Saying Goodbye to Ren

It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I share the news that Ren, the dog who this rescue was named after, has passed away. Ren has been with us from the very beginning, and his loss feels like the end of an era. I’m heartbroken, and part of me feels like it’s time to close it all down.

His passing comes at a time when the hospital is facing very real financial challenges. Income from our shops and donations have dropped significantly, and during the winter months ahead, I must decide if I can continue.

What keeps me going is the thought of the thousands of animals we’ve helped over the years. More than 1,000 last year alone. I keep thinking about them and how much they still need us. Without us, where would they go?

If you can support us during this uncertain time, we would be so grateful. Every donation makes us more financially stable and helps us continue this important work. It means I can focus on animal care rather than fund-raising.

Athough money is important, I’d also like to take this time to celebrate Ren’s life with you, so if you have any stories or photos of him that you’d like to share, please post them here.

This week, the fire brigade rescued another bird caught in discarded fishing wire. The heron will survive thanks to them, the finder, the park rangers, Haven Vet Farm & Equine, and us. This is the third bird we've taken in from East Park this month that has been caught in fishing line and those are just the ones we get to hear off.
It has got to stop.
But it's so hard for the rangers to police.
Does anyone know how other authorities have tackled this issue?

These two were found bound together and being attacked by a crow. Its quiet common for pigeons to get tangled up in thread but somehow these two were locked together. The thread around the baby's chest was tight enough to leave a dent and to add to her woes she had splayed legs so couldnt stand. Mum is fine and baby is on the road to recovery. We will.do all we can to make sure she makes it

Morning all, Charlotte here checking in from the Alton Towers running festival. Today is race 10 of my fundraising challenge to raise £1000 for Ren's. Unfortunately I am nowhere near the target, so thanks to a local running company who have gifted me some free races I will now be extending this challenge until the end of the year. Please, please help me reach the target, it will mean the fox pens will be refurbished and well as some other jobs can be done to make sure we can help as many animals as possible. Thank you.

Charlotte, Leah and little Misty the Jug are back collecting at Morrisons today. After our last collection had to be cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control, we are hoping to have a really successful day. We have a couple of Loose Change jars available to collect or swap for full ones.

Fox-wise, it's been a busy week with five calls for help and/or advice. This is William, he and another younger fox were caught up in football netting. They managed to tear the netting to free themselves from the main net but were so entangled with each other that they couldn't move. We cut them free and rushed them to our fab vets, Haven Vet Farm & Equine. Sadly the younger fox had to be put to sleep due to the severity of her injuries but after 3 days of rest and pain relief, we were able to release William back to his home.
We are currently upgrading our five large animal pens, which will cost us about £250 per pen. They need tiling inside and out and a better water drainage system installed. We'd be so grateful if you could donate towards the cost. We know it's going to be an expensive winter, but with your help and the help of our wondeful volunteers, we should have the place ready for the spring rush.

Thanks to everyone involved in helping the swan that crash-landed at the co-op in Thorngumbald. We were able to release him back to the wild, yesterday morning which gave Angi Beckett her first opportunity to be involved in catching and releasing a swan. and she did great. So we now have two volunteers who can assist me with handling swans.

Two rescue attempts today. First to an elderly fox found collapsed in East Park. She had lost most of her incisors so hadn't been able to eat and was very thin. Sadly she needed to be PTS. Thanks to the vets at both now and Haven Vet Farm & Equine for doing their best to help her.
Angi drove over to help a duck with a broken leg at Sand Le Mere caravan park. However as the duck can still fly she had no luck. A few of the park residents will monior her (the duck not Angi)and contact us. Hopefully we will get her help.

Ren’s Rescue is a charming, small, local charity that has been running since 2014. Our mission is to provide shelter to animals in need when they have nowhere else to turn.

Since Ren’s began we have successfully rehomed hundreds of animals to loving families. We offer sanctuary to a multitude of species including cats, dogs, chickens, rabbits, hedgehogs, pigs and many more. We take in animals found by the public, abused ex-farm animals, referrals from local vets, and even some from other rescue centres who can no longer cope. We also take in orphaned, terminally ill, and ‘badly behaved’ animals that nobody else wants. Most of the animals we take in would have sadly been killed if we didn’t save them – so we really are their last resort. Even if we decide that an animal cannot be appropriately rehomed they will have a forever home with us.

We have 0 paid staff and are run 100% by volunteers, who work simply for the love of animals.
