VacciCheck is a simple and affordable titre test, designed to monitor immune status and vaccination failure to prevent over and under vaccination consequences.
Complete Veterinary Care is a UK distribution company that supply high quality, high value products and services from around the world to veterinary practices and labs in the UK. Their products include a serum allergy test that tests one 3ml sample against 91 UK specific allergens (SPOT Platinum by Spectrum Labs), an all-natural skin treatment that includes 27 Dead Sea minerals (VetGold), and seve
ral diagnostic kits by Biogal Labs, including VacciCheck. A single blood test will provide the immune status for the three core diseases that dogs are vaccinated against: Infectious Hepatitis, Parvovirus and Distemper. This is not an anti-vaccination product. This is an information product, allowing owners and vets to make informed vaccination decisions. Research has shown that once animals have received their initial vaccinations and have achieved immunity, the majority should have protection for at least seven to nine years, if not their lifetime. This means they may not need to receive core disease vaccinations again for several years, if at all. Use the map on the page to find the nearest practice to you that offer titre testing (these are practices that have previously submitted samples or ordered kits in the past from us). If you contact a practice on the map and they do not recognise VacciCheck, please report this on the page so that CVC can contact the practice and remind them of the service. CVC will not discuss pricing with owners - please contact the practice directly for all costs. It is always worth checking that any price quotes are definitely for a VacciCheck test and not for a titre test from a different lab, as VacciCheck tends to be more cost effective than other services. VacciCheck: Validate before you vaccinate.
============================
Additional Information:
Leptospirosis; VacciCheck does not test for Leptospirosis. Due to the nature of this disease, you cannot assume that a positive titre indicates long-term protection, meaning such a test will never be developed for Leptospirosis. Duration of immunity after vaccination does not last as long as it does for the core diseases (DHP), thus annual revaccination is required for this very dangerous disease. This is the recommendation of the WSAVA Vaccination Guidelines, which do support titre testing for the core diseases. These guidelines are written by vaccination experts and updated every year, based on the most up-to-date research. Initial Vaccination Series; Biogal Labs and CVC recommend that a VacciCheck test be run after a puppy’s initial vaccination series, to ensure that they have achieved immunity against the core diseases. In order to avoid false positives caused by maternal antibodies or vaccines, the earliest that a pup should be tested is at 20 weeks old, with no less than two weeks between the last vaccination injection and the test. Research has shown that up to 10% of puppies do not achieve immunity after initial vaccination, for various reasons, including interference from maternal antibodies, faulty vaccines or the dog being a non-responder. A quick VacciCheck test can show if the pup has their own protection, and after ensuring that immunity has been achieved, annual testing is recommended in order to decide if and when revaccination is required. Rescue or Stray Dogs; VacciCheck is an ideal test for rescue or stray dogs, where the vaccination history is unknown. The fast and easy test will allow vets to check if the dog already has protection or if it is at risk. It is also an important tool for dogs on immunosuppressant treatment, where the risk of adverse vaccination reactions is increased due to a weakened immune system. There are also an increasing number of kennels and boarding facilities who are happy to accept positive titre test results as proof of protection, in lieu of proof of recent vaccination. Results and Scoring; VacciCheck results are reported as scores. The score itself does not matter, apart from to determine positive or negative titres. A score of 0-1 indicates a negative titre. It is important to note that a positive score of 1 does not indicate a positive titre. You cannot assume protection with this score and in order to ensure that your dog has immunity, vaccination is recommended. A score of 2-6 indicates a positive titre and indicates that the dog has protective immunity and does not need revaccination at that time. A score of 2 is no less protective than a score of 6 VacciCheck does not measure memory cells, which are the long-lived cells that initiate the production of the antibodies to protect an animal from disease infection. A score of 2 indicates sufficient response to assume there are memory cells present that will generate a higher, protective antibody titre, should the dog come into contact with the disease. The scoring was developed through thorough research by Biogal Labs, in conjunction with Cornell University and Wisconsin University. VacciCheck can only be sold to a registered veterinary professional. Testing requires only 0.01ml of blood. CVC offer two means of testing: sample submission and in-house kits. Both use the exact same kit, which returns results in under 30 minutes. For the sample submission service, CVC will email results to the practice within 24-36 hours (Monday-Friday) of receiving the sample. This service has allowed many more practices to offer VacciCheck testing, as the kit comes with twelve tests and practices are often concerned that they would not use all of these tests before the kit expired. VacciCheck is available across the UK and CVC are happy to help owners to get the test in their current practice or to find a practice in their area that is already offering VacciCheck testing.

This Sunday is World Collie Day! 🐾🎉
Every July 21st, we celebrate the amazing Collie breed, known for their brains, loyalty, and elegance. Here are five fun facts about these awesome pups:
1. Scottish Roots: The Border Collie hails from the Scotland-England border, named after the Scotch word for sheepdogs.
2. Border Collies are known as the Einstein's of dogs! These pups are well known for their sheepherding skills, but their ability to pick up commands and learn tricks quickly and efficiently means they do well in any working setting.
3. Collies are not just smart but also incredibly affectionate and loyal. Take Bobbie the Wonder Dog, a Scottish Collie who, in 1923, travelled 2,551 miles over six months to reunite with his family after being separated. Now that's devotion!
4. These smart pups use their eyes to control a flock. At the 1873 sheepdog trial in Wales, spectators were amazed as Border Collies effortlessly herded sheep into pens using only simple hand signals and whistles from their handlers.
5. It is believed that all modern Border Collies descend from one remarkable ancestor, Old H**p, born in 1893. Renowned for his herding skills, he used body language instead of barking to get the job done. Old H**p is believed to have fathered about 250 puppies!
We will be giving our Collies some extra cuddles and treats this weekend - are there any other Collie owners in the group? 🐶❤️

Hopefully you won't need this info, but it's important to know, just in case:
No more hot dogs!
With the sun shining, the Royal Vet College has launched new evidence regards best approach to treating heat stroke. (Link at bottom).
This is to soak or immerse the dog in cold water (straight from the cold tap, not tepid and not iced) then put a fan or air con on them.
DO NOT COVER THEM IN WET TOWELS. These just warm up then act as insulation.
Heat stroke starts as excessive panting, agitation and drooling. The gums become dark pink to red, they may vomit or pass diarrhoea, the heart rate speeds up and this leads to collapse, organ failure and death if their temperature is not brought back down to normal quickly.
Call us once you have got the dog thoroughly wet and then in a source of air. This could be a fan, air con or driving to the vets with the windows open. They will need to be closely monitored to ensure hypothermia does not set in. You will typically be asked to attend immediately if active cooling has been started.
In a car on a warm day, heat stroke can occur within 6 minutes if they are left unattended, even with windows cracked open. Only walk them in the early morning or the evening when the temperature has dropped as dogs can’t cope with much exercise on warm days, even more so in muggy, humid weather.
It really is true that no dog ever died of not going for a walk.
Rooibos and Una are having a blast playing in the office today. Is anyone else lucky enough to bring their dog to work?

A great webinar explaining the new World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) Vaccination Guidelines from Professor Mary Marcondes (Chair of the WSAVA Vaccination Committee). In the webinar she explains the different types of vaccines and consequent immune responses (why DHP vaccines (please note that she uses adenovirus to refer to hepatitis) have long durations of immunity versus lepto vaccine's short duration of immunity), the reasoning behind the use of multiple doses of vaccines in the primary vaccination of puppies and kittens (related to the blocking effects of maternal antibodies), revaccination protocols based on the duration of immunity and use of serological tests to assist in decision making about vaccination, and lots more!
Session By Prof. Mary MarcondesThe lecture will cover the 2024 WSAVA guidelines on core vaccines, vaccine types, and immune responses, why multiple doses are...

At this time of year, we start to notice lots of posts circulating social media regarding rapeseed; these posts are shared extensively and can understandably worry many dog owners. The posts usually state that rapeseed is highly poisonous to dogs, and can cause signs including haemolytic anaemia, blindness, damaged nervous system, digestive disorders and breathing problems.
These posts are misinformation.
The signs mentioned are typically only seen in grazing animals, and most dogs actually remain asymptomatic after exposure to rapeseed. Dogs can develop gastrointestinal upset if they have ingested some of the plant, and there have been reports of skin reactions which resemble burns, but this is extremely rare and does not happen to every dog which comes into contact with it.

VacciCheck
Complete Veterinary Care is a UK distribution company that supply high quality, high value products and services from around the world to veterinary practices and labs in the UK. Their aim is to help enable practices and labs to supply the best possible service to their clients, therefore improving the health and wellbeing of pets. Their products include a serum allergy test that tests one 3ml sample against 91 UK specific allergens (SPOT Platinum by Spectrum Labs), an all-natural skin treatment that includes 27 Dead Sea minerals (VetGold), and several diagnostic kits by Biogal Labs, including VacciCheck.
Biogal Labs was founded with a mission to improve animal health by providing better diagnostic tools. They are dedicated to the development, manufacturing and marketing of unique diagnostic tools for companion animals, poultry and farm animals around the world. Here in the UK, their most popular kit is VacciCheck.
VacciCheck is a simple and affordable titre test, designed to monitor immune status and vaccination failure to prevent over and under vaccination consequences. To quote Dr. Ronald D. Schultz (PhD, Dipl. ACVIM, Professor and Chair, Department of Pathobiological Sciences School of Veterinary Medicine - University of Wisconsin-Madison): “The routine administration of vaccines in dogs has been one of the most significant factors in the consistent reduction of serious canine infectious diseases. This approach has resulted in excellent disease control for infections that were once considered important causes of morbidity and mortality. Although all veterinarians agree vaccines are necessary, the frequency in which they’re given is debated. For canine core vaccines there is excellent correlation between the presence of antibody and protective immunity and there is long duration of immunity (DOI) for these products. Antibody tests can be used to demonstrate the DOI after vaccination with core vaccines.”
VacciCheck does not test for Leptospirosis.
