🩼 New strain of Rabbit VHD2 🐰

A newly identified, highly virulent strain of Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (RVHD2) is spreading in parts of Europe, raising important considerations for the health of domestic rabbits in the UK.
With a high transmission rate and significant fatality risk, this new variant calls for timely awareness and updated prevention strategies among both rabbit owners and veterinary professionals.

There is a new vaccination for this disease and in the future we will make this a requirement for all rabbits boarding with us.
At present we would advise that your rabbit has this vaccination for their protection.

At present it is very difficult for vets to obtain single vials of this vaccination but we can get vials that provide cover for 40 rabbits - once opened this has to be used within 10 hours.

The cost will be £25 and must be at least 2 weeks after regular vaccination

Our vaccination clinics will be
Saturday 30th Aug (almost fully booked)
9am - 2.30pm
Saturday 20th Sep
9am - 4.30pm

One appointment per rabbit to ensure we have enough vaccinations

We saw lots of lovely rabbits today at our Yurvac vaccination clinic today. This very much pleased our lovely nurse Kate who still misses her 'Honey' (pictured a few years ago!) and she absolutely loves meeting new rabbits!

We are holding another Yurvac clinic soon led by Charlotte and Kate. If you are needing a Yurvac RHD vaccine please get in touch by emailing [email protected]

YURVAC RHD vaccines!

***In stock now***

If anybody is needing a YURVAC (RHD) vaccination for their rabbit can you please email Charlotte: [email protected]

She is trying to compile a list and will be forming a rabbit vaccination day where she will just do these vaccines on a Saturday or Sunday in August so that we can get as many local rabbits upto date with this vaccine as possible. It's so important that we keep our rabbits protected against this nasty disease

Thank you!

We need your help! And so do the rabbits, and it's desperate! ‼️🐰

We are trying to update the figure of 67,000 rabbits that need a rescue space each year.

We have been very shocked and saddened that almost half of the rescue / adoption / rehoming centres we have contacted have closed. This is terrible and the result of lack of financial support, emotional burnout and poor health.

There has been a rescue crisis in this country for too long, and it is only getting worse, with a shocking 84% of rescues saying they are finding things worse since covid.

Some key findings from the survey so far:

Most common reasons for surrendering rabbits are:

1. Lack of time
2. Financial problems
3. Children have lost interest
4. Change in circumstances

- It costs a rescue on average £201-400 to get a single rabbit ready for rehoming.

- Rabbits often wait up to 12 months for their new home.

We understand that times are tough for everyone at the moment and no one can predict a change in circumstances or financial problems. But check out our advice below to make sure you don’t contribute to the rescue crisis.

How can YOU help?

If you are thinking of adding rabbits to your family PLEASE ADOPT DON’T SHOP.

You can find an adoption centre close to you via saveafluff.co.uk

Please do your research and make sure you have the time, space and resources to commit to rabbits for the next 10 years.

And remember that adults are always responsible for the rabbits and not children. It should be a family commitment.

If you can’t adopt, please support your local rescue. Share their posts, donate, volunteer, look for their amazon wish list.

And remember, you can point people to our website and social channels to help them get the right advice!
