Puppy class
Puppy class back tonight 🎉🐾❤️
Chase’s run
Chase in the starters cup semi final at kci yesterday. Complete with sound as apparently the live stream muted during our run. So pleased with him 🌟🐾
Scentwork
We are out of office from Tuesday August 6th until Monday August 12th.
All enquires will be answered when we return.
In the meantime enjoy watching Islay at scentwork class last Thursday finding gun oil .
Puppy training
Making use of the environment and playing games on the “walk”
Puppy training
Fudge started drop training as soon as she came home. As she’s a cocker spaniel genetically we knew she’d be more likely to pick everything up in her mouth. The job they are bred to do who wants a working cocker that drops a bird half way back so they also want to keep hold of items .
Now this was a guess on our part determined by her genetics . But even with this Fudge is one of those pups who has this in spades and despite this has given us some scares.
But it’s really important we continue with her training and that we don’t immediately snatch things away from her as this will ultimately make her worse and destroy our recall training.
So we pick our battles today on her outing she picked up this pine cone (it’s big enough she’s not in immediate danger of swallowing it ) so we consolidate our drop training . And she loses interest quickly in it ❤️🐾
Puppy training
One of the rewards we use in our training is food and we can use quite a lot of it in the beginning .
We show you how to progress and stretch out the gaps between the rewards.
The timescale for this is dog and distraction dependent . Here Fudge is working for longer between rewards (there’s 5 weeks between these videos )
And she doesn’t always work for long periods for her reward we mix it up
Puppy training
Puppy training rewarding good choices , choosing a suitable environment with the correct level distraction for your pup.
Just in this short session there are foundations being built for future behaviours .
Can you name them all ? Pop them in the comments below
Luna winning run
I managed to film Luna’s awesome winning run on the allsorts course today at the show
12 weeks first high street walk
At 12 weeks old this is Fudge’s first high street walk.
A bit distracted by her favourite person behind the camera so a bit of a change of filming angle.
There’s lots of foundations you can do prior to lead walking training that helps set the puppy up for success.
Don’t wait until you have a struggle #preventionbetterthancure
The whole session start to picking her up was no more than 2 minutes .
Planned short sessions set pups up for success and promote the good behaviours we would like them to have
Disney hoopers
Disney enjoyed her hoopers private lesson today despite it being a little damp

Puppy Training - we can utilise a young puppies nature instincts and reward the behaviours they are already doing to give it more strength - ready for when adolescence arrives.
Be proactive in your puppy training The important lessons don’t aways take place within a formal training session. Everything is a learning opportunity for puppies. At some point it will be necessary to take something from her so we lay the foundations that hands coming towards her are a positive thing as they bring high value chicken rewards and she can still go back to her chew. #puppytraining
Never too early to start a puppy’s education . They are learning all the time and it’s a case of arranging the environment and cause and effect to reward simple behaviours we want for later. Rewards are all around us they don’t always have to be food. Can you see what is wanted here ? Can you see what puppy’s reward is ? It’s a great idea to get a good trainer on board early as there’s so much you can be doing before they are old enough for puppy classes that will make everything else so much easier . #puppytrainingtips #apdtuk
Hoopers
Disney’s confidence grows and grows 🌟 we had a faster patterdale today and 👀 at that distance handling 🎉🐾
Nottingham agility show
Back from the long weekend , we were lucky with the weather and the dogs ran nicely for the children just little bits to work on.
A good start to the ykc qualifiers for 2024 season
A snippet of the final class of the hoopers block
We were a couple short tonight with holidays . We look forward to seeing everyone in the follow on class where we will further progress every team 🥰
Seaton scentwork class
The first outdoor class of the year
As we hopefully move towards better weather outside 1-1 for dog sports will be available.
So if you have a dog that needs more obstacle independence /understanding /value .
Or a sensitive or reactive dog that can’t cope with group sessions or has a particular struggle .
A more dog training centred approach to dog sports is useful for distance handling or if your dog is super fast and you just can’t keep up. Or for sensitive/reactive dogs.
I also find this approach can produce super fast confident dogs in breeds that aren’t necessarily known for their speed in dog sports.
