🐴 Farewell from Horse Cleaning - Masters of Shampoos 🌿

Dear Valued Customers and Supporters,

As we step into January 2024, we must share some bittersweet news. Horse Cleaning - Masters of Shampoos will be closing its doors, effective immediately. This farewell comes with a mix of nostalgia and deep appreciation for the journey we've shared since 2019.

Our mission was always clear: to revolutionise equine care with our innovative shampoos. Your support and trust turned this dream into a beautiful reality, for which we are eternally grateful.

The current economic landscape, however, presents challenges too great to overcome. The significant decline in average transaction value reflects the financial difficulties we all face, including the rising cost of living. Coupled with increased expenses in energy, shipping, and materials, sustaining our business without compromising our standards has become untenable.

Our founder, Sam, poured his heart and soul into Horse Cleaning, but the reality of competing with larger, well-funded brands has proved too daunting. Despite our efforts, we find ourselves at a crossroads where continuing as we are is no longer viable.

We owe a world of thanks to each of you. Your loyalty and belief in our vision have been the backbone of our success. To our Brand Ambassadors and Sponsored Riders: your dedication and belief in what we stood for have been invaluable. You've been more than just representatives; you've been part of our Horse Cleaning family.

As we say goodbye, we look back with pride and gratitude. Thank you for being an integral part of our story and for understanding as we navigate this difficult chapter.

Earlier this afternoon, we made an update to our website's Carbon neutral shipping widgets to enhance their functionality and provide further transparency regarding our commitment to reducing carbon footprints 🌍 Previously, we had a simple link that directed users to a dedicated page explaining how we achieve this. However, we have now refreshed the widget to include additional information.

The updated widget now displays the approximate volume in kilograms of shipping emissions that have been eliminated from our processed order deliveries ♻️ This data will be refreshed every 30 days, allowing customers to track our progress. To help users better comprehend this metric, we have also included a comparison to the number of miles driven by a car 🚗 This visual representation helps to illustrate the impact of our efforts more effectively 😀

Recently we run a poll on shipment tracking and asked what the preference was: email updates or tracking portals?

The feedback was an overwhelming support for order tracking portals so with this in mind, we have returned our tracking portal 😎 It was removed from service just shy of approx. 12 months ago due to lack of use from customers, however, with the recent poll results there was clear suggestion of a change in direction back towards shipping portals and so we have delivered 😉

Customers will still receive email updates as orders progress through our sales process with tracking links etc.. and you can still see the order updates within the 'Order thank you page' via 'My Account' section on our website and now via the relaunched shipping portal with the new links on the website under 'Track Order Status' 🙂

Are the equestrian businesses you purchase from aware of their data protection obligations? It's possible many are not complying when processing your personal information!

Under the Data Protection Act 2018, organisations and sole traders processing personal information are required to pay a data protection fee to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) unless they are exempt.

In this blog post we cover in detail the reason why you should be checking to see if a business or seller is registered with the ICO and if they are not on the ICO register, you should consider the risk of them holding and processing your personal information!

Following yesterdays post on the new Amazon listings, we have also done the same with Ebay UK where you can now find a small selection of our product's on this marketplace too 🙂

Again there is a bit of a premium on top to offset the eBay fees, so for our existing customers shopping via our website is still the best method 😉

Like Amazon the expectations for this new platform are to gain exposure from a new set of eBay customers, and hopefully, in time, they will come over to our website for the best deals; the intention is the listings will extend our brand to new customers who are not aware of HC 😎

We have been asked why we are not on Amazon a fair few times, and honestly, it was just a case of it being so difficult to get set up on the platform as a manufacturer!

There are so many steps you have to go through to register a brand, trademark verification, business verification, individual product barcodes (let's not talk about the registration costs for a single barcode 💸 😢), ASIN registration, and then having to work with seller-central awful UI/platform design, something akin to a website design from the '90s (clunky, constant errors with no meaning and every-little change takes 24 hrs to update) 😵‍💫

But this week, I took another stab at it and can now confirm that some of our range has been listed on the UK Amazon platform. It's only going to be a tiny trial to see how it goes for a couple of weeks since the costs to use the Amazon platform are staggering 🤯, so I did not want to send in a lot of inventory for this sales channel to potentially fail and cost us a small fortune in Amazon fees due to stock not selling on the platform.

So why are we doing it? Well, the feedback from our annual survey indicated an upwards trend of non-customers of HC only buying their shopping via Amazon due to the Prime membership etc.. and so going by this feedback, here we are, giving it a trial to see if it brings in new customers 🙂

There is a bit of a premium on top to offset the Amazon fees, so for our existing customers shopping via our website is still the best method 😉

The expectations for this new platform are to gain exposure from a new set of Amazon customers, and hopefully, in time, they will come over to our website for the best deals; the intention is the listings will extend our brand to new customers who are not aware of HC 😎
