The 28 Challenge gets underway on Saturday and Rosie is taking part for the second year. This time, her reason for taking part is extra special - it's in loving memory of her friend Stuart.

Rosie is challenging herself to complete 28 trails in 28 days with her collie Anubis, who is deaf. The challenge will see Anubis use his sense of smell to locate someone who is hiding, just by following their scent.

Rosie said: “I did this challenge two years ago and by coincidence met Stuart Smith - a fellow trailer, tremendous Hearing Dogs supporter and partner of sound support dog Whisper - who gave me so much support to meet my targets.

“Tragically we lost Stuart to cancer last year, and so this year I want to raise funds in his memory, so that another dog can be matched to give another person the joy and friendship that Whisper gave Stuart.

“Unlike last time, I know how hard it is going to be to fit in enough trails, not least finding enough people to hide for us. I also want to include a couple of trails that will bring a smile to those who knew Stuart and Whisper, remembering some of their infamous antics!”

The 28 Challenge runs throughout February and it’s incredibly easy to get involved as all you need to do is a think of a challenge involving the number 28.

We have two spaces available for our first introduction to Mantrailing of 2025 this Sunday at 10am in Neath.
This will be our only introduction until at least the summer.

Please message for a booking form.
Mantrailing provides team bonding, an outlet for over arousal and mental stimulation.

WHAT IS MANTRAILING?

Simply put, mantrailing is the act of a dog following the scent of a human.

What differentiates a trailing dog from a tracking dog is that the trailing dog is allowed to follow the human scent naturally, rather than being trained in a head down or tracking position.
In other words, the dog is taught to follow the scent, but is allowed to do it instinctively rather than mechanically.

Starting the year with some socialisation for Jack.
Haven’t done as much with him as I’d like due to lockdown and focusing a lot on Ziggy but plan to get him to some detection workshops this year, hence environmentals.
He’s pretty sound but doesn’t spend a huge amount of time with the Springers.

He was an absolute idiot in The Range but calmed down and settled well in B&Q!
