As always at this time of year the reports of Bird Flu is coming through. Please have a think about the precautions you may need to put in place, in case they are needed.

We sell the tub trugs to use as a footbath, and a very strong DEFRA approved disinfectant to use. Covers for your runs, etc.

Happy to advise what is required, but full information on the DEFRA /APHA website.

I have three lovely bantam hens available for sale. They are at present boarded with ourselves, but the owners are looking to find a new home for them.

The existing owners inherited them when they purchased their new home, i.e. they came with the house, they didn’t choose to take them on as pets

Then open as usual from 27th December 2024 onwards.

We have around 30 lovely ISA Brown hens available, they are 21 weeks old, some have just started to lay.

So if you are looking to increase your flock before the winter sets in, or want to start up chicken keeping again after a break, please get in touch. But don’t leave it too long, as once they are gone our next batch are not available until 2025.

I had a lovely message sent to me at the weekend by a customer (who had purchased their hens from ourselves). She had entered their chickens eggs into the Chobham Agricultural Show, and they had WON 1st and 2nd PRIZE !!!!

PLEASE NOTE just so you are aware, that as from 1st October 2024 you are legally required to register with DEFRA all birds kept outdoors. This includes chickens, budgies, parrots, cockatiels, finches etc

Birds that are kept indoors at all times, with no access to outdoor spaces, are not required to be registered.

So we had this WHOPPING egg laid yesterday by one of our hens, it weighed 154g!!! - laid by a newly laying hen.😵‍💫.

Don’t forget a large egg weight is between 63g and 72g in weight. This egg is over DOUBLE the max weight of a large egg.

This evening we cracked it open😱 to see what was inside.

We of course checked the hen to make sure she is ok. But pleased to say there are no ill effects from passing such a large egg. The outer shell was very thin, so this made it easier for the hen to lay.

I can’t add the eggsiting egg opening video to this post, so will do a second post to show you all what was inside when we cracked it open.
