as I'm spending a fortune on his hobby - kill the sqeaker 🤭
