Rescued Animals in Need RAIN was born more than 45 years ago when a group of ladies in the Green Street Green area of Kent decided to do something to help local animals in need.

Charity number 800145 Rescued Animals in Need Registered charity number 800145

Who Are We? Rescued Animals in Need is made up of a group of hard working volunteers in the Sevenoaks area. Our main aim is to rescue, rehabilitate and then RE-HOME cats and kittens, and to provide any help that is needed in terms of general care and veterinary treatment. Please note we work with cats and kittens only.

We don't have our own premises as we are a small, volunteer led charity. We use a boarding cattery for our rescued animals and for this reason we are limited at any one time as to how many animals we can manage. We can only assist with re-homeable cats and kittens. What Area Does RAIN Cover? Although only a small charity, Rescued Animals in Need covers a wide area south-east of London and includes: Bromley and surrounds, Orpington area, Sevenoaks, Edenbridge, Tonbridge, West Malling, Kings Hill, Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone, Westerham and surrounds, Biggin Hill and surrounds. When Animals are Rescued by RAIN

As soon as animals come into RAIN's care they are taken to a Veterinary Surgeon where they receive any necessary attention. All animals are vaccinated and neutered, if this has not already been done, and are routinely treated for worms and fleas. On veterinary advice, any cats felt to be at risk are blood-tested for certain diseases. Animals are then settled into the boarding cattery that RAIN uses and cared for whilst a permanent home is sought for them. Homes are sought for the animals through advertising, in local papers and through this website. A Brief History

Rescued Animals in Need was born nearly forty years ago when a group of ladies in the Green Street Green area of Kent decided to do something to help local animals in need. With a good deal of hard work and dedication, they became a Registered Charity in 1986

How Animals Come to RAIN

Animals find their way to RAIN for all kinds of reasons. They are found straying; are left behind at the vets after an accident; are either left in a house or locked out of it when people move away; need new homes when elderly people die or move into residential care; or are unwanted due to changes in family circumstances. As RAIN does not have its own Sanctuary a boarding cattery is used. For this reason RAIN can only deal with limited numbers of cats and kittens at any one time and can only take in animals that are re-homeable. Our Neutering Programme

Unfortunately there are enormous numbers of unwanted cats in this country at the moment, despite the best efforts of Animal Welfare Organisations. RAIN therefore neuters all cats before re-homing. The mothers, and if possible fathers, of all kittens taken in for re-homing are also neutered. Reduced cost neutering is also available in cases of need and RAIN has assisted in the neutering of large numbers of cats within problem areas. In one instance this involved a colony of more than seventy cats. Do you need help with neutering your pet ? If you are struggling with neutering costs for your cat or dog RAIN can help. Please contact us. Our Foster carers

Foster families help in different ways either with kittens or mothers and kittens. Rain's Links to the Community and Other Agencies

RAIN works with local agencies when necessary. For example, social workers and mental health teams and housing associations, in addition to national and local animal welfare organisations. Talks about the work of the charity are sometimes given to local groups or clubs.

HOLLY and IVY were homed very recently and they have already settled.
Their new owner says "I can’t believe it’s only been three days - they already feel very much part of the family. Ivy is already coming out of her shell and has been happy to come for some strokes on the sofa. Holly is just so loving, and very devoted to Evie (our little girl) already."

OPAL was rehomed very recently and her new family have sent us a lovely photo with an update:

"I just wanted to update you as mum collected Opal on Friday evening and, as you can see she is already settling in really well!

"She is getting braver and now letting mum stroke her. In the photo, she is perched on the arm of the chair but has also ventures onto mum’s lap for brief spells too! She really is beautiful and we so appreciate all your help, the process was so smooth and well organised.

"Thank you again."

TINK and SMUDGE are getting on well in their new home. Their new owners sent us an update.

"I thought I’d give you an update on our adorable Tink and Smudge. They have settled in really well and we love them to bits. Smudge loves to go outside. Tink is being more sensible in the cold weather but she’s shown she knows how to use the cat flap. Mostly she just looks out. She’s very definitely a lap cat but Smudge also comes and snuggles up. They are great and give us a lot of comfort. They are such photogenic cats!"

Charlie was rehomed after Christmas. His new owners have sent some wonderful photos and an update.

"Charlie has settled in really well and is already a very affectionate cat who loves our attention. He is very good with our energetic 4 year old too! Such a lovely character, who loves exploring and finding a box or small space to climb into. He keeps me company in my office at home and randomly jumped up while I was on one of my calls to settle on my desk for some attention.

We are very pleased. He is doing so well."

The gorgeous TIGGER who was adopted last year, has just started to venture outside. He is enjoying exploring his new garden but is quick to get back inside to snuggle with his friend on a comfy bed!

Who can blame him with the January weather we have been having!

We still have a waiting list of cats due to arrive with us, all will need loving homes. Please keep an eye on our social feeds and website www.rain.org.uk and get in touch with us via our simple contact form, if you your future holds a rescued feline!

We are currently receiving lots of enquiries for kittens, but at the moment we don't have any kittens available for homing.

Although cats can breed throughout the year, the main season for kittens begins around March (as the weather warms up!) with kittens ready for homing usually at the end of April.

We will start to keep a list of potential new homes around Easter time, so please get in touch with us at that time if you are specifically looking to welcome a kitten into your home.

If this situation changes we will let you know!

Many thanks.

TINK and SMUDGE were RAIN cats who were adopted in November.

They are settling into their new home really well. Their new family has sent us lots of pictures and say:

"We are loving Tink and Smudge and are really enjoying getting to know them. We thought Tink was going to be quieter and less mischievous, but guess who jumped onto the wardrobe yesterday evening? We didn't think a cat would make that leap, but Tink did! They are definitely going to keep us on our toes, but that's great!"

We are delighted to hear that TINK and SMUDGE are doing so well.

RAIN cat Nelli was adopted at the end of November. She had had a rough start in life and although her owners say she is still timid and a bit shy she has been having lots of fun in her new home with her new feline siblings. She has started exploring outside and has been practicing her climbing with the Christmas tree!

We hope she has now found a suitable substitute now the tree is away for another year!

A lovely rehoming story. Just visit our website to see the cats currently looking for new homes.

We have had a fantastic start to 2025!

In the last week, all of these beautiful cats have either been reserved, or already gone off to their new homes! We really hope the rest of the year is as successful.

We have plenty of cats waiting to come into our cattery. Keep a look out for our posts on Facebook and on our website www.rain.org.uk. We will be starting to promote them all very soon!

This is Bonnie (formerly known as Catty) who was rehomed in November.

Her new owners have sent us an update. They say "Bonnie is settling in really well and loves a fuss. She has the loudest purr! She enjoys sleeping on the bottom of the bed and has a favourite chair. She has started to go outside and explore the neighbourhood but, always comes back for dinner and to curl up for the night. We love her being part of the family. She even had her own Christmas decoration on the tree!"

What a lovely rehoming success!
