The Cat's Grin Theatre Company specialises in crafting original stage adaptations of classic literature and curriculum-friendly topics. This live theatre experience encompasses maximum energy, fluency and wit, with myriad effects and lots of audience participation in a minimalist setting, at competitive prices. Founded in 1997 by Don Brown, The Cat's Grin Theatre Company has built a strong reputation with many teachers, parents and children for delivering energetic, imaginative and highly humorous productions where the children's involvement is crucial to the overall impact of the show. Audience participation is a vital ingredient to the fluency and the understanding of each story presented by Cat's Grin, whether it's for Key Stage 1 or 2. The Cat's Grin Theatre Company takes particular pride in Don Brown's original scripts, which ignite the dynamic energy permeating each production. Adapting classic literature in such a way that serves both author and audience is a delicate operation. We believe that the wonderful relationship the Company has enjoyed with so many schools, theatres and special events over the years is a testament to Don and Cat's Grin's mastery of this "delicate operation." The scripts are very carefully constructed ensuring that stories and characters, humour and drama are perfectly pitched to appeal at every age level, from 4 years and up. The correct usage of language and the clarity of communication are key components to all Cat's Grin productions. We never underestimate the importance of using the right words – oral and visual allusions – to engage our audience. All our performers have an enhanced CRB check; they have extensive experience in engaging, inspiring and educating young people through Drama; all are professional, enthusiastic and versatile performers.

Family friendly bitesize scenes - including 20 min version of Macbeth - popping up around the gardens at Polesden Lacey - National Trust. Mornings at 11 am. Afternoons at 1.30pm. First performance of “The Wizard of Oz” is complete! We had a wonderful time and were so pleased to see so many children having a lovely time. Can’t wait for our next performances tomorrow. 🌈🧙♂️🦁

Red Riding Hood, Grandma and Wilf Wolf are really getting into the festive spirit. Boxes of crackers and Christmas decorations have been arriving ready for more “Festive Fairytales”. That Goldilocks is probably opening them all before the shows!

The characters from “Three traditional tales” are getting very excited about all their upcoming shows. Wilf wolf has promised not to eat anyone while they are rehearsing but the others are keeping a close eye on him anyway. Book your festive production now.

Our winter production of The Wizard of Oz is selling out very fast. We have limited spaces left during the week of 11th Dec. Please could our friends possibly share this far and wide so any schools, social clubs, care homes or private parties get a chance to book a spot.

Our FREE 25th birthday performance of Alice in Wonderland (featuring THAT ladder!) in Wandsworth Park has been rescheduled to Sunday 4th September.
Meanwhile we are thrilled to support the brand new promenade theatre production from The Visitor Enhancement Experience - "The Pirate, The Seed & The All-Seeing Tree" - a 30 minute voyage of discovery suitable for adults & children aged 6 and over, which runs at Nymans NT National Trust 29th, 30th, 31st July, 5th, 6th, 7th August. It's 2022! And in June we celebrate the 25th birthday of The Cat's Grin Theatre Company. What better way to mark the beginning of this auspicious year than by looking back at our extraordinary ending to 2021. We were thrilled to, once again, work with the creative talents of The Visitor Enhancement Experience on their specially commissioned, site specific, Christmas event for the National Trust at Polesden Lacey in Surrey. "Finding Father Christmas" is an immersive theatre experience for families. We performed it 150 times over 15 days in the lead up to Christmas. Sold out within two weeks of tickets going on sale, it was seen by over 3500 people. The written feedback was overwhelming in its praise for a Christmas experience quite different from the norm. We were proud to play our part in this emotionally uplifting venture. Congratulations to The Visitor Enhancement Experience (www.thevisitorenhancementexperience.co.uk) who we know have been asked to return to Polesden Lacey for Christmas 2022.
