Another odd request: I'm looking for some off cuts of AstroTurf. I need scrap bits to wrap perches for birds like corvids, owls, BoPs and larger bits (about 1m x 1m) to put under perches. If you've got any unwanted, odd bits please let me know. Thank you as always

Last Sunday was our first dog show since covid forced us to close and what a success that was. So many awesome dogs with their equally fabulous owners. My sincere thanks to Charlotte Sinclair for organising the day and judging, to for sorting the entries and judging, to for running the cake and coffee stall and for managing the soft toy stall and to for all her wonderful baking
Charlotte will be adding a reel when she wakes up so hang on for the pixs :)

Early start this morning with another deer RTA on the A1033. This time east of Ottringham. Humberside Police are now attending so I can load the deer safely without risk to me, passing traffic and the sweet little fawn. The fawn is currently in shock. I'm not even going to try to assess the injuries till we are all in a safe place.

Don't forget our dog show is this Sunday! Registration will begin at around 10am with the show starting at 11am. Classes are £2 each and all winners will be entered into best in show. The venue is indoors and very large and airy so no need to worry about dogs being out in the sun either (or worrying about thunderstorms.)
Cash is preferred but we will have card machines if needed.

Sooty, poor soul, has had such a bad time. First, he fell down a chimney and got stuck.
No one knows how long he was there, but fortunately, work was being done on the house, and the chimney sweep arrived and got to work. Unluckily, the sweep just didn’t see Sooty and so shovelled him up with all rubbish from the chimney and dumped the whole lot into a skip where he would certainly have died if it wasn’t for the carpenter who came to the house the following day.
Passing the skip on his way in, he heard some squeaking noises, and after a bit of foraging found a very bedraggled, soot encrusted bird.
By the time Sooty arrived at Ren’s he was in a fighting mood and went for me with everything he had got, claws, beak, and full-on attitude.
My main concern was how dehydrated he was and whether he had a beak full of soot. It was a struggle to open his beak. He fought me every inch of the way, but when I got it open – what a sight. His mouth was rammed full of that vile black powder.
I wetted a small paintbrush and started to brush the soot out. Sooty stopped fighting me immediately and stood with his beak wide open, cheering me on. Even when I thought I’d got the lot out he just stood there gaping at me until I found the bit I’d missed.
Sooty had a drink and a meal and settled down for the night. He stayed in our clinic for a few days before being moving on, first to an outside cage where he learnt to use his wings and feed himself, and then to one of our large aviaries for flight practice and muscle building, where he will stay until its time for him to go back to the wild.

Hopefully more prosecutions to come.

Ren’s Rescue is a charming, small, local charity that has been running since 2014. Our mission is to provide shelter to animals in need when they have nowhere else to turn.

Since Ren’s began we have successfully rehomed hundreds of animals to loving families. We offer sanctuary to a multitude of species including cats, dogs, chickens, rabbits, hedgehogs, pigs and many more. We take in animals found by the public, abused ex-farm animals, referrals from local vets, and even some from other rescue centres who can no longer cope. We also take in orphaned, terminally ill, and ‘badly behaved’ animals that nobody else wants. Most of the animals we take in would have sadly been killed if we didn’t save them – so we really are their last resort. Even if we decide that an animal cannot be appropriately rehomed they will have a forever home with us.

We have 0 paid staff and are run 100% by volunteers, who work simply for the love of animals.
