** THURSDAY RESEARCH MEME**

Todays research meme relates to the importance of considering the anatomy of the head when fitting bridles, particularly the headpiece and noseband. From a previous study we have shown that bridle pressures around the TMJ and lateral aspect of the nasal bone can have a significant effect on equine locomotion. As can been seen, the bridle and its features are positioned close too, and around certain anatomical structures, and it is important that these are considered, in order to optimise comfort. 🤓

Here’s a a photo of a an older horse with excessively worn incisors from wind sucking all his life.

Horses can manage surprisingly well like this, with lots of loose hay and long grass.

Hi everyone. Thought I’d best introduce myself on here. Im Issy, I’m an equine dental technician and student member of the BAEDT. Thanks for coming to look at my page.

I’ve been around horses for as long as I can remember and have 3 of our own that keep us very busy.

I absolutely love being able to work with all your lovely horses and take pride in giving them a very calm and kind experience.

Grass sugar content fluctuates with the time of day, season, and weather. Timing pasture access for horses with EMS, IR, or a history of laminitis can help prevent serious problems.

Phillip came to me today,
and said it was time to go.
I looked at him and smiled,
as i whispered that "I know"

I then turned and looked behind me,
and seen I was asleep.
All my Family were around me,
and I could hear them weep.

I gently touched each shoulder,
with Phillip by my side.
Then I turned away and walked,
with My Angel guide.

Phillip held my hand,
as he lead the way,
to a world where King's and Queens,
are Monarch's every day.

I was given a crown to wear
or a Halo known by some.
The difference is up here,
they are worn by everyone.

I felt a sense of peace,
my reign had seen its end.
70 years I had served my Country,
as the peoples friend.

Thank you for the years,
for all your time and love.
Now I am one of two again,
in our Palace up above.

Understanding Veterinary Terminology

Sometimes, reading medical notes can seem like another language!
Here is a quick summary of some commonly used veterinary terms that you may find interesting or useful:

Palmar – meaning the back of the forelimb.
Plantar - meaning the back of the hindlimb.

Superficial - refers to structures towards the surface of the skin.
Deep - refers to structures found below the surface.

Proximal - structures that lie nearest to the center of the body.
Distal - structures that lie furthest away from the body.

Cranial - means towards the head.
Caudal - means towards the tail.

Medial - structures lie towards the midline. The midline divides the horse symmetrically into right and left halves.
Lateral - structures lie towards the outer side of the horse.
