Paws2Freedom

Paws2Freedom Paws2Freedom is a UK based volunteer run dog rescue/rehoming dog charity with strict no-kill policy ♥ Please join us in that mission, and help us to help them.

Paws2Freedom is a Dog Rescue Initiative set up by a small group of dedicated dog lovers who work to change the lives of some of the most unwanted and neglected souls in this world. We are a registered Small Charity and our trustees are: Susan Sheldon, Mark Bridgeman and Jean Abbs. We rely on kind donations and our own limited private funds to help dogs in need. Paws2Freedom's volunteers work along

side animal rescue organisations, private rescuers and animal welfare campaigners. It is our belief that as a global team we can achieve so much more. We offer advice for adopters who would like to rescue a dog from abroad. There is no charge for this; our payment is the happiness of knowing that another life has been saved. All the dogs under our rescue's wings are only rehomed after a home and ID check. We also offer rescue back up for life, to ensure that adopters can always turn to us for help - no matter what - and that none of our dogs will end up in rescue kennels or be advertised/sold through Gumtree or other media. At present our rescue has only one kennel with an outside run which we use for behaviour rehabilitation cases, but we recently have connected with a wonderful dog boarding facility close by, run by an amazing dog trainer, who is supporting our work. We also offer home foster within our small group of wonderful foster families. Here each dog will undergo a temperament and health assessment before he/she moves on to to their very own forever home. A great number of our rescued dogs have endured hunger, severe neglect and often unspeakable cruelty. By supporting and helping dogs from situations where all they knew was pain and suffering, we get to be part of seeing them become the beautiful and happy dogs they were always meant to be. Some of our work is focused on helping dogs from the Bark Ark Shelter in Bosnia, we also occasionally work with one selected rescuer in Romania which has become known as 'the land of death for dogs'. Far too many dogs in overseas countries suffer starvation, neglect and unspeakable abuse. We also work to help dogs here in the UK find homes and we offer support and advice. It is our mission to grow so that we can help more and more dogs to a happy and safe life. We can't change the world, but we can change the whole world for the dogs we are able to save. Every single life counts more than words could say.

Hello… it’s me, LOGAN - remember me? 🐾

I lost my home through no fault of my ow, and for a while I wasn’t sure what would happen to me. But then I came to Ferne Animal Sanctuary and everything changed.
The lovely people here welcomed me with open arms. They give me cuddles (which I love), take me on the nicest walks and make sure I have plenty of playtime and fun. I’ve settled in really well and everyone tells me I’m a gorgeous, happy, friendly boy.

Now, I’m ready for the next chapter… a forever home of my very own. Could you be the one to make my dream come true?

With love and tail wags,
Logan💞

Up for adoption now at Ferne Animal Sanctuary. Click here to meet me: https://www.ferneanimalsanctuary.org/animal/logan/

🐾 A Note from TORI 🐾

“I’m still learning that the world can be kind…”

This week something new happened. Susan & Mark from my rescue came to visit me at the kennels. They didn’t come too close and I’m really glad about that. They stayed in my comfort zone, quiet and respectful. I watched them watching me… and for once, that didn’t feel too scary.

They saw the bond I’m building with Joy while we went for a little walk. She’s my handler, trainer and behaviourist. Joy’s working on building a relationship with me that is based on trust, without touch and using voice & reward instead, which feels safest for me right now. She lets me decide what kind of contact I’m okay with. So far? It’s been paw against hand and that was big. I sometimes dare to jump up too. But even bigger? Joy was able to gently remove a couple of little matted bits from my ears. She went slow, I stayed calm… and that was a huge first step. A moment of trust 💝

I’m also starting to get used to the kennel owner and have quietly met some of the staff, always from a safe distance, just how I like it. They don’t ask anything of me. They just let me be.

It’s still early days, and I know I’ve got a long way to go. I may never be what people call “adoptable.” Strangers still worry me a lot. Dogs do too. And change… well, I find that very hard. But the lovely rescue humans told me that’s okay. I don’t have to be anything I’m not. One day, when I’m ready, I’ll get to join the sanctuary-foster gang in a way that suits me, makes me feel safe and lets me just be… me.

⚠️ Right now, they’re raising funds for my rehabilitation stay in August and if you’d like to support me on this journey, you can do so here and will be ever so grateful. Every penny makes a big difference to my future:
https://paws2freedom.org/tori/

For now, I’m taking things one gentle moment at a time. And every moment matters. Thank you with all my paws for giving me this chance and being by my side🐾🙏
Love,
Tori 💞

🐾 WHY DOES NOBODY WANT ME? 💔

Love, from Nero 💞

Hi... I’m Nero. I’m a young Retriever boy, born on 26.07.23, and I’m told I’m very handsome (I get it from my mum Aurelia - she’s a real golden beauty, already adopted in Cornwall).

Right now, I’m in a boarding facility in Bosnia, watching other dogs get chosen and make their journey to the UK... while I’m still waiting. You see, I had a bit of bad luck - twice. My adopter had to change their plans and then my foster home couldn’t take me after all. So I missed out on this month’s travel. I was so close. My bag was packed.

I’m such a happy young soul. I love life, love people and I’ve got all the wiggly Retriever energy you'd expect from a pup like me. I just need a chance.

I dream of a home with another friendly dog, someone to show me the ropes and run around the garden with me. A place with people who understand rescue dogs like me, who are patient and kind. I will be shy and confused at first and need time, guidance and lots of love as I learn how to be part of a family.
In return, I promise to make you smile every single day with my goofy antics, my waggy tail and my big heart. I just know I’m meant to be someone’s best friend.

When I come to the UK, I’ll be fully health checked and blood tested, including for Brucella Canis, so I’ll arrive ready for my fresh start.

🐾 If you think we could be right for each other, the first step is to fill out the application form at the bottom of my page here: https://paws2freedom.org/nero/
Please… don’t scroll past. Take a moment to see me.

Love,
Nero 🐾🙏💝

🐾 A NOTE FROM TORI 🐾

Hi... it’s me, Tori 🐶

I’ve never had the chance to tell my own story before, but something’s happening lately… and I feel like maybe I can.

Since arriving at CBRC on the 19th May, I’ve been learning about a whole new way of living. One where I get to make choices. One where I’m not just surviving - I’m being understood.

I’m still very unsure of new people, they’re really scary for me, but I’ve started to build a bond with one kind human called Joy. She’s gentle, guides me and she never rushes me.

She’s teaching me how to communicate, starting with simple commands. When I get it right she gives me soft praise… and sausage treats (my absolute favourite thing in the world!).

Joy is also teaching me something called touch. Being touched by a person is also something that really frightens me, but I want to learn to trust. When Joy offers her flat hand near the gate, I get to decide - do I want to lean in and be touched or not? And guess what… I did. Just a tiny bit. I pressed into the fence and let her stroke my fur. That was a big moment for me. Joy says trust is the key and that I’m allowed to take the lead.

Then something even bigger happened about a week later…
I went for my first walk outside the kennels!!! Not just any walk, it was the first one I’ve done in a very long time without a muzzle. It was just Joy, me and another nice human named Naomi who kept her distance and pretended not to notice me (which helped me feel safe). I was a little nervous at first, with my tail tucked, but we walked through long grass where I could hide if I needed to. On the way home I even stopped to sniff a few scents. Joy said it was a good first walk. I think so too.

There’s still a very long way to go for me. Healing and building trust take time. But I’m starting to believe I might get there, to a place where I can either find a home of my own or live peacefully with the sanctuary gang at Paws2Freedom.

🎉 Because of YOUR support, I’ve already come so far!

🐾 By bidding in my auction, buying tickets to my little lottery and during the local pub quiz event...
You’ve helped raise £1810.45 for me. Paws2Freedom paid for my time here in May, and June is also paid. Which leaves £778.45 in the pot for me to pay for my July stay at CBRC and maybe a few little treats for me too.

🐾 I still need help for my ongoing care and training at CBRC which will be longer term, and eventually vet costs too.
If you'd like to keep walking this journey with me, you can donate via this link here:

https://paws2freedom.org/tori/

or direct to

PayPal [email protected] with ref. TORI,

Our lovely Jean will log your donation on my spreadsheet so it can be put aside for me and we will update on here from time to time.

Thank you for helping me discover the power of choice, trust and the tiniest touch. This is my chance to become a happier girl!

Love,
Tori 💞🙏🐾🌻

MAXI FOR ADOPTION IN CORNWALL/DEVON

🐾 From Maxi, With Love: This is My Story

Hello, I'm Maxi! 👋 I’m a very petite, young, clever and playful Border Collie x Kelpie girl, and very cute, if I may say so myself. If you’re looking for a best friend who’s full of energy, affection and super smart, then I might just be your girl! 💖

I've been lucky to be loved, but my humans realised that I need more time, energy and adventure than they can give me. It was a big decision, but they want the very best for me - a forever home where I can truly thrive, explore and be my joyful, bouncy self every day. 💛

I was born in October 2023 and I’ve learned a lot already in my young life, things like sit, recall and even how to behave a bit better on a lead (well, mostly... I can still pull quite a bit!).

I LOVE other dogs, playing chase, learning new tricks and zooming around the garden like I own the place.

I am house-trained and pretty clean, but I don’t like going out in the rain and can have a little accident then if you don’t remind me.

I’m still young, so I get a bit excited and forget my manners sometimes... but hey, I’m learning!

I haven’t spent much time on my own and I’m still figuring out how to cope when my humans aren’t around. Once, when I had free run of the house, I may have redecorated some cushions… and when left in my crate, I’ve sometimes chewed up my bedding. I just get a bit worried, that’s all. With gentle guidance and a bit of routine, I know I can get there!

I’ve had all my vaccinations, including kennel cough and I’m up to date on flea and worm treatments. I’ve not been spayed yet. My next season is due any week now and my future family will need to get me spayed a few months afterwards.

True to my Collie and Kelpie roots, I used to get a bit too excited by passing cars, but my current humans have been helping me work through it and I’m getting much better! A little reminder or two and I’m back to walking nicely. I just need someone patient who understands me.

I can be a bit full-on for small humans (I’m not mean, just a whirlwind!), so I'd prefer older kids (10+) if there are any.

Cats… not sure if I can be their bestie...I did meet a cat once who didn’t run and just stood her ground. I gave her a sniff and was pretty polite, really! But… if a cat runs, I’ll probably think it’s a fun game and want to chase. Sooo… maybe not the best housemate for a speedy feline. 😅

I’m looking for a home that’s got space, plenty of time and affection to give me, with people who love being out and about. I’d thrive with folks who understand lively young working breeds like me.

One of the lovely humans on the Paws2Freedom team met me recently and totally fell for me (I mean… who wouldn’t?). I was super friendly and totally enthusiastic. I just need someone with time, patience and a bit of know-how to help me fine-tune my manners, work on my impulse control and guide me as I keep learning. Deal?

For now, I’m still living with my current lovely family until the perfect home comes along.
If you’ve got time to train me, play with me and cuddle up after all that fun... I’ll be the most loyal, loving shadow you could ever wish for.

I don’t have my very own page just yet (I’m the new kid on the block!), but if you think we could be a perfect match, please fill in the adoption application at the bottom of this page:
