Below is a bit more about me...

Having owned many rescue dogs in the last 15 years many with behavioural 'issues', I started learning more about why they are like this and more importantly how to help them.

I've now been working professionally with dogs for over 10 years, including throughout the UK and Internationally. During this time I have been actively involved in Scent sports both teach

ing or competing with my own dogs! Having spent over 10 years working hands-on in the rescue field, working in this sector allowed me to gain invaluable practical experience with all different breeds of dogs. Having owned and worked with rescue dogs for over a decade they are still a huge passion of mine and I wouldn't be here without them. I've run hundreds of training classes and workshops over the last ten years helping hundreds of owners and their dogs, specialising in dog-on-dog reactivity. Along with all this practical experience I also hold several diplomas in behaviour and training, this theory knowledge backs up the practical experience.

I choose to only use science-based training techniques and reward-based training. This means it is just as much fun for your dog as you!

First foundations (puppy) class of the year started last night!

Week 1 is always a hard week, for everyone. It’s certainly not the hardest training week but it’s all new to everyone and takes time for the pups to settle in…

This group is already smashing their training and I cannot wait to see their progress over the coming weeks!

A huge well done to the 6 teams who took on and passed their Level 1 Mantrailing assessments today.

This morning 3 teams took on the challenge of a rural assessment and worked hard to gain their rosettes and certificates.

The afternoon had the other 3 teams who took on their urban assessments and all absolutely smashed them!

The amazing Dawn Heaton from Preston Trick Dogs will be back in the Scottish Borders offering her very popular Tricks & Heelwork to Music workshops in March 2025.

Although this course is aimed at beginner teams any level will still learn how to improve. Dogs will be worked one at a time which does mean dogs will need to stay in their vehicles between their turns.

Being limited to only 4 teams means there will be plenty of opportunities to work, watch and ask questions.

Each week you will be set homework to complete to maximise your learning.

📣 KMK9 Membership!

KMK9 membership group has been running now for over 2 years and after being asked many times I have decided to open it up to people who are not always able to work with me regularly for whatever reason.

▪️Benefits of Joining?
Below is what you get as part of the membership.
Monthly Webinars (plus all previous webinars) - these vary from Scent related topics such as how the wind affects scent to general training such as marker systems. These are always recorded if you cannot make the live, the day and time vary month to month.

First chance to book workshops - members get notified by email and in the FB group about sessions, workshops etc prior to them being made availability to others, often password protected to allow my members first chance to get booked in.

Monthly training challenges - Each month you will be set training challenge to encourage you to do some training at home, this will vary from general training to scent related challenges.

Monthly member chats - Each month (the day and times vary) we have a monthly member chat zoom call to allow members the chance to ask me any questions they have about their current training or simply to talk through any problems they are currently having. These calls don’t get recorded so are a safe place for the members to chat away.

Access to member only workshops/sessions - Members only sessions and workshops are of course only open to active KMK9 members. Past ones included the likes of taking on a maze or handle swapping dogs.

So, the real question is what does it cost to be a KMK9 member?

The KMK9 membership group is only open to known people to me, this is simply to keep the group as a safe place that members can share anything in this group.

What does your cue mean to your dog? Here is an over 2 minute video (sped up to reduce the time) of Raven searching, all I asked was her search cue, no other context for her just “find it” so she started searching… Over a minute into the search I place her ball in the area so for well over a minute she was searching for effectively nothing. Why? Her cue means go search, so she did… would yours?

Settle! Why I keep talking about it! I’ve post many times about the benefits of teaching a settle and again this is another post to promote it! Cara can find it hard being around other dogs but learning to settle she’s able to come to classes and be around unknown dogs! Now not going to say that this would work for everyone but it certainly works for Cara!
