Emily's Pet Services Pet services covering Bovey Tracey, Chudleigh Knighton, Liverton, Heathfield and surrounding areas. Hello, my name is Emily and I run Emily’s Pet Services.
(14)

I love animals of all different shapes and sizes, and have owned all sorts from frogs to rabbits! I currently have a dog called Noodle who joins me on some of my walks. I started doing pet sitting visits around Bovey Tracey on my pushbike in June 2018 and built up a loyal base of clients with over 50 cats and numerous other animals between them (and learned to drive in the meantime!). In November

of 2021 I expanded my business to be full time and include dog walking. I love to be outside working with animals, and really getting to know and love your pets individually like they are my own. My qualifications include:

•City and Guilds Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Animal Management (1080) where I achieved a grade of DDD* (Distinction, Distinction, Distinction Star) in 2021

•City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate of Technical Competence in Dog Walking

•Allwinds Dog First Aid

I started worked at the Miniature Pony Centre in the summer before I started college in 2019, and stayed right up until they sadly closed permanently in April 2023 (working weekends only after I went full time with dog walking!)

I also volunteered at ELM Wildlife Rescue in my spare time before the dog walking got too busy. I am insured with Protectivity Pet Business Insurance.

Happy from Emily's Pet Services dogs who are wearing their waterproof AAD collars 💜
Emily is a local Dog Walker and pet sitter who's dogs all wear a tracker on their collar 🐾 this is such a fab idea and we were super happy to create bespoke collars to fit all the various size breeds she looks after!

I had been looking forward to walking on the moors again now that lambing and bird nesting season is over, but after a close call with an adder at 9:30am yesterday when it was cloudy and drizzling slightly I think I’ll be staying in the woods a bit longer 😳 Don’t want anyone getting bitten like Noodle was last year!

WHAT TO DO IF YOUR PET GETS BITTEN BY AN ADDER❗️❗️ It's adder season and cases of adder bites are beginning to come in. It is important pet owners are aware of adder bites and what to do if you think your pet has experienced an adder bite.

Adders usually live in (but not limited to):
-Sand dunes
-Hillsides
-Rocky areas
-Moors
-Woodland areas
Adders hibernate from October and usually emerge from hibernation in the early spring – as soon as it gets sunny! They eat lizards, small mammals and sometimes birds; they rarely bite humans or dogs but when this does happen, it is likely out of self-defence.

If you don’t see the incident or hear any uproar when it occurs, you may notice the following symptoms later on. Symptoms may include (but not limited to):

-Severe swelling around the site of the wound
-Visible pain
-Bleeding or bruising
-Inflammation from the spread of venom
-Increased heartrate or quickened breathing
-Drooling
-Vomiting
-Lethargy or general weakness

What should I do?

It’s important to remain calm. 96% of bitten dogs make a full recovery in as little as five days.

If your dog is yelping or frightened, don’t further their feelings of distress by panicking alongside them. Firstly, you should try to keep your dog still to avoid the venom spreading throughout their body. If you’re able to do so, carry them home or back to the car – the less your dog moves, the less chance the poison gets to travel through their bloodstream. This will also minimise the risk of movement-related pain, especially if your dog has been bitten on the paw or leg. Contact your vet as soon as possible. If you are away on holiday, contact the nearest vets for assistance.

Treatment will depend on the severity of the bite. A painkiller might suffice, or if your dog has been really badly bitten, the vet may recommend antihistamines or a treatment for shock. If your dog’s symptoms are severe, anti-venom may also be administered if it’s available.

Share to raise awareness with your own friends and family!

Not been taking on new dogs for a while but I now have spaces on Mondays, Fridays, and soon most afternoons!

Looks like it’s going to be quite hot Tuesday-Thursday this week! I’m planning to do three group walks in the morning by the river starting around 7am to fit most dogs in and be done by lunchtime, then anyone left home alone through the afternoon swapped to home visits. I remember what most people prefer from previous years and will let you know my plan if it’s different from usual. Let me know if you want anything specific and I’ll do my best to help 😊

About me

I am 17 years old and have a passion for caring for animals. Despite my age I have over three years’ experience with caring for other people’s animals in a professional manner. Animals that I have looked after for other people in the past include lots of cats, several guinea pigs, dogs, rats, tortoises, rabbits, snakes, chickens, ducks and even a hedgehog!

As well as caring for other people’s pets I have 5 pets of my own; two rescued rabbits called Lily and Bear, two dogs called Noodle and Flick and a rescued hamster called Dumbledore. I strive for the best care possible for my pets and always put them first, and when caring for your pets I will treat them like my own.

I have been working at the Miniature Pony Centre since June 2019 and am currently studying Animal Management at Bicton College, which have both given me lots more experience with caring for different animal species.

Due to needing to walk and cycle to your house independently I am currently only able to provide my services within Bovey Tracey and Brimley.
