Feline Blood Bank
You may be aware that in certain situations, cats can require blood transfusions, just like humans! These treatments can be lifesaving and help cats recover and go on to have a normal healthy life.
Animal Blood Bank (https://uk.animalbb.org/), is an organisation with established centres and blood bank programmes in several countries in Europe, saving over 3000 animals’ lives every month with blood and blood products.
The Animal Blood Bank is run by highly trained veterinary staff who have years of experience collecting blood donations without stress from both cats and dogs and in 2023 they will start collecting and processing blood donations from cats in the UK.
Animal Blood Bank are looking for healthy cats of any breed to be blood donors, giving them a chance to save lives!
Our greatest priority is the health of our donors and so we have certain criteria to meet to ensure they are fit to donate including:
No health problems or on medication (apart from flea/wormers)
Weighing 5kg or more
Skeletally mature adults (fully grown)
Not be more than 9 years old
Vaccinated and wormed
Has not had a transfusion
Animal Blood Bank will be setting up donor sessions at a veterinary clinic near you, so if you feel your cat is suitable to become a blood donor, they would love to discuss with you.
