Growth plate closure is such an important consideration when we are working our young dogs. This is a guide only, in my personal experience some growth plates can remain active until the dog is 2yrs old. Torque or twisting can cause damage to the growth plates. Find the distal radial epiphysis (wrist) this can remain active until 17 months or more ! Think about the concussive force this joint receives when the dog takes off and lands. Take care out there 😉

Walk with me; don’t just walk me. Slow down and see the world as I do. I know you’ve got things to do, places to be. But out here, with the ground beneath our feet and the sky above us, there’s a whole world worth noticing.

The autumn chill is in the air today, crisp and full of new smells. It’s different from yesterday, and different from the day before. Every day is new. The leaves crunch under my paws, and I stop to breathe in the rich, earthy scent of them. To you, it might just be a pile of leaves, but to me, it’s a story—one I can’t help but dive into, nose first.

There’s a squirrel somewhere nearby, I can sense it, darting up a tree, its tiny heart beating fast. And the wind carries whispers of things far away: a family cooking dinner, the trace of a cat that passed by early this morning, and the faint perfume of flowers holding on to their last bit of summer. It’s all here, swirling around us if you just take the time to notice.

You tug on the leash, eager to move on, and I can tell you’re thinking about something far away from here. But when we walk, truly walk, you and I can be in this moment together. Feel the cool air brush against your skin, let it wake you up. Notice how the sun filters through the branches, casting shadows that dance on the pavement. Hear the crunch of the leaves beneath our steps, like a secret rhythm just for us.

To you, it might be just another walk, a daily routine to tick off the list. But for me, every step is an adventure. Each scent is a clue, each sound a piece of a puzzle. When you walk with me, really walk with me, you’ll see it too. The world is bigger than what we’re rushing toward. It’s right here, in the small moments, in the quiet spaces between your thoughts.

So, slow down. Breathe. Let the chill fill your lungs and the colours fill your eyes. Walk with me, don’t just walk me. See the world as I do, if only for a little while. It’s all waiting for you, just beneath the surface.

Wow - I can’t believe that it’s over 6 years since I qualified as a Canine Core Conditioning Coach.

I absolutely love seeing the dogs not only having fun and enjoying the exercises but seeing the positive changes in their posture, gait and enhanced mental and physical wellbeing đŸ„°

It also helps build a stronger bond and affinity with your dog 😘

Another fantastic couple of days and after their Assessments we have 5 new Canine Conditioning Acedemy Instructors. They have been amazing students and worked so hard to get their Instructor qual. Well done Marianne not here for the pic and Tracy Oliver, Julie Casey, Carol Collins and Penny Warrren. Emma in the middle, my very talented co creator at CCA.

Muscles pull on bones to create movement, and when arthritis is present, the joint has to recruit extra support of muscles which leads to your dog offloading, overcompensating on other limbs, primary as well as secondary areas of muscular and myofascial pain, and habitual patterns of tension throughout the whole body

So it's not just the joint thats affected.
It's your dog's whole body.
We can help.

🍁 🍂 Autumn Hazards for Dogs 🍂🍁

🍄Mushrooms and Toadstools: Some wild mushrooms are ok to eat, many are highly toxic to dogs and can cause liver and kidney failure. If you are concerned your pet has eaten a mushroom please ensure to seek veterinary attention straight away.

🍁Conkers: Contain a toxin called aesculin which can cause drooling, vomiting and abdominal pain. They can also cause a blockage.

🎃Halloween: Jelly sweets can contain a toxin called xylitol which is toxic to dogs.

đŸŒŸHarvest mites: These are present in long grasses during autumn and can cause scratching and itching.

✹Dark nights: Dark nights can reduce the visibility of your pet, especially when walked off lead. We suggest using reflective collars or harnesses.

🎆Fireworks: Many dogs find fireworks stressful. We will be producing a post with tips as to how to keep your pet safe and calm.

💧Antifreeze: is Ethylene Glycol and is a sweet tasting liquid. Ingestion of even very small amounts can cause severe kidney damage, breathing difficulties and seizures.

If you are concerned your pet has had contact with any of the above please give us a call for advice.
