The Regan’s team would like to remind our clients of the potential dangers of throwing sticks for dogs.
This week The Avenue Vet team treated the lovely little Dottie. Whilst on a walk, Dottie unfortunately ran onto a stick which landed pointing upwards in the ground and impaled her. She was rushed down to the clinic as an emergency where vet Chelsea and nurses Paige, Megan and Katie were all on hand to treat her.
The team could feel the stick in Dottie’s throat but were unable to get a good look in her mouth as she was understandably anxious and painful. Dottie was put under anaesthetic to enable the team to properly assess any damage. They could see the stick poking out from the base of Dottie’s tongue and into her throat tissues… as you can see, it was quite a bit larger than anyone expected!
Dottie is a very lucky little dog that nothing vital was damaged, and after the team stitched up the entrance hole and sent her home with some pain relief and antibiotics, she is now on the mend and doing well!
We don’t recommend throwing sticks for dogs because they can splinter in the mouth, dogs can swallow bits of the stick or, as seen, they can become impaled. As an alternative, you can buy rubber “sticks” from pet shops for your fur friend to enjoy 🐶
Rolo's vaccinations!
This is lovely Rolo, he came in to The Avenue for his booster vaccinations and was a very good boy 🥰 His owner asked if we could film Rolo's vaccination as the owner had recently had his covid vaccination and has made a tiktok video!
The vaccination given up his nose is for kennel cough. This is an optional vaccination which is reccomended especially for dogs that meet other dogs or go for walks in areas where a lot of other dogs have been. Many kennels will also require it. Kennel cough itself is not usually a serious disease but is very contagious and may cause your dog to become unwell for a couple of weeks.
Snow Fun
Meet gorgeous Phoebe. At least someone got to enjoy the snow the other day, before coming into the Radcliffe surgery.
👅👅👅
In case any of you need a laugh today, this is Fred and George, one of our nurses hand reared kitties. Yesterday Manii discovered that her cats stick their tongues out to the sound of sellotape being unrolled.
Enjoy! 😻😹
Meowtresting conversation 😻
