And she's off! It was an absolute pleasure to wave Lady off to her new home today from Cocker And English Springer Spaniel Rescue - Caessr . Not only has she got two lovely humans to live with but she also has a four legged buddy too. Happy days ahead 😊

Happiness is helping a rescue dog. I began working with Lady this morning who's at Cocker And English Springer Spaniel Rescue - Caessr . She's a bit shy at 1st meeting so the "how" you meet is really key to setting her up to succeed. Just by following the basics of good body language etiquette with her she was soon helping me get my happy on 🙂

Happy Rescue Dog day. All dogs are amazing but rescues are just a little bit special. To all of you who have fostered, adopted, volunteered or donated, on behalf of rescues across the land, I send you a huge thank you!

Furry mayhem. 3 years ago - how time flies. Our house has never been the same since I worked with the pups and their Dad at Cocker And English Springer Spaniel Rescue - Caessr . Hair EVERYWHERE, squishy paw prints all over & let's not mention the garden! But of course we wouldn't be without the hairy one AKA Wooster. He continues to teach me so much & he, Ed, Daddy & Mario are great partners in crime 🐾

A change is as good as a rest. Secure dog fields are a blessing to lots of people (& dogs!) They give reactive dogs a no stress runabout, they're great for those dogs with poor recall & give people a safe environment to work on training. But they're also great to give your dogs a new and super interesting bit of enrichment. I took Ed and Wooster to my local facility where they spent most of the time sniffing all those amazing smells that comes with a new environment. Scents left by other dogs, foxes, rabbits, squirrels & even people...absolute heaven for a doggy nose and despite no tearing around or crazy zoomies a very tiring but fulfilling experience. Plus they could do whatever they wanted wherever they wanted without active input from me. We could all just enjoy each others company. Happy days! Here's Ed and Wooster enjoying K9 Pastures

Throw your legs in the air like you just don't care...it works for Wooster. Happy Tuesday everyone 🙂

Less is more. We have just added another pup to the Bright Behaviour family & it's served as a good reminder of the basics when it comes to bringing a new dog into the family. Mario is from Bosnia where he was a "chain dog". Not mis-treated as such but left to his own devices & kept on a tether. So, much like when we brought Wooster home we've had to remember that mostly everything is new to him. The biggest gift we can give to him at the moment is what he needs rather than what we need. He needs food, safety and shelter. All the other stuff - toys, play, fuss, chatter - that's what WE need. That can wait - our first priority is to help him settle, feel safe and learn to bond with us & learn to trust us. The other stuff will come later. ☺️

"Why" counts way more than "what". So your dog chews stuff he shouldn't, that's the "what". The important thing to think about is why he chews stuff he shouldn't. A quick solution to the immediate problem is to constantly tidy up and never leave anything around. Ha, that's foxed you Fido - no more problem. So with nothing to chew Fido digs at the carpet. Hmmm, what to do? Put down hard flooring to stop that problem, ha see you can't best me my little four-legged! Then he chews at his foot.....oh no, off to the vet. Hmmm, vet says there's nothing physically wrong. Sooo, you've now forked out a fair bit of dosh on trying to stop his "problem" but the one thing you didn't consider was why he was doing these things in the first place. So many things can affect a dogs behaviour:
Rest
Routine
Lifestyle
Diet
History (medical, home-life & training)
Stress levels
Instincts
Breed traits
Dog requirements versus our requirements....and many, many more.
If you can't figure out why your dog is doing what they're doing there's absolutely no shame in that. The sad thing is when you don't ask someone who can help, to help. Behaviourists are trained to see what a dog sees and how it is affecting them. That way they can sort out the why for you. 😊
