💻 This is what’s on my desk today!

With clients booking the Maldives, Lanzarote, New York and a Caribbean cruise for the whole family, it's a wonder my tea stays warm enough to drink it! ☕

But no rest for the wicked and another busy day of enquiries. Check out these pics for an idea of the sort of tailored itineraries I can arrange, and if you are planning a trip this year let me know, as a lot of the January sales expire at the end of the month.
While it does feel like when you work in travel there are 312 days in January, we only have until Wednesday until they ✈️ away.

I was chatting with a friend this weekend who (even though I've known them my entire life) still didn't get that I claim most of my commissions from the supplier and so they (the client) often gets the same price and they get the added bonus of wrap around support from me

Did you know that the term 'sustainable travel' isn't a new thing or just a twenty-first-century trend?

⏪ Rewind back to 1988 – that’s 15 years before Greta Thunberg was even born – the World Tourism Organization defined it as ‘tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts addressing the needs of visitors 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 the industry 🗺️ the environment 🌍 and host communities’ 🤝🏻.

Sustainable travel isn't just a buzzword to hashtag, it's important to me and my business. 💚 If you would personally like to understand more about the impact of your trips and holidays, I can provide you with a carbon footprint measurement.

Those of you who've followed me for a while will know how much I love to read 📚 (always multiple books at a time).

So, I wanted to share with you what I've not been able to put down today. I started digesting page after page during my first break of the day, with a couple of Biscoff and a cuppa 🍪☕ as it's MKL Day in the USA.

Coming across the essential letters and speeches of the man himself as young adult had a huge impact on the direction I chose to take my life in, and how I interact with others, so revisiting his writing on this occasion has been really lovely.

His words continue to inspire me, not just on , but every day ✊🏾 and I still live by the great mans wise words below:

"If you can't fly 🦸🏾 then run, if you can't run 🏃🏻‍♀️ then walk, if you can't walk 🚶 then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward."

So, I'd been craving pizza 🍕 since before New Year's Eve, but after hearing on the grapevine that Papa Johns would be launching a special Veganuary BBQ "Chicken" option, I had to try it on release day.

I used to be a huge fan about 15 years ago (before I became fully vegan) and they started chepening their ingredients and limiting topping options, but this pizza was actually 🔥 and the closest thing I've had to the pizza of old I used to really love.

That could be because I removed the 🍄 and replaced it with 🌶 and 🍍 but it was the combination of the tomato base, vegan cheese that ACTUALLY melted properly, chickn chunks, heat, sweet and generous drizzle of BBQ sauce that really hit the spot.

I stopped 🙅🏾‍♀️ making traditional New Year's resolutions years ago because I realised just how much unnecessary pressure they can put us all under. If they are not kept for the entire year, you can feel like you’re not doing enough.

I reflect ✨ on the things I want in my life around my birthday 🎂 at the end of November, so by January I’m already making progress. I do set life and business goals throughout the year, and allocate them to different months 📅 so that there’s continual growth.

The only goals I set in January are my travel related resolutions ✈️ That way I start every new year with something extra special to look forward to 🥳

For life and business goals I keep track of everything I achieve and the little steps I take in a journal ✍🏾 so I can look back and see just how much I have done for myself.

I’ve read some amazing resources about this over the years 📚 and I've mentioned the one that changed my life the most in my latest blog post, plus I've dropped some top tips and suggestions to help you with your goals, so head on over there to check it out!

I believe that a sense of accomplishment, no matter how big or small, just motivates you to become a better version of yourself, and that's what we all want after all isn’t it? 🤷🏾

This morning, I've been reflecting on when I used to work in a regular travel sales job for a luxury travel agency. At my desk 6 or 7 days a week, busting my 🧠 brain, plus working on customer’s holidays even when I got home. Countless nights I’d be eating dinner and planning at the same time. 😅

But, there has always been one thing I’ve believed – no matter how hard of a worker you are 🦸🏾‍♀️ birthdays are sacred. ✨

Now that I’m an independent travel agent, I don’t have to request my special days off months in advance, waiting with my fingers crossed 🤞🏾 that it’ll be confirmed. I get to decide how I spend my time. Best decision I ever made!

So today, I’ll be out of the office celebrating my birthday 🥳 with 🎂 cake, champagne 🥂 💆🏿‍♀️ and a luscious spa day.

Many moons ago when I worked at Flight Centre on the high street, I loved nothing more than my clients visiting the shop and booking their holidays.

It was so good to sit down, discuss everything they wanted for their holiday and to find them the perfect trip! And I had my regulars who always knew where to find me, who knew that I’d probably grab them a drink and a pastry for the Pret A Manger opposite.

I am now based at home, but that doesn’t mean that I do everything via email, in fact quite the opposite. I still love talking to my clients, and I love to have video calls or meet face to face.

This weekend gone, I met a client of mine for the famous breakfast at Dishoom to chat about their ideas for 2024 holidays. We’ll continue planning via the phone once he moves to Berlin this week.

But let’s get into the breakfast:
Dishoom have a separate vegan menu where all of the options (I’ve included a pic) are already vegan or can be made vegan if you ask your server for any advice when you’re seated.

I started my breakfast with an oat milk spicy chai ☕ that turned out to be bottomless, and had a bowl of their House Granola, handmade with toasted oats, seeds, cashews, almonds, pistachios and cinnamon. It came served with fresh seasonal fruits and creamy coconut yoghurt on top.

🌯 I also had to try their incredibly popular Naan Roll, which is a lot like a vegan sausage sandwich, but stuffed inside a warm, freshly baked naan, that’s been rolled by hand then made to order - in the tandoor. I like things a little spicy, so I requested a little chopped green chilli on the side for more zing in my roll. 🌶️

Everything was delicious, and I wished I had space to try one of their versions of a full English breakfast or the vegan lassi. 😋

I’ve always been big on learning ✍🏾 and where things are constantly shifting and evolving in the travel industry, I make it a habit to remain open to absorbing new information to better serve my customers.

So during WTM this week (World Travel Market) I attended talks on 🤔 Rethinking Travel for the planet 🌍 Sustainable Travel 🌱 How we perceive Green Travel, Engaging local communities in Tourism 🤝 Tackling Issues within Aviation ✈️ Strategies for more Inclusive Travel 👨‍🦽, Niche Travel including gastronomy 👩‍🍳, as well as attending the 👭 Women in Travel Meet-up.

Marcus Murphy, Sarah Moxom, Tom McLoughlin, Alka Winter and Louis Theroux were all highlights for me. Listening to then speak was an absolute pleasure.

I'm still buzzing from an incredible three days of destination showcases, fanfare, connecting with others, learning and growing, and I can’t wait to put all of my new insights into practice.

Mali - Vegan Thai in South West London 🇬🇧🍲🍚🌿
This Foodie Friday, I'm letting you in on a little secret of mine. Mali Vegan Thai is a small family-run restaurant serving vegan versions of traditional Thai dishes. A must-visit for authentic Thai cuisine in London. The Gyo Tom Yum (เกี๊ยวต้มยํา) only recently added to their menu, is a dish I learned to make in Thailand, and is my new favourite for the colder weather 👌🏽

I've only been back in the UK for a few weeks now and I’m not gonna lie, I’m over the rainy weather already! 🌧️

Where I was based in Chile this past year, the seasons are reversed and it ☔ rained quite often, so it looks like I’ve been chasing the colder weather not the dream. ☀️

On the flip side I am happy to have just booked trips for my plant based clients to the Maldives, Thailand and the Caribbean, so at least that feels warm 😂

I’m working on all sorts of vegan and veggie holiday ideas for my clients at the moment, so keep ‘em coming and I can dream of sunnier skies too 😎

🌱 Did you know that over the past five years, the number of vegans in the UK has quadrupled? In the same time the search term ‘veganism’ has increased on Google by a whopping 580%, so there’s little wonder how we reached 1 million recorded vegans in the UK last year.

That’s almost 1.5% of the UK population! 👀

That to me is huge, so this World Vegan Day I wanted to start sharing my favourite places to eat vegan and plant based food around the world 🥗🍲 places I’ve discovered on my travels. 🗺️😋

South America has been one of my favourite parts of the world to travel to and people always ask me "Don't you struggle to find vegan food?" but I really find it a lot easier than 10 or 15 years ago. I'm currently in Chile 🇨🇱 and I've written a blog post about Fiestas Patrias that we celebrated this week. 📚 This week we’ve seen both National Read-A-Book Day on the 6th September closely followed by International Buy-A-Book Day the very next day, and I don’t know about y’all but I’ve always been an avid reader who can talk about books almost as much as I can talk about travel. Ask my mother, she used to check I wasn’t reading my books after bedtime by the moonlight (yup, that was me).

🥗 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 by Lonely Planet
I’ve had this book since it first came out and I’ve been itching to see when the next edition is dropped. As a vegan traveller myself who has always wondered why this book didn’t already exist YEARS before this was available, I’ve actually used this book along with my own personal travel experiences to 30+ countries to tailor trips for my customers who follow a plant based diet but want exploring the local culture AND foodie elements to be at centre of their holidays too. Giving this a re-read because I’m creating some awesome vegan specific itineraries, so watch this space!

📓 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗖𝗘𝗢 by Steve Bartlett
I came across the Diary of a CEO YouTube channel before realising that the videos were the recordings from Steve’s live podcast. I actually binged watched a few videos one weekend (something I almost never do) and was hooked. You can imagine my excitement when I heard that Steve was working on a book about the 33 laws of business and life. It’s a collection of insights from interviewing some of the most incredible people of today – I knew I had to have it! It literally only just dropped on the 31st August 2023, I got my copy on Thursday and I’m loving it as much as I thought I would.

⛩️ 𝗔𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻 by Chris Broad
So, Chris Broad is a British filmmaker, has a YouTube channel with over 2.5 million subscribers focused on Japan and over the past decade, he’s covered pretty much every corner of the country (and I’m obviously jealous). He arrived in Japan with barely any knowledge of Japan itself or Japanese, he didn’t have a clue how he’d make a go of life there. Ten years on, he shares his experiences there, surrounded by a highly complex culture, taking us with him on a journey from the rice fields of the countryside through to the bright lights of Tokyo. If you haven’t been to Japan, you’ll be looking to get yourself a ticket too once you get into this read. Don’t forget to hit me up when you decide to go. 😊

Beaches and oceans inspire so many of us to travel, in search of idyllic places to relax or have thrilling adventures, but who takes care of these oceans? 🐋

For me, today is all about the impact that human actions (including my own) have on our oceans. World Oceans Day on the 8th June is an annual reminder to consider this, but every day should be a day to reflect on how we look after our planet as a whole, not just for travel, but for our lives. 🌎

As wave chasers, beachgoers, travellers, and locals, there are things each of us can do regularly to protect the deep blue, and there are always opportunities to turn the tide. 🌊
