It only took 7 years but better late than never as they say! 😸 We are thrilled the day has finally come, and believe this is just the beginning of cats finally getting the protections they deserve in the eyes of the law. Slowly but surely they will catch up to their canine counterparts, and it will have all started with this piece of legislation! We've said it a million times throughout the years but once again we want to thank all of our supporters - especially those of you who told their cats microchip stories for us to present to DEFRA during an evidence gathering meeting and those who took part in the public consultations themselves, resulting in DEFRA saying to us they rarely see the level of support this proposed legislation has received!
This would not be law now had it not been for Rehman Chishti MP ultimately, who put the Cats Bill through after the issue was raised with him by constituents who run the rescue Animals Lost and found in Kent Ltd, with then the added help of then Ministers Michael Gove & David Rutely who pushed as hard as they did for the consultations and inclusion in the party manifesto! It would also not have been the success it has been without the numerous other cat and animal organisations fiercely helping push this too.
When this first went through in Bill form, no one predicted we'd see a pandemic (which put the legislation back as there were minimal staff working on it from home at one point), a war on our continent (which caused the DEFRA team to turn attentions on people fleeing Ukraine and bringing pets here with them), and then a cost of living crisis (which raised doubts on how much promotional work they could do on it). When Liz Truss became PM, ourselves and other cat organisations genuinely thought it was the end of the road for the legislation as she sacked some of the main people working on it and the ministers she appointed wouldn't commit to it. Thankfully hers and her peoples reign was short lived, and the wonderful companion animal team at DEFRA continued to make it happen! Somehow, the legislation survived through everything, even when so many other animal welfare proposals were unfortunately, shockingly dropped, so we feel extremely grateful to the hundreds of people ultimately involved in it's success. Well done everyone 👏🐱

We love Ziggy's visits for his Maintenance Spa Days. 😻

Regular maintenance grooms are so important for the Siberian breed to keep on top of any matting issues. As we go into summer on the UK and many cats are still shedding their winter coats, Ziggy will be feeling much more comfortable with less lumps and bumps in his coat - plus he had a good tummy trim. An absolute star for his bath, blow dry and comb out, as always.

She visited with her sister as Mum thought she deserved a Spa Day too. 🥰

Such a good girl and we helped with her Spring Shedding. You can see the difference in her Before and After photos. The first photo her coat is clumpy and full of dead coat, whilst the second after her groom is smooth, clean, shiny and silky.

When cats lick their coats, all too often they swallow a lot of hair. This can result is them coughing up furballs, or the hair might pass through the gut within their p**p - or for many cats, they may require surgery if the dense hair get stuck in the gut and cause a life threatening blockage. 😔

Just look at this gorgeous fluff ball! 😻

As with many of the cats we groom, Raspuss was adopted from overseas. This means the history of their previous life is often unknown. When adopted from a hot country, cats tend to arrive shaved -likely due to matting. So, as their coat grows back, their new families often need some professional help with coat maintenance, especially cats like Raspuss, who naturally has a thick, dense, slightly greasy coat.

This was his second visit to our Cat Grooming Salon and already we could see his high maintenance coat requires a lot of work! As Cat Grooming Specialists, we are equipped to manage his coat and offer options going forward. But, as always, a bath, blow dry and comb out is key.

An absolute Love Bug, we look forward to his next visit and helping keep him looking and feeling fabulous. 🥰

Have you heard of Cerebellar Hypoplasia? Aka Wobbly Cat Syndrome?

Gorgeous Jessie J has the condition, which means she has a wobble when she walks and is not quite as stable on her legs as most cats. She leads a perfectly normal, happy life and is a proper little character.

We help her with her grooming as she has a greasy coat which causes knots and matting. She has a slightly spicy side 🥰, so we need to work within her boundaries. She loves her bath, blow dry and combout. 😻

We love Maxim's visits to our Salon for his regular maintenance grooms.

We used to visit him in his home, where he just would not settle for his groom. It was quite stressful for everyone. 😔

When we opened our Cat Exclusive Salon in Cranleigh, Surrey, his Pawrents agreed to bring him to the Salon. Oh, what a difference! He is as good as gold and totally relaxed for every part of his Spa Day. This means we can properly and safely address his coat issues, which is prone to grease and therefore matting.

He loves the Drying Pod and doesn't want to leave it when Dad comes to collect him! 😻

How far does he travel? Oh, just a cool 90 mile round trip! ☺️

We love Persian Peggy's visits. 🥰

We help her family with her beautiful, though high maintenance coat, which ensures her comfort year round.

Since her first visit in July 2023, she visits our Salon regularly and is now totally relaxed for her Spa Day. Isn't she a beauty!?

Can you guess the age of this sweet British Longhair?

10 months. And already pelted. 😔

No fault of her owners. They were not given the correct information regarding how to care for her high maintenance coat. Sadly, we see this all the time.

We helped her with a full clip to release her from her pelted shell, plus a professional degreasing bath, blow dry and comb out. Moving to a Preventative Maintenance Grooming Schedule is key to stop the issues returning and for her comfort and welfare.

She will be feeling much more comfortable now. ❤️
