Saving Pound Dogs Cyprus - SPDC Saving Pound Dogs - Cyprus (SPDC) Dogs available for Adoption If unsuccessful, we try to find new homes to our furry friends, either in Cyprus or abroad.
(28)

Saving Pound Dogs - Cyprus [SPDC] is a group of volunteers trying to save dogs that have ended up in various local dog pounds. By working in co-operation with the local pounds, we try to identify the owners of lost dogs through various channels. What we do is to:
- engage in improving the life of a dog whilst in the pound
- work with the local vets to make sure that the pound dogs are treated, if

sick
- strive to keep the dogs healthy at all times
- search for foster homes or, even better, forever homes
- organize fundraisers etc. in order to try to raise funds and support in the local community.

🐾🐾 FEATURE FRIDAY - REX 🐾🐾

Hello everyone! You may have seen my face before - I have a handsome face (or so I’ve been told) so you will definitely remember me!

I thought I had recently found my forever home but sadly my owners had a change of circumstances meaning I’m now back at the kennels in Rotherham. I don’t mind it too much as the people here are lovely and I love going on walks with the volunteers…

The only issue is, I got to spend time in a home, had a bed of my own and a family that was mine and I miss that. I miss having a family who could give me lots of fuss and who I could work on my training with. 😢

I really love toys, especially the long rope ones. So we can definitely play tug once I’m settled and I promise, I will let you win sometimes. I haven’t had much in life so I may struggle to share my things so I need a home to help me work on that. The Charity have said the lovely behaviorist is happy to have a call with my future forever home to give them tips on how we can work on me being the BEST boy that we all know I can be!

Although other dogs are really fun, I’m still working on my social skills on how best to meet them so I would prefer a home where I was the only dog so we could spend our lives together 🥰

I think I’m better off not living with children as I can be a bit bouncy and they may not like that but I promise I’m working on that. Sometimes the world is just so exciting!

One last thing to remember! I LOVE people, you guys are just the best and what makes you even better is where you have those tasty snacks that you give me - DELICIOUS. 👅 the volunteers say I’m one of their favourite to walk and I don’t blame them!

P.S. PLEASE let this be my last home - I don’t want to have to move again 🤞🏼

If you want to hear how you can adopt me, email [email protected] or contact the team via our page (Saving Pound Dogs Cyprus - SPDC) to get in touch if you are interested in any of our special dogs as comments can get missed.

BREED: Mixed breed
LOCATION: Nicosia sanctuary

We've been looking forward to promoting this gorgeous litter of puppies... one step closer to their happily ever after!

Ruby is one of 7 puppies found by accident by Constantina's son. They had been dumped in a field near the sanctuary in 40+ degree heat and doomed to certain death! Andreas was searching for a lost cat with a drone when he spotted the poor little things. Only around 4-5 weeks old!

Once they were over the shock of their terrible start in life, we could see that they were going to be a lovely bunch!

Usually with litters there is one that's shyer, one that's more playful, one more loving... But this litter are all happy, playful, friendly and gorgeous! It's genuinely difficult to single them out!

Ruby is just gorgeous! She has classic black and tan markings and the loveliest big ears! She’s a friendly, happy, confident young pup!

Dexter’s colouring stands out from the rest of the pups. He is shades of soft brown and he has the most gorgeous brown eyes! Dexter’s looks and colouring make us think that the puppies might have a bit of GSD in their mix but he also has the big hound ears. Dexter is often the first to climb onto our laps for a cuddle. He’s a really sweet puppy!

Name: Rex
Size: Medium
Age: Approx 3 years old
S*x: Male
Breed: Mixed Breed
Location: Rotherham, UK

Sadly due to a change in his owners circumstances, Rex has been surrendered back into the care of SPDC. He’s had a
bit of a tough start in life, being a street dog in Cyprus and then spending over a year in the Limassol Pound. He flew to a foster home but sadly did not get on well with the resident dog and after his recent surrender, he is in kennels, waiting for his forever home.

We have no doubt when you meet Rex that he will greet you with a smile and a waggy tail! He loves people, affection and fuss. Being SO friendly he can become frustrated when he’s not allowed to say hello to new friends straight away and he can bark. He’s been working on this by sitting when his walker sees another dog approaching which is helping.

He is a big fan of playing and really loves toys so would love a home who would be happy to play tug of war with him. Given that he’s not previously had much, he does have the tendency to guard so will need an experienced home to work through this with him.

Rex has spent the majority of his life in a kennels so it will take him time to adapt to living in a home which is so alien to him. He will need time to decompress and a family that is able to give him that space to adapt to the change as sometimes he can become over excited.

He is crate trained and is happy to sleep in a crate overnight or to relax during the day. We would recommend any future adopters ensure they have a crate for Rex as it’s his safe space.

Rex does love other dogs and is very playful and excited, although sometimes he forgets his size. Being in the pound for so long, Rex never really got a chance to learn to socialise, so he is still learning boundaries and appropriate play styles. We think Rex would be more suitable as the only pet in the home.

Rex knows some basic commands and is also doing well at walking on harness and lead. He is food motivated which will definitely help with his training.

An ideal home for Rex would be an experienced owner who see’s his potential and are willing to continue his training. With lots of guidance, patience and love, we have no doubt he will blossom into an amazing family dog! So what are you waiting for? If you think you could help, please get in touch.

If you are interested in Rex and becoming his forever family, please email [email protected] or contact us via our page (Saving Pound Dogs Cyprus - SPDC).

Constantina and Katy say they'll never forget the way that Steve looked when they rescued him from the pound. It wasn't just that he was so terribly emaciated, it was that he looked so defeated and broken 💔

A couple of weeks at the sanctuary later and this beautiful English Pointer had put on weight, started to wag his tail and was standing that little bit taller.

He continued to improve and gain confidence, but we could see that his spirit wouldn't fully recover until he was in a home. Once again we sought the help of a foster home that has offered salvation to so many of our rescues over the years.

Almost as soon as he arrived in his foster home we were amazed. Steve relaxed! He slept, he explored the garden, he wagged his tail, he slept some more... It was beautiful to see!

Steve has been allowed to take everything at his own pace and this was absolutely crucial. He was very happy in his new environment and loved the company of the other dogs and humans in his foster home, but he didn’t want to go out into the big bad world. That was just fine! He had a garden that he ran around and explored and he was safe and happy.

Now, after 3 months in his foster home, Steve is able to enjoy a visit to the enclosed field with his friends and the videos of him bounding around with his tail wagging, enjoying all the smells made us all tear up with joy! He’s also managed a little walk down the lane.

Steve is still happiest in the house and garden and he loves his humans and loves his doggy foster siblings. No doubt when he moves to his forever home he will need a period of adjustment but once settled he will continue to grow in confidence and to enjoy life!

Steve would definitely prefer a home with another resident dog or dogs and he is fine with cats as well. If you would like more information about him, his foster family will be more than happy to talk to you and arrange a meeting.

NAME: JAMIE

SIZE: Medium
DOB: May 2021 (estimated)
BREED: Mixed breed
LOCATION: Foster Home in Hampshire

Ridiculously handsome Jamie has been in his foster home for a couple of months and is ready to find his forever home. He is a very clever boy! You only need to spend a bit of time with him to see that and to see that he’ll respond well to training. He knows sit, wait and is working on other tricks. He is also house trained 🤓

Jamie is extremely friendly and loves cuddle time as much as he does play time. His foster family say he is an excellent cuddler and is a little soppy - the best kind of dog.

He likes to play with other dogs and enjoys hanging out at the secure field with his dog friends. He’s walks to heel with a slack lead but the world can be extremely exciting and sometimes he can fixate on other dogs. He can be a strong boy so he’s looking for an owner who can hold on tight. 💪🏻

He is also happy to be left on his own for periods of time and his foster family will often find him laying on the sofa patiently waiting for them.

Jamie has been waiting for his forever home for over a year now and this handsome chap needs a forever family to call his own. If you think you can offer him that and want to know more, get in touch. 📧

When we were asked by the head of a municipality to help them with a stray puppy they found we were full to bursting. But little Evie was just a puppy and unvaccinated would not have lasted long in a council pound. We managed to move some dogs around and squeezed her in.

Evie is the loveliest little pup and we’re so happy that we were able to help her. She’s friendly, playful and has a really sweet, gentle nature.

We’re really not sure of Evie’s breed mix but she may well have some mini-Pinscher in the mix. Her colouring and build certainly seem to suggest as much. We are guessing that she won’t grow that much more and will stay as a medium sized dog.

Evie is a bright little dog. She’s curious and playful and very loving. She’s an active little girl, but when she’s in her kennel she is often sitting calmly watching the world go by. She certainly isn’t bouncing off the walls.

Evie’s really a delightful little dog and will make her adopters very happy!

Millie was found abandoned in an industrial estate. She was accompanied by another 2 puppies and an adult dog. Luckily the foursome were picked up and brought to us by the municipality.

Although we're not sure whether the 4 dogs are related, it's clear that Millie and little Mischa are sisters. They look very similar, though Millie is a little taller.

Both puppies are friendly, playful, bouncy and fun! Millie loves water and jumping in and out of the paddling pool. She puts her whole face under water 💦 She's very happy running around and playing with toys or playing chase with her sister.

Millie is an active, playful puppy. She's got a really sweet nature and is great fun! This sweet puppy will be a wonderful addition to any family!

S*X: Male
SIZE: Large
AGE: 3-4 years (estimated)
BREED: Rottweiler cross
LOCATION: Nicosia Sanctuary

We rescued Zorro from the hellish conditions of a village pound on May 31st. He charmed us from the second we met him.

We strongly believe that this gorgeous, gentle dog must have once lived in a home. He gets excited when he sees a lead and walks well on it, without pulling. When we rescued him from the pound he trotted happily to the car and jumped in. He rode to the sanctuary looking out of the window and seemed so at ease.

Zorro tries his absolute best to keep his kennel clean which makes us think that he was once house trained. We make sure to let him out into the yard as often as possible so that he can keep us his good habits. Being caged up 24/7 at the pound must have been hell for him.

From what we've seen so far, Zorro is friendly and respectful towards other dogs. Further dog tests are needed, but we believe that he could join a home with another resident dog.

Zorro is a large dog, but he is so well behaved that his size is not an issue. He sits for treats without being asked, doesn't jump up unless encouraged during play, and is generally calm, sweet and gentle.

Can you tell that we're quite big fans of this gorgeous boy!

This puppy is the sweetest, most cheerful, gentlest girl! We just adore her 😊

Tara was picked up as a stray by a municipality who asked us to take her in. Although bursting at the seams we didn’t like the thought of a puppy ending up in a municipal pound and we agreed to make space for her.

She has settled in very quickly at the sanctuary. She loves people and seems to really love other dogs as well. When she’s out into the yard she goes from kennel to kennel trying to make friends with all of the other dogs, wagging enthusiastically all the time!

Tara has met visitors at the sanctuary, including children, and she loved everyone. They also loved her – she’s affectionate, calm and very sociable.

Although she’s definitely a Heinz57 breed-wise, she has the colouring, coat and tail of a shepherd cross. She certainly has the intelligence and steadiness of a GSD. She really is a very lovely dog!

Tara is still a puppy and will adapt quickly to a new environment. Hopefully she won’t have to wait too long to start her new, better life in a loving home!

SIZE: Small/Medium
DOB: 08.05.2019 (estimated)
BREED: Pocket Pointer
LOCATION: Foster Home in Limassol

Pocket Pointer Zelda has been in her foster home in Limassol for over a year and has improved so much, given how nervous and scared she was. We think she’s likely to have seen the not so nice side of humans which has caused her to be wary but with patience, a lot of love and treats, her foster family have won her over and we know she is ready for the next steps. She is
now looking for a patient and kind forever or foster home in the UK.

Zelda is smaller than you think, she’s only 40cm tall and weighs around 13kg. She has spent time with other dogs and puppies at her foster home and gets on really well with them. A resident dog would be amazing for Zelda to help her continue to build her confidence and preferable but is not necessarily a must.

Her ideal home would be a home who has the time to build a relationship with her and show her the wonderful side of human kind. She also finds joy in running around in the garden so a garden is a must for this little pocket rocket. She loves a zoomie or two!

Zelda has transformed from a dog who would cower and hide in the puppy pen to approaching her foster mum and asking for a massage and lots of love. If you met her a year ago, you would not believe it was the same dog. We think if someone is able to put the time and effort into Zelda that she will bloom into the lovable, confident dog, we know she can be.

Like any of our dogs, she will need to be trained the basics such as toilet training and shown how to walk on lead. Given Zelda is highly food motivated, we think this will definitely help.

If you are interested in Zelda, please get in touch. SPDC can offer support every step of the way to any special family who are ready to support Zelda with her ever growing confidence.

We've been looking forward to promoting this gorgeous litter of puppies... one step closer to their happily ever after!

Waffle is one of 7 puppies found by accident by Constantina's son.

Waffle had one blue eye and one brown eye when he was little. No his blue eye just has a fleck of blue in it which is very cute! He is gorgeous and funny and very friendly!

Odin has white socks, and his eyes were blue when he was little. He still has the socks, but he now just has flecks of blue in his eyes. He's beautiful!
