This time last year, Albs and I were saying goodbye to our friend Rita, AKA The Wise One💔

Grief ebbs and flows but it’s always there. It took me months before I could start collating photo albums and looking back on memories of our time with Rita and although I’ve been a mess this morning looking through photos, I am able to remember our special times together too 🥰

Albs and I will go on one of Rita’s favourite walks later today and celebrate her life 🐾🌈 And to all those who are also missing someone this Christmas time, furry or human, you are not alone 🙏🏻

🎄It’s mine and Boris’s last class of the year today, and I’m super excited that it’s a graduation at Puppy School Hersham 🐶🎓🎉

Thank you to all my lovely clients, old and new, who have continued to support this last year ☺️ I’m so grateful to each and every one of you who have placed your trust in me and chosen a kind and force free method of dog training….you’re the best 💯

It was a sad start to the year, saying goodbye to little Rita last Christmas and then Albert was in and out of the vets for the best part of 4 months with his eye ulcer but we got through it and achieved massive wins with his husbandry training, which now means he can accept daily eye drops with zero stress…good boy Albs 🐕💫

And altough my small business is still recovering post Covid, there have been some exciting developments this year including our partnership with which means that I am now a formal assessor for therapy dogs in the UK, and clever Albs also passed his own assessment and will be volunteering with me next year to bring animal assisted learning and joy to our local community here in Walton-on-Thames 💜

Another partnership I’m super grateful to be a part of is with the amazing team and so far I’ve trained over 50 clever dog first aiders who are now out in the world ready to save a dog’s life 🐶🆘🚑 Dog First Aid Surrey is owned by veterinarian Heather Lucas and we’re both super excited to connect with more local dog businesses and guardians in 2025….go give us a follow 😉

And finally, I’m delighted to once again be collaborating with the awesome next year when Kaitlin returns to open our sixth training school in Teddington 🐶🐾🎉

So folks….that’s a wrap 😅 Wishing ya’ll a peaceful and happy holiday period and we’ll be back in 2025 with more doggy support, fun and joy 🐶🐾🥰

🎉 NEW for 2025! We will be opening our 6th training venue in beautiful Teddington, TW11 🎉

💁🏼‍♀️I’m also thrilled to be welcoming back my wing gal Kaitlin who will be running these classes on Saturday lunchtimes (whilst I’m teaching over in Walton 😅). Kaitlin took some time out over the past year to set her own classes up in Notting Hill which are proving hugely popular and I’m delighted to be collaborating with her once more 🐶🐾🙌🏻

Our Teddington classes start on Saturday 25th January at 13:30 and bookings are NOW OPEN! ‼️‼️

💜💫 Super proud of Albert who has successfully passed his visiting therapy dog award 💜💫

I’m especially proud of him for achieving this in spite of all his medical issues earlier this year which meant we had to press the pause button on his training until he was fully recovered. We picked things back up when he got the all clear in July and he nailed his in-person assessment just recently 💫

What qualities and skills was Albert assessed in? ⬇️

🐾 his general temperament and disposition
🐾 sensativity to noise, novel items, human interaction, dog disengagement
🐾 polite & calm greetings (no jumping-up)
🐾 intermediate obediance training (equivalent to the Silver Kennel Club Good Citizen Award)

I was also externally assessed as his handler to verify that we are a suitable working team and able to communicate with one another effectively and safely ✅

This was the last part of our therapy dog training journey together after a busy year for me starting formal assessments and training myself too - I feel it’s always super important to experience training from my client’s side and knowing how nerve wracking these assessments can be means I’ve 100% got my clients’ backs when we’re working through the same process with your own dogs 🐕‍🦺🐾 It also means I know just how rewarding an experience training your dog for therapy dog work can be ☺️

🙌🏻 Huge congrats to our Cobham dog first aiders who certified yesterday and are now all CPD accredited for the next 3 years 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It’s so humbling to meet such kind and responsible people when we run our courses - everyone is there giving up their afternoon to learn how to save dogs lives and it’s so rewarding to know that we are sending more pairs of equipped dog first aid hands out into the world! 🌍

Advocating for our dogs is one of the biggest gifts we can give them, whether they are our own or ones in our professional care - so THANK YOU to everyone who attends our courses, you are all AWESOME ⭐️🤩💫

Have you ever wondered what the recipe for a great therapy dog is 😂 well here you go! Therapy Dogs come in all shapes and sizes and there is no such thing as the perfect ‘breed’ of therapy dog. If your dog has has these core characteristics and they may well make a wonderful Therapy Dog! Providing they want the job of course 😉💜🐾

I used to get excited about opening boxes from ASOS….now I get excited about opening boxes of freshly made to order dog training rosettes 🤣

How beautiful are they though? I can highly recommend Pam at Rainbow Rosettes for any other dog pros out there, she’s been producing my rosettes for me for over 7 years now and ALWAYS gets them out to me on time and in beautiful condition….💯

Cannot wait to present these to my last two Juniors groups of 2024 in November 💜🤍🖤 Walton is full but I have ONE SPACE LEFT on my Hampton course starting next Weds at 18:30….send me a DM for more details 🐾

Lady & the Hound is a canine care and coaching business based in Walton-on-Thames, in Surrey. We have three puppy class and dog training schools based in Richmond, Hampton and Walton and also offer private 1:1 training across inner Surrey (within the M25) and SW London.

We use only positive and reward based reinforcement training methods to help show you how to train your dog to become a happy and well balanced member of your family. We also offer advice and support on behavioural issues such as separation anxiety, toileting indoors, barking, jumping up, pulling on lead walks, aggression towards other dogs and people as well as other anti social behaviour.

Lady & the Hound is a small business with a big heart and was founded by Imogen Haley who lives with her 2 year old French Bulldog Albert and 6 year old puppy farm rescue dog, Rita. Our aim is to make training fun and to help show you ways in which you and your family can enjoy your dog and create many happy memories together.
