Rescued Animals in Need RAIN was born more than 45 years ago when a group of ladies in the Green Street Green area of Kent decided to do something to help local animals in need.

Charity number 800145 Rescued Animals in Need Registered charity number 800145

Who Are We? Rescued Animals in Need is made up of a group of hard working volunteers in the Sevenoaks area. Our main aim is to rescue, rehabilitate and then RE-HOME cats and kittens, and to provide any help that is needed in terms of general care and veterinary treatment. Please note we work with cats and kittens only.

We don't have our own premises as we are a small, volunteer led charity. We use a boarding cattery for our rescued animals and for this reason we are limited at any one time as to how many animals we can manage. We can only assist with re-homeable cats and kittens. What Area Does RAIN Cover? Although only a small charity, Rescued Animals in Need covers a wide area south-east of London and includes: Bromley and surrounds, Orpington area, Sevenoaks, Edenbridge, Tonbridge, West Malling, Kings Hill, Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone, Westerham and surrounds, Biggin Hill and surrounds. When Animals are Rescued by RAIN

As soon as animals come into RAIN's care they are taken to a Veterinary Surgeon where they receive any necessary attention. All animals are vaccinated and neutered, if this has not already been done, and are routinely treated for worms and fleas. On veterinary advice, any cats felt to be at risk are blood-tested for certain diseases. Animals are then settled into the boarding cattery that RAIN uses and cared for whilst a permanent home is sought for them. Homes are sought for the animals through advertising, in local papers and through this website. A Brief History

Rescued Animals in Need was born nearly forty years ago when a group of ladies in the Green Street Green area of Kent decided to do something to help local animals in need. With a good deal of hard work and dedication, they became a Registered Charity in 1986

How Animals Come to RAIN

Animals find their way to RAIN for all kinds of reasons. They are found straying; are left behind at the vets after an accident; are either left in a house or locked out of it when people move away; need new homes when elderly people die or move into residential care; or are unwanted due to changes in family circumstances. As RAIN does not have its own Sanctuary a boarding cattery is used. For this reason RAIN can only deal with limited numbers of cats and kittens at any one time and can only take in animals that are re-homeable. Our Neutering Programme

Unfortunately there are enormous numbers of unwanted cats in this country at the moment, despite the best efforts of Animal Welfare Organisations. RAIN therefore neuters all cats before re-homing. The mothers, and if possible fathers, of all kittens taken in for re-homing are also neutered. Reduced cost neutering is also available in cases of need and RAIN has assisted in the neutering of large numbers of cats within problem areas. In one instance this involved a colony of more than seventy cats. Do you need help with neutering your pet ? If you are struggling with neutering costs for your cat or dog RAIN can help. Please contact us. Our Foster carers

Foster families help in different ways either with kittens or mothers and kittens. Rain's Links to the Community and Other Agencies

RAIN works with local agencies when necessary. For example, social workers and mental health teams and housing associations, in addition to national and local animal welfare organisations. Talks about the work of the charity are sometimes given to local groups or clubs.

A message from the RAIN rehoming team:

We take great care when rehoming our kittens. We speak to prospective new owners to ensure they fully understand the implications of having a new fur baby. We also check how close to main/busy roads you live.

Sadly, figures from PetPlan insurance company show that in the UK around 630 cats are killed every day on our roads. The average age of these cats is seven months to two years.

We do not have a 'policy' as some other charities to state we will not home a cat to you if you live directly on a road but we may suggest that you re-think your choice to adopt a young kitten.

We therefore ask you please to respect our view if we suggest maybe an older cat or a more 'street wise' kitty would be better suited in your home.

Often the kittens that have come into our care have not had the best of starts in life and we are completely committed to finding them the very best homes we can.

We understand that, regretfully, cats do sometimes pay with their lives for the freedom they have but we do our best to provide them with the safest environment possible.

We really hope you understand our position. Thank you.

UPDATE! CHARLIE IS NOW RESERVED! BRILLIANT NEWS.

CHARLIE is our longest resident. He is a gorgeous, large 5 year old tabby and white boy. He has a lovely personality but doesn't like other cats. He is a total people cat! Unless you are a vet, then he's not too keen!

He is looking for a new home where he will be treated like a King! He would be best suited to a family with experience of cats and who will respect and fulfil his demands! A typical cat who enjoys fuss, food and a comfortable bed with low stress in his life.

Charlie is available for homing before Christmas or he can be reserved for homing after the festive season.

Please get in touch if you think you could offer him a home.

If you think you could be Charlie's new parent then please visit our website www.rain.org.uk and complete our simple contact form and we will get back to you.

Are you or anyone you know thinking of bringing a kitten or two into your home?

We are desperate to get the message across to people to ADOPT INSTEAD OF SHOP.

Buying a kitten online encourages people to breed their cats with the sole intention of making a profit. These kittens may not have had all the veterinary care they should of received.

RAIN has late litters of kittens who will soon be looking for new homes - SO PLEASE THINK OF CONTACTING US FIRST. Please spread the word and encourage people to contact us if you know anyone looking for new fur babies.

Our kittens will have had full veterinary checks, been fed high quality kitten food, will have received their vaccinations, and be up to date with antiparasitic treatment. RAIN will also help with neutering and microchipping costs when they are old enough.

Visit our website www.rain.org.uk to find out about all the cats currently in our care, and please ADOPT instead of SHOP when looking for a new kitten.

Pictures of Casper in his new home.

Casper has been in his new home for just over a month now and is well and truly settled. His new owners say: "It seems as if Casper has been with us forever! He is ruling the house and he loves our grandchildren."

We love the picture of him hunting for snacks in the cupboard!

News from the RAIN animal welfare team - November

* Our neutering programme continues. We have been working alongside a wonderful social worker who has facilitated the neutering of cats in her area.
* We are also helping with the neutering of semi-feral cats. This again is so important in order to decrease the population of cats without homes.
* So far for the November/December period: 31 cats and 3 dog neuterings have been authorised.
* We have neutered and microchipped a young male cat found wandering in the grounds of a school looking for food. A teacher managed to catch him but sadly he didn't have a microchip. She kindly took him home to foster him whilst she looked for his owner. Unfortunately, no-one came forward. Caring for him she fell in love with him and decided to keep him!
* We have taken into our care two severely underweight mother cats and their kittens. It is so often the case that when food is scarce nursing mother cats put all their energy into providing for their kittens at great cost to themselves. The Mums are now being carefully fed with high quality food, little and often and are doing really well in foster homes.
* We have also taken in a young brother and sister pair, 4 months old, and a 6 month old male from the same address. All were unwanted.
* We are currently helping a lady who, due to a bereavement in the family has taken in a group of cats which she is unable to keep in the long-term. We are providing food and are helping her to rehome them.
* Rehoming continues from our cattery and from our foster homes which is wonderful news. We do, however, still have some gorgeous adult cats and youngsters currently looking for their forever homes.

Visit our website www.rain.org.uk to find out more about how you can give the cats currently in our care, a loving new home.
