Jill is ready for her summer adventures! 🏖 Her humans booked her appointment online for the same day to get her booster vaccinations and her flea, tick and worm treatment.

👉 Top Tip: If your pet is visiting a kennels or cattery they will need to be fully vaccinated - normally a few weeks prior to going to stay with them -it is worth giving your kennels/cattery a call to discuss their requirements as each may differ slightly. If your pet requires to restart their vaccinations please note this consists of two separate vaccinations normally 2-4 weeks apart - give us a call to discuss your pets needs - our reception team will be happy to help. 🙂

Booster vaccination done and flea, tick and worm treatment collected - now out to reception to pick out a new toy, a pet first aid kit and some tick removers just in case! Jill also sampled the biscuits the reception team had on offer and gave them a cuddle. Jill is all set for her summer adventures, now just to hope for an occasionally sunny day! 🌞

This , we are celebrating the incredible dogs (and their humans) who help to save so many lives! Their selfless act allows vets across the country to help thousands of poorly dogs every year ❤️

Thanks to these amazing dogs that attend our Pet Blood Bank UK donation sessions:

🐶 Sick and injured dogs can receive lifesaving blood transfusions

🩺 Vets have access to a quick and convenient blood supply for any dog that needs it

On Sunday we hosted another Pet Blood Bank session where 12 dogs attended, 8 units were collected meaning 32 lives will be saved. We can’t thank everyone enough for attending the session and to the Pet Blood Bank staff.

Our next donation session with Pet Blood Bank is on Sunday 11th August and we’d love to see you there. If your dog is between 1 and 8, weighs over 25kg, and is fit, healthy, and confident, please consider signing them up to join the lifesaving pack.

Further to our Veterinary Nurse Awarenss month, we are shining the spotlight on Lisa and Brittany 🩺👩‍⚕️

Lisa has been with us at Fair City Vets for two years now, showing the deepest compassion for each and every patient that comes through the doors. Lisa has just completed her Veterinary Care Assistant course, and we cant wait to soon see her blossom into a Student Veterinary Nurse.

Brittany has worked with us at Fair City Vets for two years now, and is working hard to finish her Veterinary Care Assistant course. Brittany has recently been accepted onto the Student Veterinary Nursing course. You may see Brittany assisting at reception on our busier days while also working hard downstairs.

Next up for our Veterinary Nurse spotlight is Megan and Eve 🩺👩‍⚕️

Megan has been our own little Fair City mascot, and has been working with us for nine years, she has went from strength to strength and is now on the home straight of her Veterinary Nursing course.

Eve has been with us for almost 2 years now, working hard in every aspect of the job. She is just about to complete her first year of Veterinary Nursing, and we are all very proud of how well she's embracing the oh-so challenging Veterinary Nursing course.

Next up for Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month is Zoe and Katie 🩺👩‍⚕️

Zoe joined the team almost a year ago, and instantly fit in with our staff, enhancing our knowledge of exotics and bringing her love for all things weird and wonderful.

Katie has been with us for two years, soon to qualify as a Registered Veterinary Nurse. You will typically see Katie as the friendly face in our nursing consults or chatting away with you and your pets at reception.

As Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month draws to a close, we wanted to show off our amazing nursing team and their passions within Veterianry Nursing. First up is our Nursing Manager Chelsie! She has been with us at Fair City Vets for just over three years, and has a strong passion for minor surgery. You may not often see Chelsie as she is always kept busy making sure the nursing team are on top form, as well as assisting our management team with the smooth running of the practice 🩺 🐱 🐶

🎉 Adorable puppy alert! Everyone meet Levi! 🎉

Levi was in for his first vaccinations & microchip as part of his puppy pack last week and he is totally adorable! 😍 He had a lovely time exploring what exciting things are in his puppy pack bag, getting some treats from our vet for being such a good boy and getting lots of cuddles from the team! We cannot wait to see Levi in 4 weeks time for his second vaccination and to see how big he has grown, we think there will be a big difference! 🐾

Miles for Moggies Challenge!🏃‍♀️🐱

A few of our team members are heading out to run a 10k race to help raise money for Cats Protection.

Cats Protection are a UK charity dedicated to rescuing and rehoming stray, unwanted or homeless cats and educating people about cats and cat welfare.

• £20 could cover the cost of seven cat tunnels, offering a space for both play and a sense of security for cats and kittens in their care
• £50 could cover the cost of feeding 250 cats in their care for a day
• £100 could provide a microchip scanner to one of their facilities to check all new cats coming into their care and help reunite them with their owners

🐰VIP Pet Health Club Members! Say hello to the lovely Widow and Starky! 👋

These two adorable bunnies - Widow and Starky, were in to see us this morning for their annual vaccinations and a parasite treatment to protect against flystrike. We can’t wait to see them on their next visit to practice, they are such lovely bunnies! 😍

They are both on our rabbit pet health club so their owner had nothing to pay today as these are included in their membership, along with nail clips, 6-month health checks with our nursing team, microchip, 25% off excel burgess food & hay, plus discounts on neutering and dental procedures.

🚨 Super cute kitten alert! 🚨 Everyone meet Archie! Archie was in to see us for his first vaccinations as part of his kitten pack and he is adorable!!! 😍 He had a great time adventuring around the consult room and inspecting his kitten pack bag which has lots of useful information for cat parents. 🐱 We cant wait to see him when he comes back for his 2nd vaccination!

Today is national receptionists’ day! We wanted to take a moment to say thank you to our wonderful support team Maureen, Morven, Gillian, Ross and Anna who keep the practice going. Not only are they the lovely people you speak to on the phone, the smiling faces welcoming you when you come into practice and helping with your queries, but we also think they have superpowers!

This handsome young man is Beau!❤️ He was a very brave for his recent umbilical hernia surgery and had a lot of fun playing in our garden once he had come round from his anaesthetic! 💤🌞

Umbilical hernias are the most common type of hernia in dogs, and are typically seen in young pets. They are caused when fat from the abdomen enters through the hole where the umbilical cord passes through at birth. This type of hernia is usually harmless, but sometimes needs surgery to be repaired. 🏥 After surgery, patients tend to make a full recovery within a couple of weeks and are back to being their bouncy selves again!

Beau will be back in for a few post operation checks with our nurses to make sure his wound is healing well and to get some cuddles! Isn't he handsome?! 🐾🐶😍

🎉After many months of organising and hard work, we are very proud to announce that we are officially Positive Pawprint Partner's! 🏆

What does this mean you ask? Well, the team has been making changes around the practice to improve our standards of sustainability within 3 different categories: Caring for People, Caring for the Planet and Caring for our Patients!

A few of the changes that we have made around the practice include:
💡Changing to LED lighting throughout the practice to improve energy efficiency
❤Created a well-being area for staff to relax and unwind during a busy day
❌Eliminating single use plastic items and replacing them with re-usable options
👩‍⚕️The nursing team have created quality improvement projects to help ensure your pets are receiving the best possible care while staying with us
🌻Planting pollinator friendly plants and installing a bug hotel in our back garden to support biodiversity
🐤Providing feeding stations and nesting options for the local bird population
♻Promoting recycling around the practice and within consultation rooms

These are only a few of the wonderful changes we have made so far! Keep an eye out over the next few months as we continue strive to be a more sustainable veterinary practice!

Did you know that cats and dog's age at a much faster rate than we do? 🐶🐱While one human year is equivalent to seven pet years, it's important to remember that regular check-ups and monitoring of their health can make a big difference in their quality of life. Early detection is key to keeping your pet healthy and happy.

Our wellness screenings for cats and dogs run by our lovely nursing team can help to identify any potential issues, so we can provide prompt care and help your pet live a long, healthy life. Screenings include:

Wellness Screening is suitable for healthy adult cats and dogs seen by a vet in the last 12 months – if your pet is showing any signs or symptoms of disease, or any abnormal behaviour you should have a check up with a vet first. Adult pets are cats over 7 years old, dogs over 5 years old and giant breeds of dog (Great Dane, Mastiff, St. Bernard, etc.) over 3 years.

The wellness screens are £85. For our Pet Health Club members it is £63.75 (25% discount).

Our governing body, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, released new official regulations on September 1st 2023 regarding the way we provide your veterinary care. On January 12th 2024, additional rules came into force meaning vets can only legally prescribe certain prescription medications, such as anti-biotics and parasite treatments, after a physical examination of your pet.

In effect, this may mean extra visits to the practice but please bear with us as we adapt to the new regulations whilst trying to minimise the impact on you, the client and your pets. We know that these changes may not be ideal, but your pets' health and welfare is the top priority. Christmas is a time for giving and sharing... but not with our furry friends. 🍫
The festive period can be a real danger for our pets and veterinary teams always see a rise in emergencies at this time. Our favourites, such as mince pies, chocolates and fruit cakes contain ingredients that are toxic to our pets. In 2022, VetsNow saw a 62% rise in pet emergencies during the last two weeks in December when compared with the first two weeks. 🤒🐶🐱
Please keep all human treats and snacks away from your pets' reach! If you are concerned your pet has eaten something they shouldn't, please contact your vet as soon as possible. ☎🚨

We recently had the beautiful Axel in for her Pet Health Club healthy pet check. 🐈
As you can tell, she was comfortable and relaxed during her consultation with our nurse, Chelsie. Her nose-to-tail check was fully included as part of her Pet Health Club membership. 🙌
As a silver accredited cat friendly clinic, the consult room had a Pet Remedy plug in to help her relax, but I don't think we can take credit for her laid back attitude. 😎
