Saving Pound Dogs Cyprus - SPDC Saving Pound Dogs - Cyprus (SPDC) Dogs available for Adoption If unsuccessful, we try to find new homes to our furry friends, either in Cyprus or abroad.

Saving Pound Dogs - Cyprus [SPDC] is a group of volunteers trying to save dogs that have ended up in various local dog pounds. By working in co-operation with the local pounds, we try to identify the owners of lost dogs through various channels. What we do is to:
- engage in improving the life of a dog whilst in the pound
- work with the local vets to make sure that the pound dogs are treated, if

sick
- strive to keep the dogs healthy at all times
- search for foster homes or, even better, forever homes
- organize fundraisers etc. in order to try to raise funds and support in the local community.

NAME: TUX (aka Mr. Tuxedo)
S*X: Male
SIZE: Medium (24kg / 57cm to shoulder)
DoB: January 2023
BREED: Hound cross
LOCATION: Nicosia sanctuary

The fabulous Mr. Tuxedo is one of 10 dogs that we rescued from one of the biggest municipal pounds at the beginning of November. At the pound he was in one of the communal pens with a number of other dogs. He was being a bit bullied by some of the other dogs so is cautious initially with new dogs.

This gorgeous, big eared boy charmed us from the very beginning. He is an extremely well-mannered, gentle natured young dog. He gets on with other dogs, wags his tail non-stop at humans, takes treats gently and walks well on a lead.

Tux is only around 2 years old, but he has the calm energy of an older dog. He’s playful and super friendly, but he isn’t bouncy or over-enthusiastic. I’m sure that you can tell how much we love this boy!

We believe that Tux would be a good fit to any family and will be a really lovely companion and loyal friend.

NAME: EVIE
S*X: Female
SIZE: Medium when fully grown
DOB: February 2024 (estimated)
BREED: Mixed breed
LOCATION: Nicosia sanctuary

When we were asked by the head of a municipality to help them with a stray puppy they found we were full to bursting. But little Evie was just a puppy and unvaccinated would not have lasted long in a council pound. We managed to move some dogs around and squeezed her in.

Evie has been at the Sanctuary for over 6 months and has started to grow into an amazing girl. She’s friendly, playful and has a really sweet, gentle nature.

Evie loves playing with other dogs at the Sanctuary and her current playmate is Stanton, a Golden Retriever who is partially sighted. The fact that she plays with him every day shows the gentle nature she has and with careful introductions, we expect she could join a home with a resident dog or two.

She’s an active dog and would make the perfect companion for a family who likes exploring and wants a dog to explore the world with them. We think she could even make a good candidate for agility! She’s extremely clever and food motivated which we expect will help with her training.

Evie loves toys and will happily play fetch with visitors at the Sanctuary. She’s a bright girl and also very loving. One minute she will be playing fetch and the next will be on your lap getting lots of cuddles.

She is a delightful dog and will make her adopters very happy!

💙💙 Blue Monday 💙💙

Today is apparently the most depressing day of the year and we need your help to find forever homes for two of our favourite dogs at the Sanctuary, Evie and Ollie. These two beautiful dogs have both been reserved and had their potential adopters change their minds due to their own personal circumstances.

There’s genuinely nothing worse than when a dog is reserved, and then they are available again. 😢 Especially when they are black dogs, who sadly often get overlooked.

Ollie was saved from a remote location where lots of dogs accumulated with little access to food or water. Even living in these conditions, it didn’t stop him from being the most gentle boy. Whenever we get visitors at the Sanctuary, they genuinely can’t believe Ollie is still waiting for his forever family. He’s dog tested, cat tested and child tested (all of which he passed with flying colours). Honestly, he’s so beautiful - inside and out.

Evie was only a puppy when she came to the Sanctuary, and now she’s fully grown, overlooked time and time again. We just don't understand why. It makes us sad to think about how much joy she could bring to her forever home - she loves people, loves to play and is a big fan of other dogs.

So please share to let everyone know about Evie and Ollie so that the next time they are reserved, it’s the real deal, and we will have no need to feel blue anymore. 🤞💙

NAME: BOBBIE
S*X: Female
SIZE: Medium
DoB: July 2023 (22.6kg / 70cm to shoulder)
BREED: German pointer
LOCATION: Nicosia sanctuary

Everyone who sees Bobbie literally gasps at how gorgeous she is! She is one of 10 dogs that we rescued from an overcrowded municipal pound at the beginning of November. She was in a pen with a number of other dogs and although there was no fighting, it was obviously quite overwhelming for her.

When we brought her to the sanctuary and she had her own big kennel and a large yard to run around in, the transformation was almost immediate! Even her coat seemed shinier.

Bobbie is the wiggliest waggliest girl! Her whole body moves with her happy waggy tail. She is a typical German Pointer; smart, active, affectionate and funny. She will need an active home, prepared to exercise her both physically and mentally. She'll enjoy enrichment games and nice long walks. Some working breed knowledge or experience is preferable.

Bobbie is always in motion when we let her out into the yard at the sanctuary, running, playing, sniffing… She’s definitely an active girl, but our German Pointer adopters also claim that they are very good at relaxing and snoozing when they're at home, as long as they've had their exercise 😊

It's likely that Bobbie has a high prey drive, so a home with cats or rabbits isn't advisable.

Bobbie is a really lovely young dog that we think will adjust well in the right home. From what we've seen she could definitely join a home with another resident dog.

💙💙 REX IS RESERVED 💙💙

Name: Rex
Size: Medium
Age: Approx 3 years old
S*x: Male
Breed: Mixed Breed
Location: Rotherham, UK

Sadly due to a change in his owners circumstances, Rex has been surrendered back into the care of SPDC. He’s had a
bit of a tough start in life, being a street dog in Cyprus and then spending over a year in the Limassol Pound. He flew to a foster home but sadly did not get on well with the resident dog and after his recent surrender, he is in kennels, waiting for his forever home.

We have no doubt when you meet Rex that he will greet you with a smile and a waggy tail! He loves people, affection and fuss. Being SO friendly he can become frustrated when he’s not allowed to say hello to new friends straight away and he can bark. He’s been working on this by sitting when his walker sees another dog approaching which is helping.

He is a big fan of playing and really loves toys so would love a home who would be happy to play tug of war with him. Given that he’s not previously had much, he does have the tendency to guard so will need an experienced home to work through this with him.

Rex has spent the majority of his life in a kennels so it will take him time to adapt to living in a home which is so alien to him. He will need time to decompress and a family that is able to give him that space to adapt to the change as sometimes he can become over excited.

He is crate trained and is happy to sleep in a crate overnight or to relax during the day. We would recommend any future adopters ensure they have a crate for Rex as it’s his safe space.

Rex does love other dogs and is very playful and excited, although sometimes he forgets his size. Being in the pound for so long, Rex never really got a chance to learn to socialise, so he is still learning boundaries and appropriate play styles. We think Rex would be more suitable as the only pet in the home.

Rex knows some basic commands and is also doing well at walking on harness and lead. He is food motivated which will definitely help with his training.

An ideal home for Rex would be an experienced owner who see’s his potential and are willing to continue his training. With lots of guidance, patience and love, we have no doubt he will blossom into an amazing family dog! So what are you waiting for? If you think you could help, please get in touch.

If you are interested in Rex and becoming his forever family, please email [email protected] or contact us via our page (Saving Pound Dogs Cyprus - SPDC).

NAME: DANTE
S*X: Male
SIZE: Medium (57cm to shoulder)
DoB: November 2022
BREED: Mixed breed
LOCATION: Nicosia sanctuary

Dante has a lot of fans! Basically everyone that meets this gorgeous boy falls in love with him because he is so sweet and loving!

Dante was rescued from an overcrowded municipal pound at the beginning of November 2024. Choosing which dogs to rescue from the pound is an impossible and sad task but once Dante worked his charms on us and we couldn’t leave him behind.

Although not a large dog by any means, Dante isn’t what you would consider a “lapdog”… Dante does not agree! If you sit down to give this boy a cuddle, be prepared for some proper cuddles! Dante will try to climb onto your lap with all 4 paws and he really snuggles. It’s just the best thing and one of the reasons why everyone adores this soppy boy!

When we took Dante to the vet, he charmed everyone there… receptionists, nurses and the vet’s husband who said that he would adopt him on the spot of he didn’t already have a little SPDC rescue at home! Basically, Dante comes highly recommended!

Also whilst at the vets, Dante met the resident cats and did his best to ignore them. If anything he was a little wary, but he certainly gave the impression of a dog that could learn to live with cats…. Another feather in his cap 😊

Like most of our pound rescues, we can tell that Dante hasn’t always seen the best side of human nature. He is quick to cower if he thinks you’re raising an arm and he exhibits some signs of having been mistreated. But this has done nothing to stop him from loving people. He’s ready to give a cuddle to everyone that he meets.

We think that Dante will make his humans very happy and we can’t wait to see him settled in a loving home.
