While most dogs may *attempt* to swim, some dogs have physical traits that make swimming a challenge. For example, flat-faced breeds can easily get water up their nose, putting them at risk of drowning. Dogs with large chests or a short leg/long body combo (we’re looking at you, Dachshunds), may struggle to stay afloat in water. And some dogs’ coats make it difficult to swim or fail to keep them warm in chilly water.

If you’re around water and unsure of your pup’s swimming abilities, keep a close eye on them and consider using a doggie life vest.

Unfold The Secrets of Your Dog’s DNA

With millions of mixed-breed dog owners in the UK, having access to reliable breed ancestry information can be critical for the nutrition, training, and overall healthcare of our furry family members. Understanding the breeds that make up your dog enables much more targeted care and in some cases even provides lifesaving information. Most people think they can tell the breeds in their dog by simply looking at his or her physical characteristics (or phenotype). That’s simply not the case. Studies have shown that visual identification even by professionals is only accurate about 25% of the time – that means they’re incorrect 75% of the time! And when results come back with breeds you can’t "see?” Look at the dog’s behavior. Many times the way the traits are being expressed are more behavioral than visual.

Our dogs can’t talk to tell us what may be going on inside, but their DNA can. Wisdom Panel tests use more than 1800 markers and draws from a 15,000+ sample database of over 350 breeds for a 90%+ accuracy rating. To date, the tests have been used by more than 1,100,000 pet parents to find out their dog’s unique genetic health make-up and breed heritage!
