Dogs fearful of fireworks?
In the past we have given the dogs venison necks to chew that have helped calm them.
Last year we added in Taiko drums with good effect. Apparently the irregular beats disguise the sounds of the fireworks.

Important announcement...

Sadly, Utterly Rawsome has ceased trading. We have been unable to obtain ingredients of sufficient quality and quantity reliably each week for production; this has made fulfilling our many customer orders very challenging.

We are hoping to re-organise the business in some form to re-launch in a new form in 2024.

We would like to give our thanks to the hundreds of loyal customers and independent retailers who have travelled this journey with us over the last seven years. We wish you and your wonderful canine companions all the very best for the future.

First day of autumn, and here in the New Forest (and across the UK) deer are travelling to the annual rut.

Which means they will be crossing roads to get to where they need to be. Here at Utterly Rawsome, we love deer (even though, of course, we use them in our products), but accidents on our roads cause needless death and injury to deer and ourselves. A Fallow buck can weigh over 90kg (like the big boy in the image below) - which could mean a serious accident to all involved.

The best estimate is each year there are 74,000 road accidents involving deer. That's a lot of trauma.

Please watch out when driving now that the nights are drawing in.

Autumn brings a spike in deer vehicle collisions. Learning where to watch out for deer on the road where you live can help reduce your risk.

The DHL message that sends dread down your spine...

Worried your dog's food will spoil due to the delayed delivery?

Fear not.

We've just received back a delayed shipment today (Friday - pictured) via DHL. The customer was unable to receive this due to going on holiday. This had been out of the freezer since Tuesday, and it was still cold to the touch.

Our Woolcool insulation is designed to keep frozen products at an acceptable temperature for at least 24 hours. In this case the food was fine after 96 hours!

Our guidelines are: If it remains below +8C and/or is cold to the touch, it's fine to re-freeze. If you are concerned about a delivery please contact us.

Our own dogs will be eating these packs and we will be replacing the customer's order when she gets back from her holiday.

Controversial post warning - not suitable for those of a nervous disposition.

Here at Utterly Rawsome we are focussed on the very best of everything for our canine companions.

That's why we want to make every dog owner aware of the human scum who run dog fertility clinics such as the "gentleman" in this image, who actively promotes the artificial breeding of dogs who cannot be bred naturally, due to the significant health issues that they have. Add that to the illegal cropping of ears and tails that they actively endorse (and often carry out), they are a scum that needs a serious dose of bleach to be removed from our industry. This guy treats this as a "side hustle". No qualifications, and the best interests of the dogs are NOT the first thought on their minds each morning. These outfits often stock raw food as well (another "side hustle" presumably).

Well, they will never stock Utterly Rawsome.

You’re ready to make the switch to raw…but is your dog?
Our best advice is be led by the dog in front of you. There are many complicated guides that seem to insist you introduce different foods at different stages of the transition. However, all of our dogs, adults and puppies have been moved over “cold turkey”. We finished feeding kibble one day and started raw the next. We did however take care with offal and bones. Offal and heart can sometimes be a bit too rich for dogs that are not used to them. Bones likewise, can sometimes be problematic and difficult to digest at first.

We suggest using a common sense approach to introducing one protein source at a time. Feed it for a few days to see if your dog has an intolerance to it. If all is well, add in the next protein. Many guides will suggest introducing white meats first, followed by the richer red meats. We can’t say for sure how any dog is going to respond to a new diet as they are all individuals.
So feed the dog in front of you and don’t rush things.

Excellent for DIY. These are chunks so that you can feed as is, to encourage chewing to aid dental health or cut to your required size.

With things really heating up this week, it’s important to know the warning signs of heatstroke in your dog….

⚠️Heavy panting and difficulty breathing.
⚠️Excessively drooling.
⚠️The dog appears lethargic, drowsy or uncoordinated.
⚠️Dry or sticky gums
⚠️Abnormal gum colour
⚠️Collapsed or vomiting

Look out for the signs, and remember to avoid walks during the middle of the day

Put simply, dogs are carnivores, and their gut is designed to process protein. Humans are omnivores, and our gut can process carbohydrates more efficiently than dogs can. Kibble contains a lot of carbohydrate and often a dog’s gut will convert carbohydrate into fat, which isn’t ideal.?..in our opinion, time to kiss the kibble goodbye!

One of the joys of living in the New Forest is a chance encounter with some of the other enchanting animals that make the Forest their home, like this newly hatched donkey near Beaulieu this morning 😍.
