Police are investigating after hunt sabs released disturbing footage of a man kicking and punching a horse at a hunt kennels on Saturday.
Our paypal is - paypal.me/DerbySabs Hunts that were targeted originally were the Meynell, the Quorn and South Notts. Things started out promising.
The inaugural meeting of Derby Hunt Saboteurs was held in a house in Shardlow on May 20th 1977 in response to the growing opposition in the Midlands against hunting with hounds. Beagle packs were also targeted, the main one being a RAF pack named the Per Ardua Beagles based near Newark and the group also made odd visits to the Derbyshire Beagles and the Oakley Foot Beagles. Assaults were common pl
ace at this time and supporters of the Per Ardua Beagles and South Notts Foxhounds had the worst reputation. Even so, the founder of the group, Harry Griffiths, was known to sab South Notts FH on his own by laying false trails which kept the hunt busy for hours! There were always strong links with other Midland Groups from the beginning. The national Hunt Saboteurs Association moved its headquarters to Nottingham, and Derby had a strong influence in shaping it to the organisation of the present day. Chris Williamson, another founding member of Derby Hunt Saboteurs, became Press Officer on the committee of the national HSA. Derby sabotaged the first grouse shoot in the UK on August 12th 1978 in the Peak District. Derby was also involved in sabbing a Seal Cull off the coast at Long Sutton near Skegness at around the same time. With this diverse range of activities members of Derby Hunt Sabs were responsible for changing the constitution of the HSA to oppose all bloodsports, rather than solely hunting with hounds which had been concentrated on previously. In the Eighties the group diversified into general animal rights issues and henceforth had a dual identity Derby Animal Rights and Derby Hunt Saboteurs. The group was probably at its strongest in the late Eighties/ early Nineties when the clapped-out Derby van was a common sight in the Midlands. By the late 90s the group had reduced in number, like many groups, thanks to the attempt to outlaw hunt saboteurs by the last Conservative government. The committed few however continued, despite the pressure from police and Government to shut them down, tactics got more developed and smarter, and even the small Derby group became infamous within the hunting community across the Midlands. The group was one of the first in the country to use a 4x4 which was invaluable as the focus shifted primarily to Derbyshire hunts like the Meynell and the High Peak Harriers. The group continued to work with Nottingham, Sheffield, Northants, Leicester and Wolves sab groups with other trips to the Barlow, Blankney, Quorn, Cottesmore, and Albrighton Hunts. It wasn't only bloodsports Derby Huntsabs focused on, they were also heavily involved in disruption of the Krebs Badger Cull when one of the regions chosen was Derbyshire and Staffordshire. This was a 3-year campaign which required huge financial resources to combat. The 6 weeks every year cost as much as the whole of the hunting season! By the new millennium hunts were more on the defensive. The weekly summer street stalls were a common sight outside St Peter's Church in Derby and the group handed 1000s of leaflets out to the general public showing the true horror of bloodsports. There was a major push in Parliament to outlaw hunting with dogs and in 2004 the Hunting Act finally went into law. Derby Huntsabs enjoyed lots of publicity at that time with members appearing in ITV and BBC features and lots of large articles in the Derby Telegraph! Nottingham and Derby groups made history by attending the quadruple meet(!) of the Meynell & South Staffordshire, Staffordshire Moorland, DNS Beagles and Dove Valley Minkhounds at Darley Moor - a last show of defiance on the 19th of February 2005 - a day after the Ban came into force. The sabs cracked open a bottle of champagne outside the meet. We naively thought the worst was over and we'd bought nice, shiny new camcorders to enforce the Law! As Derby Huntsabs were now a very experienced and respected group, Staffordshire Police called a number of meetings where members acted as consultants. Questions such as "how does a mink hunt work?", "which way do you think they will go?" seemed to suggest a relationship with the police the group could only have dreamt about a year earlier! They actually shut down one hunt of the Dove Valley Minkhounds under the Animal Welfare Act! This however was shortlived. Prime Minister Tony Blair had made it very public he didn't agree with the Hunting Act and this promise of enforcement evaporated quickly. Sabbing continued although the threat to hunt sabs of being arrested for Aggravated Trespass lessened (as the police would also have to prove the hunt was acting lawfully that the sabs were disrupting). Derby Huntsabs continued with a monitoring role for a couple of years, then reprised rating if needed, and then by 2009 had returned to full-on sabbing techniques. Despite this in 2011, information provided to the group resulted in one of the most successful convictions under the Hunting Act. Two members Roger Swaine and Robin Ellison caught the Meynell and South Staffordshire illegally cub hunting on camera. In August 2012, the "Honourable" Johnny Greenall and hunt steward and supporter Glen Morris were convicted of illegal cub hunting under the Hunting Act. This was the first time anyone had been convicted of cub hunting, and was the highest fine to date! The group continues to work closely with our neighbours Nottingham Huntsabs and continues to save wildlife in the East Midlands and further afield!

With the Labour Government committed to banning โtrail huntingโ, the HSA takes a detailed look at this activity and how it has been used for almost twenty years to circumvent the law.

We've been keeping this quiet for a while but can now reveal that Max Logan and Mia Cleary, huntsman and whip of the now defunkt Oakley Hunt have been charged under Section 1 of the Hunting Act and today pleaded NOT GUILTY at Luton Magistrates court.
This relates to an incident from last February where we filmed them hunting a fox and supplied the relevant evidence to Bedfordshire Police. We are pleased to report they conducted a robust investigation and the CPS were happy to proceed. The court date is set for next March however due to court pressure we expect that to change.
This prosecution will be the final nail in the coffin for the Oakley and we're happy to provide the hammer.

Yesterday we told you that the Albrighton and Woodland Hunt have been issued a Community Protection Warning. This was given to them at the end of last season in March 2024. As a result of their antisocial behaviour the following requirements must be adhered to with immediate effect:
1. Inform Staffordshire Police of meet locations, including dates and the routes the trails are to be laid
2. Inform Staffordshire Police of details of people in charge at each meet โ names and a contact number
3. Scent trail to be laid 20-30 mins before the hunt start off and trail layer to be recorded laying the trail โ possibly with a phone or โgo-proโ camera, to confirm times trail laid and prove the trail was laid
4. To have the artificial scent ready to show, should officers attend and request this
5. Whipper in and huntsmen to control the hounds to prevent from straying off the scent and onto private land and not to pursue wild mammals
6. Ensure you have land ownerโs permission and have all details of those land owners, in case this needs confirming
7. Trails to be laid well away from main roads and also away from woods, coverts and hedges where wildlife would naturally go to rest
8. Please remember nobody has authority to stop traffic, other than the police
9. Avoid areas where badger setts are
10. In the event of any accidental kills of wild mammals, continue to contact police straight away, leaving the animal in situ as evidence.
We have no doubt that these conditions will have come as a blow to the Albrighton, especially as theyโve never laid a trail and are renowned for their lack of hound control, (remember last season when hounds ran wild through the grounds of a special educational needs school).
As the CPW has been issued by Staffordshire Police, it is only enforceable within the Staffordshire area, however, make no mistake these conditions are a massive step in the right direction for the protection of wildlife and local communities.
Tip offs are crucial to the work we do and with cubbing imminent we urge anyone that sees or hears anything suspicious, such as a large gathering of horse boxes early in the morning or in the evening, to contact us confidentially on 07535784680.

We have had confirmation that the notorious Albrighton & Woodland Hunt have been issued with a Community Protection Warning from Staffordshire Police.
This comes as a result of their antisocial behaviour including, trespass, lack of hound control, killing of a muntjac deer and killing of a fox. They have caused damage to property as well as harassment, alarm and distress to residents and landowners.
CPWโs are issued to stop people from committing antisocial behaviour that negatively impacts the quality of life in a community. A CPW provides an opportunity for the recipient to modify their behaviour without facing formal sanctions. If the recipient does not comply with the CPW, then further sanctions may be enforced.
We did warn the Albrighton that Liability Larby and his partner Phillipa Ward would be the downfall of this hunt, and it seems that our prediction is coming true. Remarkably the BHSA have still seen fit to include the Albrighton in the upcoming โsmokescreen Saturdayโ which will be hosted by the North Staffordshire Hunt. In our opinion any hunt that associates itself with Larby and Co must be mad, but hey what do we know?!
In the coming days we will provide further details about this CPW and what it means going forwards but for now, weโd like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has ever stood up to the Albrighton and Woodland Hunt and their organised crime groupโฆ..tick tock!

Many of you may already know, in the news earlier this week, a hunting groups, Hunting Kind, has tried to claim special legal protection against discrimination. However, what you many not know is a horrible couple formerly of the Barlow Hunt and Pennine Foxhounds, Mark Davies and Joan Williams have recently joined the group. It is likely that the disgraced Judge Davies is behind the recent idea, as they theyโve been known previously for their dubious legal threats. In 2018 the Lord Chancellor and the Senior President of Tribunals have issued Judge Mark Davies of the First-Tier Tribunal, Immigration and Asylum Chamber, with formal advice following a complaint that he made a remark in court which suggested he holds a prejudicial view of Iranian parties. So there is sense of irony of them claiming to be an ethnic minority themselves.

A report released by Wildlife Guardian shows that the Albrighton & Woodland Hunt based in Staffordshire, kills their hounds at the average age of 3.65 years old.
A notorious hunt, this shocking statistic just adds to the long list of violence and animal cruelty that they're racking up.
Don't let them fool you with their hound pictures and propaganda. They are ruthless killers, whether it be wildlife or the hounds they profess to love.

Finnegan has skirted justice for far too long. Finnegan nearly got convicted when he was the whipper-in for the Meynell. He however he escape conviction due to a plea deal. In December 2022 we caught hunting with the now disbanded Meynell's Hounds on SSSI at Marbury. A month earlier Cheshire Against Blood Sports also in Marbury (but Cheshire's Hounds) got enough evidence to secure a conviction. Last year, Finnegan failed show up in court. The trial went ahead without him and he has been found guilty on both counts. Two charges of hunting a wild mammal with dogs. For the last 12 months has been asking for retrials, so today he got his trial and yet again he was found guilty.
Guilty โฆ.again !
John โOllieโ Finnegan today at Crewe Magistrates Court was once again found guilty of illegally hunting foxes.
He was originally found guilty of this offence last year, but has for the last 12 months has been asking for retrials, missing court hearings and delaying what was actually the inevitable, so today he got his trial and yet again he was found guilty.
We will provide more details soon, some of it is eye opening. The Magistrates found Cabs members to be very credible witnesses and errr Mr Finnegan not soโฆ..
Once again this conviction is another example of why the Labour government must bring legislation forward immediately to ban trail hunting so men like Finnegan and hunts such as the criminal Cheshire Hunt are consigned into hell and history where they belong.

The North Staffordshire hunt have been given the (dis)honour of hosting one of the BHSAโs โtrail huntingโ demos on smokescreen Saturday.
The speaker at this event will be Timothy Wilfred Waterfield Warren, a director of the North Staffs hunt, but this isnโt the only company heโs a director of. Tim (if we may call him that), is also a director of Hartwell Ventures Limited, a company that specialises in real estate. Heโs also a director of North Staffordshire Care Homes Ltd and North Staffordshire Residential Homes Ltd, and he owns the Heyfield Nursing Home at Tittensor. Now, weโre not sure how the Care Quality Commission would feel about him being part of an organised crime group.

Seeing as Tim is part of an organised crime group whose only attempt at laying a trail was when Riley hung a rag from his trousers and ran for all of twenty seconds, weโre not sure how heโs going to narrate this pantomime. Heโs also got to contend with having the notorious Albrighton and Woodland Hunt present, who are known for their tempers and lack of hound control, and if truth be told are seen as a liability by the rest of the hunting community.
If Tim didnโt get enjoyment from seeing foxes torn to pieces, weโd feel sorry for him.
As predicted, the Labour Party won the General Election by quite a landslide. Within Labourโs manifesto was a promise to close the loopholes which have allowed hunts to continue to hunt live quarry ever since the passing of the Hunting Act nearly twenty years ago.
It's the 12th August so obviously that means Sabs from all over the country are out in the North of England looking for Grouse shoots.

Numerous groups from across the country traveled north for the opening day of the grouse shooting season. Early in the morning, a dedicated team of spotters surveyed various estates in County Durham, quickly identifying a shooting party on the Wemmergill Estate, near Middleton in Teesdale.
In an effort to stop the shoot, footsabs like bees escaped from the hive made their way across the moorland to intercept the event before any birds were harmed. This initiated a prolonged standoff, during which some of the shooters, seeking to make the most of their day, resorted to playing cricket.
Despite recent media reports from police expressing concerns about resource limitations, Durham Constabulary deployed ten vehicles to the area. The police consistently mentioned issues of trespassing, even though the sabs were on open-access land.
At one point, approximately eight officers exited a van, attempting to traverse the moorland toward the sabs. However, they quickly realized the challenging terrain and returned to their vehicle. It is noteworthy that officers seem eager to pursue sabs across fields yet do not take similar actions during fox hunts when illegal hunting is taking place
Additionally, while the police attempted to block the activistsโ vehicles from exiting the area, they nevertheless sought to disperse the sabs as they were departing.

Coming to a fox hunt near you! The British Hounds Sports Association have rubbed their 2 brain cells together and have come up with this cracking idea!
In desperation to convince everybody they've been "trail hunting" for the past 19years, at 30 locations on September 14th they'll be inviting you all along to their "National Trail Hunting Day" ๐คฃ

This coming Monday morning - 29th July at 8am - we are releasing a new video voiced by our good friend Chris Packham
The video attempts the impossible task of capturing the cruelty, chaos and criminality of hunting in just two minutes!
Together with Chris Packham, we are calling on the new Labour government to make good on their manifesto promise to ban the โsmokescreenโ of trail hunting.
But there is no time to waste - we are demanding that they strengthen the Hunting Act in their first hundred days in office.
As an HSA supporter, we ask that you share the video far and wide, so that the new government is left in no doubt about the strength of feeling on this issue!
Thank you,
HSA Committee

Barlow Hounds, Apperknowle - 9/3/2024 Following a tip-off we headed to Moortop Farm, Apperknowle where the Barlow were due to meet at 11. Hounds did not arrive to the meet until after 11:20 and they left at 11:45. Previously we have reported that the Barlow appeared to be drag hunting. However, today there was no sign of their runner Steve and they had 3 quads out. For the first part of the day we stayed covert. The hunt entered the fields at West Handley. They then went down Staveley Lane to Eyries Farm where they got on a track heading through Binkley Wood. They stopped for drinks in a field. It was around this time one of our vehicles was spotted. Once our cover was blown this group of sabs followed the hunt staying with in the the traffic of hunt support vehicles. The hunt then made their return part of their loop, heading through Stubbing Wood and Hollin Wood. While parked at the side of road heading towards the Travellers Rest, someone dragging a rag appeared in the field at the side of our vehicle. Our driver and nav filmed the trail laying. This was the perfect opportunity for the hunt to prove themselves. We could have filmed a nice video showing them actually following a trail. However, this moment was spoiled as one of the riders decided to shout abuse. As we leaving a members of hunt supported shouted, "There are none [foxes] around here, I've shot them all". The hunt packed around 14:30 by which time we had started to feel very unwelcome, with support filming and trying to intimidate us. Support again has let the Barlow down. It seems their support and members haven't received the memo to behave. It is clear that they aren't happy with our presence. Today, the Barlow had the perfect opportunity to prove themselves. They laid a trail in front of us, hounds followed, then horses and riders.
