Nine-Year-Old Travis Is Walking for Wildlife!

Travis, one of our youngest and most dedicated supporters, is on a mission to walk 80 km to raise funds for Ren’s Wildlife Hospital. Every week, he heads out with his mum, stepdad, and their dog Monty 🐕 to clock up more kilometres.

Travis has completed 27.5 km so far and plans to tackle another 10 km this weekend.

We’re so proud of his amazing efforts and grateful for his support! If you’d like to sponsor Travis or learn more about his fundraiser, click here:

Thank you, Travis, for being such a wonderful advocate for wildlife!

My name is Travis and I am 9 years old. I'm raising money in aid of Ren's Rescue… Travis Rutter needs your support for Walking 80km for Rens Wildlife Hospital

Bit of a random one but does anyone have a functioning water butt with lid, tap, stand and connectors they no longer need. Would find a happy home with us at the Hospital :)

If you are bringing a sick or injured animal to us today please be so careful. Not only is there black ice but several back roads are flooding.

⚠️ Due to the recent weather conditions there is a possibility of black ice on the roads and pavements today.
Black ice is particularly dangerous since it can appear almost invisible.

Please take care on your morning commute.

2025 will be challenging
As you already know we are concerned about our future. We are determined to keep going, but the level of help we will be able to provide directly depends on the support we receive, and that support will make the difference between us helping 100 and 1000+ animals in 2025
How to help part 1! CHARITY SHOPS
These have been a great source of income but are now in decline due to a lack of volunteers and good-quality donations. If we can get these back on track we will have enough income to pay the day-to-day bills. So can you help by volunteering or donating good-quality clothing and bric-a-brac?
Volunteer Opportunities:
🌟 Front of House: Welcome customers, manage sales, and provide a friendly face.
🌟 Back of House: Sort, steam, and price donations to keep things running smoothly.
Where:
📍 Prospect Street
📍 Holderness Road
When:
🕘 Morning shifts: 9:00 – 12:30
🕐 Afternoon shifts: 12:30 – 4:00
Why Volunteer?
💚 Meet new people and make new friends
💚 Rebuild social confidence in a supportive environment.
💚 Gain new skills and a sense of purpose.
💚 Help ensure we can continue saving wildlife in our community.
Even a small amount of your time can make a huge difference. Together, we can rebuild and ensure every animal in need has a chance.
Donations.
We are always looking for good-quality, clean clothing and bric-a-brac. Donations can be left at the rescue in Keyingham or at either of our shops.
📩 Message us on Facebook, call 07496 674238, or pop into one of our shops to chat.

Best wishes to you all for 2025! Over the last few days, I've done a lot of thinking about how the Hospital can continue in 2025, and I'll be posting about that regularly over the next few days or weeks! One thing we will really need is more volunteers. So, as you write down your New Year's Resolutions for the coming year, can you add a half-day a week for Ren's? Thank you

A lovely quiet Christmas Day with only two call-outs, a pigeon and a hedgehog. So now onto Boxing Day. 26th December tends to be a busy one as lots of people are out and about walking off the excesses of yesterday and when people are out they find injured, sick and orphaned wildlife. So today, I will be at the Hospital, waiting for your calls. Please transport the animal to us if you can, as we are a little low on drivers today, particularly from Hull.

Thank you all for your amazing support. You are stars

So many swans. Four admissions in three days. These three will make it but the fourth (who is in high care) has a hard road to recovery. They love their floating swan pellets and we are always short on them. If you've anything left over after Christmas they'd so appreciate an extra tub.

Saying Goodbye to Ren

It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I share the news that Ren, the dog who this rescue was named after, has passed away. Ren has been with us from the very beginning, and his loss feels like the end of an era. I’m heartbroken, and part of me feels like it’s time to close it all down.

His passing comes at a time when the hospital is facing very real financial challenges. Income from our shops and donations have dropped significantly, and during the winter months ahead, I must decide if I can continue.

What keeps me going is the thought of the thousands of animals we’ve helped over the years. More than 1,000 last year alone. I keep thinking about them and how much they still need us. Without us, where would they go?

If you can support us during this uncertain time, we would be so grateful. Every donation makes us more financially stable and helps us continue this important work. It means I can focus on animal care rather than fund-raising.

Athough money is important, I’d also like to take this time to celebrate Ren’s life with you, so if you have any stories or photos of him that you’d like to share, please post them here.

This week, the fire brigade rescued another bird caught in discarded fishing wire. The heron will survive thanks to them, the finder, the park rangers, Haven Vet Farm & Equine, and us. This is the third bird we've taken in from East Park this month that has been caught in fishing line and those are just the ones we get to hear off.
It has got to stop.
But it's so hard for the rangers to police.
Does anyone know how other authorities have tackled this issue?

These two were found bound together and being attacked by a crow. Its quiet common for pigeons to get tangled up in thread but somehow these two were locked together. The thread around the baby's chest was tight enough to leave a dent and to add to her woes she had splayed legs so couldnt stand. Mum is fine and baby is on the road to recovery. We will.do all we can to make sure she makes it

Ren’s Rescue is a charming, small, local charity that has been running since 2014. Our mission is to provide shelter to animals in need when they have nowhere else to turn.

Since Ren’s began we have successfully rehomed hundreds of animals to loving families. We offer sanctuary to a multitude of species including cats, dogs, chickens, rabbits, hedgehogs, pigs and many more. We take in animals found by the public, abused ex-farm animals, referrals from local vets, and even some from other rescue centres who can no longer cope. We also take in orphaned, terminally ill, and ‘badly behaved’ animals that nobody else wants. Most of the animals we take in would have sadly been killed if we didn’t save them – so we really are their last resort. Even if we decide that an animal cannot be appropriately rehomed they will have a forever home with us.

We have 0 paid staff and are run 100% by volunteers, who work simply for the love of animals.
