Paws2Freedom is a Dog Rescue Initiative set up by a small group of dedicated dog lovers who work to change the lives of some of the most unwanted and neglected souls in this world. We are a registered Small Charity and our trustees are: Susan Sheldon, Mark Bridgeman and Jean Abbs. We rely on kind donations and our own limited private funds to help dogs in need. Paws2Freedom's volunteers work along

side animal rescue organisations, private rescuers and animal welfare campaigners. It is our belief that as a global team we can achieve so much more. We offer advice for adopters who would like to rescue a dog from abroad. There is no charge for this; our payment is the happiness of knowing that another life has been saved. All the dogs under our rescue's wings are only rehomed after a home and ID check. We also offer rescue back up for life, to ensure that adopters can always turn to us for help - no matter what - and that none of our dogs will end up in rescue kennels or be advertised/sold through Gumtree or other media. At present our rescue has only one kennel with an outside run which we use for behaviour rehabilitation cases, but we recently have connected with a wonderful dog boarding facility close by, run by an amazing dog trainer, who is supporting our work. We also offer home foster within our small group of wonderful foster families. Here each dog will undergo a temperament and health assessment before he/she moves on to to their very own forever home. A great number of our rescued dogs have endured hunger, severe neglect and often unspeakable cruelty. By supporting and helping dogs from situations where all they knew was pain and suffering, we get to be part of seeing them become the beautiful and happy dogs they were always meant to be. Some of our work is focused on helping dogs from the Bark Ark Shelter in Bosnia, we also occasionally work with one selected rescuer in Romania which has become known as 'the land of death for dogs'. Far too many dogs in overseas countries suffer starvation, neglect and unspeakable abuse. We also work to help dogs here in the UK find homes and we offer support and advice. It is our mission to grow so that we can help more and more dogs to a happy and safe life. We can't change the world, but we can change the whole world for the dogs we are able to save. Every single life counts more than words could say.

❣️🐾 LOOKING FOR ADOPTION, FOSTER/SANCTUARY FOSTER AND SPONSORSHIP ❣️🐾

Welcome, wonderful rescue hearts, to our ever-evolving album of dogs searching for their perfect homes – through ADOPTION, FOSTER (Cornwall/Devon only), and SPONSORSHIP (worldwide)!

Here at Paws2Freedom, we have a delightful mix of dogs: some seeking forever families, others needing temporary foster care until they find their forever homes, and some cherished special souls looking for sanctuary-foster homes where they can spend the rest of their lives.

How does it all work?

For SPONSORSHIP, you'll find our furry friends featured on our website. You get to choose the cost, frequency, and duration of sponsorship. As a thank you, you'll receive a digital sponsor certificate. Plus, you'll see updates on their adventures posted on Facebook and other social media platforms, as well as on our website.

For FOREVER and TEMPORARY HOMES, we want to make sure it's the perfect match for both you and the dog. It all starts with filling out an application form on our website at www.paws2freedom.org. Once we receive your application, we'll give you a call, maybe ask for some video footage as a pre-home check, and then arrange a home visit to meet your family and pets. It's a great opportunity to chat more about your new furry friend and address any questions or concerns you might have. And if everything clicks, you'll soon be meeting your chosen dog! This may require travel on your behalf to where the doggy might be located in Cornwall/Devon. Whether adoption or foster, full rescue backup will always be provided throughout the dog’s life, hence we truly appreciate staying in touch.

For FOREVER HOMES (Adoption), we'll set you up with an adoption contract and request an adoption donation to support our rescue work. We ask for £350 for dogs up to 9 years and £150 for our older, wiser companions aged 10 years and above.

For FOSTER HOMES, we'll provide you with a foster contract. While we cover most costs, we do ask for your commitment to providing a loving environment and a good quality species-specific diet for your foster dog (unless medically needed, we don’t support kibble-only diets). Financial support is available if needed.

Contributions are always appreciated, but what matters most is your dedication and time to help your foster prepare for their forever home or in case of sanctuary-foster, to give them the best life possible. And who knows? Sometimes, that bond becomes so strong that fostering turns into adoption!

Have any questions? Feel free to get in touch with us via private message, email at [email protected], or give Susan a call at 07775604687. We can't wait to hear from you!

With love from all the team and wagging tails here at Paws2Freedom. 🐶

CORNWALL/DEVON PLEASE SHARE 🙏🐾💕

🐾 TRUE RESCUE HEARTS WANTED!🐾

Meet Koko, a beautiful young girl in urgent need of a loving forever home or foster family. At just 18 months old, Koko is full of love and affection once she gets to know you, often becoming a cuddle monster! 🐶💕

However, Koko needs some socializing and confidence building, as she can be randomly reactive while on a lead. But don't worry - we'll gladly provide a step-by-step plan to help Koko become the best version of herself. 📝

Time, commitment, and a secure garden are essential for Koko's well-being. While she's lived with other dogs before, she may need some time to adjust to new furry friends. Koko's new home should provide a quiet space where she can decompress in her own time during the first days or weeks. 🏡

Koko's rescue story is one of resilience - found as a stray pup with a broken leg, she's undergone surgery in Bosnia, leaving her with a slight bend. But this doesn't hold her back! As a Vizsla cross, Koko is not a low-energy dog, so an active lifestyle would suit her best.

She will soon have to leave her current home, and she also lost her foster home too. Could you be the one to give Koko the loving forever home/foster home she deserves? If you're ready to open your heart and home to this sweet girl, please get in touch. Together, we can make Koko's dreams of a forever home come true! 🐾

KOKO
FOR ADOPTION in CORNWALL/DEVON

Vizsla Cross

Koko is currently living home life in Cornwall and will sadly lose her home very soon.

🐾 KOKO - a name inspired by the rich color of cocoa, perfectly suiting this smart, spirited, and affectionate girl. Koko is certainly a lively cocoa bean 🍫🐾❤️🐕

Size: 40-45cm approx shoulder height

S*x: female

Age: 18 months (approx DOB 8.8.22)

Neutered: yes

Vaccinated: yes

Microchipped: yes

Child friendly:
Yes, but Koko would be well-suited to an adult-only home. Alternatively, if there are children, teenagers in the home would be preferable due to Koko’s boisterous ways. It's important that the children are dog-savvy and understand how to respect a dog's boundaries.

Dog friendly:
Yes, but Koko's playful and exuberant nature, coupled with her puppy mischief, can sometimes be overwhelming for other dogs. She has responded well to corrections from other dogs here and has shown a submissive demeanor. If she were to live with another dog, it would need to be a suitable match with an experienced owner who can effectively manage her and provide guidance. Dogs learn quickly from each other, so having a well-behaved role model could positively influence Koko's behaviour. However, Koko would also thrive as an only dog if she receives regular socialization and interaction with other dogs outside the home.

Cat friendly:
Koko has had some exposure to cats who were accustomed to dogs while she was a young pup in Bosnia, and she seemed to be okay with them. However, she has not lived with felines since and we cannot guarantee how Koko would behave with other cats. It wouldn't be surprising if she showed interest in chasing them just for fun. If her new home includes cats, it's essential to have experience in introducing both species and creating the right environment. We're more than happy to offer assistance and guidance with this process.

House Trained:
Yes, but initial accidents during the settling-in period can not be excluded.

Behaviour/Temperament/Unique traits/ Training needs:

This captivating dog, Koko, embodies the lively, friendly, and affectionate traits typical of her breed. However, she also possesses a strong sense of self and can be stubborn at times.

Koko's unique talents include:

1. TREASURE HUNTING: She enjoys hiding treats in the garden and retrieving them later.

2.AFFECTIONATE CUDDLER: Koko loves snuggling on the sofa for some quality cuddle time.

3. PAW HOLDING: When seeking attention, she insists on holding your hand with her paw.

4. EXCITABLE GREETINGS: Koko enthusiastically howls with delight when welcoming you home.

5. OBSERVANT SIDE-EYE: She has impressive observational skills, always aware of her surroundings.

While Koko is intelligent and quick to learn, she benefits from consistent training, particularly in focusing on her handler. She responds well to positive reinforcement, such as lavish praise and tasty treats.

Though she knows some basic commands like Sit, Stay, and Come, Koko occasionally exhibits "selective hearing" when distracted. Her recall is very much a work in progress. Therefore, ongoing obedience training is essential to refine her skills.

Koko will need gradual confidence-building exercises, especially in leash training and socializing with other dogs and people outdoors. Starting in a familiar environment like the garden and gradually expanding to new settings will help her adjust comfortably. We are more than happy to provide guidance on this for her future people.

Continued training and patience from her future family are crucial, as Koko thrives on loyalty and connection.

With her hunting breed background, she enjoys engaging in sniffing activities, making sniffer games an excellent option for mental stimulation and bonding.

With her mischievous antics, Koko brings joy and laughter to those around her every day. Her charming personality and Hungarian Vizsla cross temperament means that she's well-suited for active individuals or families ready for an adventure-loving companion.

While in overall good health, Koko will benefit from slimming down a bit.

Rescue story:

Koko's journey began when she was discovered as a stray pup with a broken leg. The compassionate team at the Bark Ark rescue shelter in Bosnia took her in, providing the neccessary surgery and care to mend her leg. This marked the start of Koko's transformation, setting her on a path toward recovery and the opportunity for a new and loving home in the UK.

Ideal Home for Koko: 🏡🐾

Cornwall/Devon only, please.

Koko is seeking an active and experienced individual or family who can dedicate ample time to her training, daily exercise, and companionship.

Breed Experience:

Prior experience with Vizslas or thorough research into the breed's characteristics is preferred. Vizslas are high-energy dogs that require good training, and they offer unmatched loyalty and affection in return.

Preferred Setting:

A quiet, semi-rural or rural environment away from the hustle and bustle of busy cities or towns would be ideal for Koko.

Essential Requirements:

A spacious and securely enclosed garden is essential to accommodate Koko's playtime and training needs.

Understanding and Patience:

Given Koko's past and temperament, she requires a calm and sympathetic home environment without undue pressure or expectations. Her new family should be prepared to adjust around her needs during the initial weeks and months of transition. See our NEW DOG GUIDE here: https://paws2freedom.org/new-rescue-dog-faqs/

Commitment to Training:

Regular training sessions will be beneficial to help Koko reach her full potential. She is intelligent and eager to learn, responding well to positive reinforcement techniques involving praise and treats.

Other Animals and Children:

Older dog-savvy teenage children could be perfect companions for Koko. Another dog in the household could be beneficial, depending on their temperament. Koko requires a good role model who can also assert themselves if needed. However, the initial introduction may take a bit of time.

For homes with cats, we are unable to assess Koko's compatibility, hence we would favour a feline-free home for her. However, if you have previous experience with introducing your cat to a new dog, a dog-savvy cat and gradual introduction are recommended. This could take time. Our experienced canine coach offers free guidance to adopters/fosterers.

We kindly request an adoption (forever home) donation of £350 (TEMPORARY FOSTERING IS OF COURSE FREE), not as a purchase fee for the dog, but as a contribution to support our ongoing rescue efforts. Your generosity enables us to continue making a difference in the lives of dogs in need.

Application and vetting processes apply. Please get in touch if you're interested in adopting Koko; we typically respond within 24 hours. A Meet & Greet will be arranged after the application is approved. 🐾❤️

SONI FOR ADOPTION IN CORNWALL/DEVON

Labrador-Retriever

Soni is currently in Cornwall and is looking for temporary home-foster or adoption.

Meet Soni, a Labrador-Retriever with a resilient spirit. Dumped at a Bosnian rescue shelter, Soni, a former chain dog, yearns for a loving home. Despite his past, he's lively and loves people, especially females. With patient socializing, he'll thrive in a caring environment. Are you ready to give Soni the love he deserves? Full profile below. 🐾❤️

SONI - meaning GOLDEN which is so fitting for this gorgeous Labrador-Retriever.

Size: 50cm approx shoulder height

S*x: male

Age: 10 years approx

Neutered: yes

Vaccinated: yes

Microchipped: yes

Child friendly:
yes, but considering Soni's temperament and lack of training, as well as given that this will be his future retirement home, he is looking for settled environment, preferably without young resident children. Despite his age, Soni is brimming with energy and enthusiasm, but he may need guidance in controlling his exuberance, especially around young children, as he might unintentionally cause harm due to his bouncing nature. Older teenagers who are accustomed to dogs and understand their boundaries could be a lovely match for Soni.

Dog friendly:
yes, to a large degree. Soni's recent past was spent in a bustling pen alongside other dogs at the Bark Ark rescue shelter. However, despite his usually amenable demeanor with the dogs he's encountered, Soni can be selective, requiring thoughtful introductions, especially when on a lead. In our experience some introductions take longer than others and we had one fail completely which was largely due to the other dog's nature and behaviour. We feel that Soni prefers females to males. While Soni may like being the only dog in his new home, we envision social interactions with other dogs outside his home life.

Cat friendly:
Sadly, we are unable to assess Soni with cats here.

House Trained:
Soni is very clean here, however, in a home environment this could change for the first few days until he is settled more. As far as we are aware Soni hasn't lived in a home before. We recommend to treat him like a puppy and take him out frequently, and after any excitement.

Behaviour/Temperament/Unique traits/ Training needs:

Soni, at 10 years young, defies his age with his zest for life.

Though his past remains a mystery in parts, it's fairly certain that he endured life mainly on a chain with limited training. Now, he's a blank canvas ready for obedience training.

Having been a chain dog, Soni will require a patient and realistic approach as he hasn't seen much of life as we know it. The kind rescue heart who wants to give Soni his forever home would need to be prepared to work around his needs and make adjustments to their lives where needed, during the first few weeks/months.

As a typical Labrador-Retriever Soni is a food enthusiast, quick to learn for a tasty treat! But he also has a very stubborn side and his hearing can be nothing short of 'selective' at times.

Despite arriving a bit underweight, with good nutrition, Soni's resilient digestion helped him gain weight.

He thrives on human connection, adoring cuddles and attention. Having said that, he can be a bit of an impatient wriggle-monster and needs to release his enthusiastic energy first.

While quite social and surprisingly well-adjusted with people, even after a life on a chain, Soni can be a bit selective about his dog friends. Patient and confident socialization will help him find balance.

He can be strong on the lead at times and is not used to being lead walked in the outside world yet. This is something his future family needs to introduce him to step by step, at Soni's own pace.

Soni isn't just a furry friend, he's a conversationalist! This lovable pooch expresses his impatience and affectionate nature through a series of friendly woofs and soft howls to express his emotions and/or get his human's attention.

Perfect for a reasonably active people, Soni's ideal home would channel his breed traits and energy into fulfilling activities.

Soni's wonderful personality awaits the right companion. He is a diamond awaiting a good polish so that he can become the best he can be with people who are sympathetic to his past as a chain dog and are able to be patient and fit their lives around Soni's needs for the first weeks/months until he knows what's expected of him in life as we know it here.

Kindly respect Soni's need for decompression as he settles into his new life in the UK. Please follow our guidelines for new dogs, offering him the patience and space he requires for a smooth transition. Your understanding ensures a successful and loving adoption. https://paws2freedom.org/new-rescue-dog-faqs/

Blood tested/Health:
Yes. Tested negative for Brucellosis, Leishmans, Heartworm, Lyme Disease, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichia and passed her general pre-travel health check.

His first UK vet check revealed good overall condition, but needed treatment for a long term ear infection and antibiotics to help his fairly recent neutering scar to heal.

There are various little scars on Soni, which may or may not vanish in time (some already have).

He has a little growth above his left eye which appears to be benign.

Soni, albeit lively-wriggly, was a star at the vet and always eager for a treat.

Soni is currently having treatment for his ears again and while at the vet he was diagnosed with onset of arthritis in his hind quarters/hip which will need ongoing pain management. He is currently doing great on Metacam and YuMove joint supplements.

Rescue story:
Soni was dumped at the Bark Ark shelter in Bosnia by his previous owners. Being an owner dog in Bosnia means most likely a chained life and dog house outdoors rather than indoor home life. We don't think that Soni has experienced home life as we know it in the UK.

Ideal Home:

Cornwall/Devon only please.

Soni's perfect home would be with someone experienced with his breed. Dedication to his needs is equally valued.
A fairly active household suits him best, as he's not your typical "plodder-type" Labrador and thrives on activity.

An adequate size secure garden is a must-have for Soni, providing good space for exploration, play, training and lounging, especially during the initial settling-in period where we strongly advise not to walk him.

Please see our guidelines here: https://paws2freedom.org/new-rescue-dog-faqs/

His new home shouldn't be in a town setting, but away from busy street-life, so that Soni can truly flourish in a more relaxed environment.

Above all, Soni needs new people with the time, patience, love, and commitment to training him deserves.

While an only-dog home is ideal, he may also do well with a balanced female companion.

For homes with cats, we are unable to assess Soni's compatibility, hence we would favour a feline-free home for him. However, if you have previous experience with introducing your cat to a new dog, a dog-savvy cat and gradual introduction are recommended. This could take time. Our experienced canine coach offers free guidance to adopters/fosterers.

We kindly request an adoption donation of £150 (reduced rate for older dogs), not as a purchase fee for the dog, but as a contribution to support our ongoing rescue efforts. Your generosity enables us to continue making a difference in the lives of dogs in need.

Application and vetting processes apply. Please get in touch if you're interested in adopting Soni; we typically respond within 24 hours. A Meet & Greet will be arranged after the application is approved. 🐾❤️

Paws2Freedom is a UK based Dog Rescue Charity set up by a small group of dedicated dog lovers who work to change the lives of some of the most unwanted and neglected souls in this world. We are a HMRC registered Small Charity and our trustees are: Susan Sheldon, Mark Bridgeman and Gillian Warneford. We rely on kind donations and our own limited private funds to help dogs in need. Paws2Freedom's volunteers work alongside animal rescue organisations, private rescuers and animal welfare campaigners. It is our belief that as a global team we can achieve so much more.

Our team have recently introduced a new line of charity work which will make a big difference to many. We are offering some of our dogs for therapy dog work in local care homes and other organizations. This work starts in October 2018 and we are excited and proud to be able to help people through the joy of having the company of a dog for a little while. We offer advice for adopters who would like to rescue a dog from abroad. There is no charge for this; our payment is the happiness of knowing that another life has been saved. All the dogs under our rescue's wings are only re-homed after a home check. We also offer rescue back up for life, to ensure that adopters can always turn to us for help - no matter what - and that none of our dogs will end up in rescue kennels or be advertised/sold through Gumtree or other media. At present our rescue has only two kennels with an outside run which we use for behaviour rehabilitation cases. We also offer home foster within our small group of wonderful foster families. Here each dog will undergo a temperament and health assessment before he/she moves on to to their very own forever home. Paws2Freedom are desperate for dedicated foster homes UK wide. If you would like to help save lives by fostering please don’t hesitate to contact us. We would be delighted to hear from you. A great number of our rescued dogs have endured hunger, severe neglect and often unspeakable cruelty. By supporting and helping dogs from situations where all they knew was pain and suffering, we get to be part of seeing them become the beautiful dogs they were always meant to be. Some of our work is focused on helping dogs in Romania which has now become known as 'the land of death for dogs'. It's estimated that a staggering 80% of all dogs in Romania suffer starvation, neglect and abuse. We also work to help dogs here in the UK find homes and we offer support and advice. It is our mission to grow so that we can help more and more dogs to a happy and safe life. Please join us in that mission, and help us to help them. We can't change the world, but we can change the whole world for the dogs we are able to save. Every single life counts more than words could say.
